Elena's POV
My eyes fluttered open, trying to sit up and a sharp pain shot through my head. I tried to remember what happened before I went in unconscious. Just as the memory flooded in, the very reason for my fall, walked into the room - Leila.
Her face was calm as ever, and anyone who only met her now would think she was not a monster. She sat on the empty chair beside the bed, crossing her legs before speaking.
“What were you two talking about?” she asked, making me frown. This annoyed her and for a minute, the calm on her face disappeared. “Don't act silly with me. I pushed you earlier but I can do worse. Now, what did he speak to you about?”
“We were not discussing anything” I said. If she wanted the information, she should get it directly from him. I was still hurt by his words and I could not say it before her.
Leila stood as she began “Well..” she continued, slowly moving around the room with a grin on her face.
“At least you've lost the child, there's no connection between you both that can make you hope on for the relationship to work” she said
My heart sank, my eyes widening as I subconsciously moved my hands to my stomach. I didn't want to believe what she just said was true. A tear tried to escape my eyelids but I tried to hold it back. Leila stared at me with a satisfied smirk, seeing my expression.
“You are lying to me. My child is-”
“Get off your lazy back and start working. There is a lot you need to do” she said, leaving the room.
My gaze remained on the door after Leila left. My child was only two weeks old and they killed it. They thought they had won. Leila thought she had brought me down but I won't let her see me cry anymore. I would be strong for my child.

The mansion bustled with people moving in and out of the event hall. It has been two days since I lost my child. Alpha North did not come to me once but he allowed Leila subject me to all kinds of torture at the slightest provocation. Yesterday, I was whipped because I overslept from being stressed.
I could no longer cry as that was all I did and it only made them hurt me more. I walked into the kitchen and a made shoved a tray in my hands, almost spilling the wine on it. “Take that to Luna Leila in the hall” the maid said, squeezing her face in disgust at me.
Since my demotion to being a slave, that was all I got, disgust from those that claimed to have loved me. I glanced at the two glasses of wine on the tray and left for the hall. My body ached but who was I to complain?
Stepping into the grand hall, I couldn't help but notice the beautiful designs of the hall. It was filled with a soft ethereal glow, twinkling string lights and lanterns like the full moon hung from the ceiling. The walls were adorned with silver and blue drapes, while the tables were dressed in linens, glowing candles and crystals.
Leila and her friend, stood at the corner while they scrutinized what the other servants were doing. Reluctantly, I approached.
“Liela, is all this necessary? Don't you think you need to be a little low key since, you know” Liela's friend asked
“No, I need this. That way I can show everyone I was Luna despite Alpha North's...” Liela paused as she noticed my presence.
She sized me up and I bowed, not wanting to be punished once again. “Took you long enough” Leila said and picked the wine glasses, passing the other to her friend. She waved her hand quickly dismissing me.
Hours later, the hall was quickly filled with guests. This was the only time I was made to put on something other than sack clothes. A thought came to mind as I served and that was to run away. Everyone was busy. Leila loves the attention and Alpha North seemed to be entertaining his guests.
They would not be aware of my absence and if they did, I might be long gone. I felt stupid for not planning this earlier. I could not stay here. I needed to leave once the time was right. I was quick to serve the guests, my eyes casually glancing at the door every few minutes. It slowly became dark and I could use that to my advantage.
Once I saw an opportunity, I walked out of the hall, trying my best to go unnoticed. I ran into the maids room, grabbed my bag and shoved a few clothes in it. Once it was set, I went to the kitchen. I needed food if I was going to survive being out for days.
There were a few maids around and I tried my best to act calm as I pickes up a few trays of food. Once I was out of the kitchen, I rushed to my room and hid it behind the door before returning to the kitchen to get a flask to put it all in. My heart kept pounding in my chest but I felt this was my only opportunity to freedom and I had to take it.
Once I picked it up, a maid stared at me in confusion. “Luna Leila asked for it” I said and the maid rolled her eyes and looked away.
I swallowed and rushed out back to the room and filled it up with food. Once ready, I placed the bag over my shoulder and quickly began making my way out. “Slave!” a maid yelled.
I froze for a moment but the next minute, I took to my heels. I was not sure if they had caught on my act or not but I needed to leave before I was caught. “Hey!” I heard the maid yell.
“Guards! The slave is getting away!” she alerted them.
Fortunately, I was able to get to the parking lot. I took a left but then I spotted the guards coming in that direction. I didn't have to be told that they were after me. I took the other side but more were coming in that direction too. I tried to hide behind cars, quickly running but they were all over.
“Over there!” I heard one say and I ran, heading for the gates.
