CHAPTER 4: Scars and Temptations

last update Fecha de publicación: 2026-05-16 18:22:01

Jax's POV

I slammed the door behind me harder than I intended. The sound echoed through the hallway like a gunshot.

My blood was on fire. Every breath dragged Kai’s sweet, fruity scent deeper into my lungs. My rut surged violently, making my cock throb painfully against my zipper.

“Fuck.”

I dragged a hand down my face and stalked toward the back exit. I needed cold air before I did something stupid, like walk back in there and finish what that teasing omega had started.

The night wind hit me the second I stepped outside. It was sharp and crisp against my overheated skin. It helped a little, but not nearly enough. I could still taste him on the air. I could still feel the way his skin burned under my fingers and the way his breath hitched every time I brushed his nipple. My hands would not stop shaking.

I paced the clearing behind the house, trying to outrun the hunger clawing at my insides. It had been years since my rut hit this hard. And all it took was one injured omega with sea-glass eyes and a dangerous mouth.

My mind dragged me back to Eli before I could stop it.

That smile. The way he used to look at me like I was the only safe place in the world. I had let myself fall hard. I had started imagining a future I had no right to imagine, especially as an enigma who was meant to stand alone.

Then I discovered the truth.

He had been sent by Marcus, another enigma who wanted to destroy my territory from within. Every soft word, every night we spent tangled together, every “I love you” had been a calculated lie to uncover my weaknesses.

I caught it early. But early was not painless. By the time I dragged the truth out of him, I was already in love with a lie. The kind of love that leaves deep scars.

I stopped pacing and braced my hands against the rough bark of an old pine tree, breathing hard. Kai’s scent was still clinging to my shirt. I wanted to rip it off.

This was different, I told myself. Kai had run here on purpose. He came looking for the monster in the woods because he needed protection from Knox. But how long before someone else tried to use him against me? How long before those pretty eyes and soft voice became another weapon at my throat?

I was not doing this again.

Tomorrow, I would give him supplies and enough money to disappear. Then I would send him beyond my borders. Whatever happened to him after that was not my problem.

I had learned my lesson the hard way. No one got close. Not anymore.

Even as the thought settled in my chest, a quiet voice in the back of my mind whispered that I was lying to myself. Because the idea of him leaving tomorrow made something ugly and possessive twist inside me. Something dangerously close to want.

I growled low in my throat and headed for the outdoor shower stall at the side of the house.

I stripped quickly, stepped under the icy spray, and clenched my jaw as the water pounded against my shoulders. It helped with the fever, but it did nothing to dull the deep ache.

Kai was still in my bed. Waiting. Smelling like heaven, heat, and trouble.

And for the first time in a long time, I was not sure I was strong enough to send him away when morning came.

  • Desperate Omega Seduces the Cold Enigma for his protection   Chapter 8

KAI'S POV I woke up slowly, the kind of heavy, warm wakefulness that made my body feel like it belonged somewhere for once.Sunlight filtered through the heavy curtains of Jax's bedroom, casting soft patterns across the massive bed. His bed. The sheets smelled like him, that deep, earthy scent mixed with something sharper, like pine after rain.My heart gave a little flutter as I remembered how he'd carried me here last night. Then the flutter quickly turned into anxiety when I remembered Knox's attempt late last night to take me back. Well, I am safe. For now. But I intend to keep it that way for a very long time.I stretched under the covers, letting my bare skin press deeper into the fabric. No point wearing much today. I slipped out of the bed, went to his wardrobe and grabbed one of his oversized shirts that barely reached my thighs and a pair of soft shorts I'd found in a drawer. The shirt hung loose on my frame, but every movement made it shift against me in ways I knew would

Jax’s POVI stepped out of the bedroom and closed the door firmly behind me. The sound of the lock clicking into place was the only comfort I could give Kai right now.The hallway was dark, but I could smell them clearly. Six alphas in total. Knox’s stench was the strongest, reeking of arrogance and cheap victory.I walked into the living room like I was welcoming guests.Knox stood in the middle of the shattered glass, flanked by five of his strongest wolves. The moment they saw me, several of them took an instinctive step back. Good. They still had some survival instinct left.“You really are suicidal,” I said calmly, my voice low. “An alpha daring to break into an enigma’s territory. That is a death sentence. You know this.”Knox tried to smirk, but I could smell the fear rolling off him in waves. His eyes kept darting toward the hallway behind me.“I am not here to fight you, Wilder,” he said. “Just hand over the omega. He belongs to me. Our deal with the Lunar Reavers is binding.

Jax’s POVI lasted barely an hour.No matter how hard I tried to stay away, Kai’s desperate sounds kept pulling me back. His whimpers had grown weaker, more pained. My rut was still raging, but something deeper than lust pushed me toward the bedroom door.I opened it slowly. The wave of heat scent hit me hard. Kai was curled up on the bed, trembling, his skin flushed and covered in sweat. He looked exhausted and miserable. When he saw me, his glassy eyes filled with a mix of relief and shame.“You came back,” he whispered hoarsely.I stayed by the door, fighting every instinct that told me to move closer. “I brought more suppressants. Why are they not working?”Kai shook his head weakly. “They are not enough. My heat… it has never been this intense before.” He paused, breathing shakily. “I think it is because of you.”Those words hit me harder than they should have.I stepped inside and sat on the very edge of the bed, keeping as much distance as possible. Kai pushed himself up slowly

Jax's POV The cold water had helped, but only a little. My skin felt numb and the worst of the fever had faded, yet my rut still simmered just beneath the surface. I killed the shower, dragged my clothes back on, and told myself I was going straight to the guest room on the far side of the house.Far away from him.I had barely taken three steps inside when I heard it.A low, broken whimper drifted down the hallway. Then another, softer but longer, ending in a shaky moan that hit me straight in the gut. My body locked up. I stood frozen in the dark corridor, fists clenched, trying to convince myself I had not heard anything. It is not my business, I reminded myself. He survived five years with Knox. He can handle one night of heat. But the sounds kept coming. They grew louder and more desperate. Kai was panting now, small helpless gasps mixed with needy whines that made my cock twitch hard against my jeans. Even from this distance, his sweet fruity scent had thickened into something

  • Desperate Omega Seduces the Cold Enigma for his protection   CHAPTER 3: Playing With Fire

Jax’s POVHis heat was hitting hard. The sweet, fruity scent of his pheromones had completely flooded the room. He was trying to hold it back, but it was useless. That intoxicating smell tugged at something primal inside me and stirred my rut dangerously.I could not afford to lose control. Not now.I had spent years building my pheromone resistance. I refused to be undone by a doe-eyed omega.“Unbutton your shirt,” I ordered. He rolled his eyes in a seductive way and gave me a boyish grin. “Are you that eager to get me in your bed? It’s not that I mind though.”“No!” I almost shouted. “I just want to clean the rest of your body. But since you’re strong enough, to do it yourself.”I dropped the towel into the bowl and started to stand up.“No, no, no,” he said quickly, gently pulling me back down. “I was just joking.”The moment I sat back down, he undid his buttons and exposed his chest. His broad chest rose and fell in a slow, deliberate rhythm. As I cleaned the dried blood with the