Looking over my shoulder to see how close they were, I
collided into someone and just before I fell to the ground. I heard a voice. “Mate”
Elian's pov. I completely forgot about Elena and my thoughts were replaced with the council of elders. I hastened my steps towards them because I had to know what could have given them such audacity to threaten me in such a manner. Especially in the presence of my guards. “You don't need to go in with me. Head back to your duty posts.” I turned to stop the guards who were behind me the moment I got to the door. They stopped to stare at each other, their lips slightly parted and their eyes filled with curiosity. “The elders are not threats from our external pack. So, you can be rest assured that I'll be fine.” I went on saying, my eyes darting from one guard to the other. I guess I was throwing an urgency that they needed to believe. One of them eventually let out a deep sigh, his shoulders slumping down in defeat. “You're supposed to have a guard with you. They each have their guards.” He protested. Then, I took a pause to reflect on his words. It was then I realized it had tak
Elena's pov.His question was absurd. It was the last thing I wanted to hear from anyone. Even him. Who was I? I didn't even know who I was to give a proper response to him. Everything felt like I was just a maid tossed from one pack to another. “Who exactly are you?” He asked again, his voice slipping freely until my head. My eyes couldn't leave him as much as I tried to. Those eyes, I was not blind to see that they held anxiety, and a kind of long lasting pain. I already knew his position in his pack. But just like him, I wanted to know who he truly was. Why did he make me feel the way I felt, like something was missing inside me?Whenever I was around him, I couldn't help but feel that void crying out inside of me. “Elena,” Again, he called back my attention from the whirlwind of deep thoughts. “I'm sorry alpha. But I'm completely lost on your sudden question. You already know my story. What else are you expecting to know about me?” I found the courage to ask. This time, avo
Elian’s pov.“Tell me the truth. Are you fucking her now?” Her words flew out of her lips. And it only made my head reel in disgust. I turned to take a proper look at her since she was behind me. The only look that could curl up my face seeing how she folded her hands with a deep frown was pure disdain. “You should take that back.” I growled, my fury drawing out for the first time in a long time with her. “Tell me why. Is it because you're scared of losing me?” She asked. “I am an alpha, Olivia. I don't bathe in the pool of filth.” I thundered, feeling my veins almost popping out of my neck. My eyes searched hers deeply, finding a sudden reason to get her to stop asking stupid questions and probably just leave. “If that is the case, why then did you have to save her? You could have just let her be dealt with. But no of course. You chose to humiliate me. So much for someone who doesn't swim in dirt.” She hissed and walked to sit right on the bed, behind me. The loud creaking that
Elena's POVI swallowed hard, the saliva suddenly burning my throat when the voices in my head played out who it could be with the authoritative voice that had caysee a choking silence. If it was him, was he out here to save me? Or, was he going to punish me even harder? Now, I had my heart beating faster in fear and fright. He had stopped them from hitting me but then, it didn't look like he had come out to save me."Babe, you're not supposed to be out here. The healer is still on her way." I recognized that voice to be that of Olivia.“I said to loosen her. Now." He ordered.I swallowed and waited patiently to see what was going to happen next. Eventually, I was released just like he had ordered. When I eventually stood to my feet, I staggered, almost falling to the ground. Luckily for me, someone from behind held me down and put me back up to my feet. When I looked behind me, I was even more surprised to see that it was Vera. How was she able to come out there?“Alpha Elian. I - I
Elena's POV"You."Alongside the words that escaped her lips, I watched her walk close towards me, her face sneered with a disdainful look and contempt not missing out. I swallowed hard, praying silently to the goddess that she wasn't going to decree a death sentence on me.Well, I should have known that the goddess had suddenly gone deaf to my request. Instead, I received a slicing slap to my cheeks, burning like hot coal that had been pressed against my bare flesh."What did you do to him? You planned to have him killed right? That was why you poisoned him." She went on saying, I fixed myself back up to look at her so I could defend myself even if I knew deep down that it was going to mean me experiencing something worse than a slap."No. I didn't poison him." I summoned the courage to speak, the tears from the sting of slap I had received, burning in my eyes."You can check the study. You won't find anything of that sort. He just slumped. I don't know what happened to him. Please b
Alpha North's POV I wasn't supposed to be surprised at the fact that Leila was not home yet. After all, she had suddenly taken it up as a habit. She would always leave the house all in the name of hanging out with friends. I didn't want to suspect that there was something going on. Neither did I want to think too hard about it because it was beginning to glare hard enough. Probably if she had been doing all these without missing out on her duties to her alpha, I wouldn't be bothered about it. After the maid servant had informed me of her whereabouts, I had to force the lunch through to my mouth, and to even digest properly. When I was done, I found my way to the study to clear the annoying thoughts off my head. I would have picked up my favorite book which was history. However, I was pushed to read something else. And that was when my eyes caught sight of a lone book sitting at the end of the shelf. First things first, I wondered why the book was separated from the others and plac
