CHAPTER 4: Scars and Temptations

last update 게시일: 2026-05-16 18:22:01

Jax's POV

I slammed the door behind me harder than I intended. The sound echoed through the hallway like a gunshot.

My blood was on fire. Every breath dragged Kai’s sweet, fruity scent deeper into my lungs. My rut surged violently, making my cock throb painfully against my zipper.

“Fuck.”

I dragged a hand down my face and stalked toward the back exit. I needed cold air before I did something stupid, like walk back in there and finish what that teasing omega had started.

The night wind hit me the second I stepped outside. It was sharp and crisp against my overheated skin. It helped a little, but not nearly enough. I could still taste him on the air. I could still feel the way his skin burned under my fingers and the way his breath hitched every time I brushed his nipple. My hands would not stop shaking.

I paced the clearing behind the house, trying to outrun the hunger clawing at my insides. It had been years since my rut hit this hard. And all it took was one injured omega with sea-glass eyes and a dangerous mouth.

My mind dragged me back to Eli before I could stop it.

That smile. The way he used to look at me like I was the only safe place in the world. I had let myself fall hard. I had started imagining a future I had no right to imagine, especially as an enigma who was meant to stand alone.

Then I discovered the truth.

He had been sent by Marcus, another enigma who wanted to destroy my territory from within. Every soft word, every night we spent tangled together, every “I love you” had been a calculated lie to uncover my weaknesses.

I caught it early. But early was not painless. By the time I dragged the truth out of him, I was already in love with a lie. The kind of love that leaves deep scars.

I stopped pacing and braced my hands against the rough bark of an old pine tree, breathing hard. Kai’s scent was still clinging to my shirt. I wanted to rip it off.

This was different, I told myself. Kai had run here on purpose. He came looking for the monster in the woods because he needed protection from Knox. But how long before someone else tried to use him against me? How long before those pretty eyes and soft voice became another weapon at my throat?

I was not doing this again.

Tomorrow, I would give him supplies and enough money to disappear. Then I would send him beyond my borders. Whatever happened to him after that was not my problem.

I had learned my lesson the hard way. No one got close. Not anymore.

Even as the thought settled in my chest, a quiet voice in the back of my mind whispered that I was lying to myself. Because the idea of him leaving tomorrow made something ugly and possessive twist inside me. Something dangerously close to want.

I growled low in my throat and headed for the outdoor shower stall at the side of the house.

I stripped quickly, stepped under the icy spray, and clenched my jaw as the water pounded against my shoulders. It helped with the fever, but it did nothing to dull the deep ache.

Kai was still in my bed. Waiting. Smelling like heaven, heat, and trouble.

And for the first time in a long time, I was not sure I was strong enough to send him away when morning came.

  • Desperate Omega Seduces the Cold Enigma for his protection   Epilogue - Mated and Free

Jax's POV One full year had passed since our final confrontation in the northern wilderness. In that time, our humble mountain shelter had expanded significantly. What had initially begun as a rough, single-room log cabin with a basic roof had grown into something far more substantial: a proper home featuring two cozy bedrooms, a warm kitchen, and a broad wooden porch directly facing the mountain peaks. It was modest compared to the expansive territory I had left behind, but it possessed a quiet beauty because it was entirely ours. I stood on the front porch during the early hours of the morning, quietly watching the vibrant sunrise break over the snow-capped mountains. The lingering winter snow was steadily melting, and the very first green shoots of spring were stubbornly pushing through the damp earth. Soft, careful footsteps sounded on the wooden planks behind me. Kai appeared in the doorway, wrapped loosely in one of my oversized heavy coats. His rounded belly was full and he

  • Desperate Omega Seduces the Cold Enigma for his protection   Chapter 53: The Hunt

Selene's POV The northern mountains were utterly treacherous. Deep, blinding snow covered every inch of the landscape, while freezing wind howled continuously through the high mountain passes. The bitter cold seeped relentlessly through even the heaviest fur coats, numbing flesh and bone alike. However, I did not care about the brutal environment. I had been single-mindedly tracking Jax and his fragile omega for three long weeks. It had been three full weeks of following their faint trail through the frozen wilderness, sleeping directly in the snow, and surviving on whatever wild game I could manage to kill along the way. They had ventured deep into the heart of the mountains, far deeper than I had originally anticipated. It was a perilous journey that no rational person with an ounce of sense would ever attempt. Yet I possessed unyielding focus, and above all, I possessed infinite patience. I finally discovered their hidden hideout right at sunset. It was a secluded cave tucke

  • Desperate Omega Seduces the Cold Enigma for his protection   Chapter 52: The Betrayal

Jax's POV Three whole weeks passed following our encounter with Selene. It was three full weeks of blissful, unprecedented peace—three weeks of waking up every morning with Kai wrapped securely in my arms and believing with all my heart that the worst of our trials were finally behind us. Looking back, I should have known better than to lower my guard. It all began with a single message delivered without warning. A foreign scout arrived at the perimeter of my border, carrying a sealed letter marked with the distinct wax crest of Selene's pack. I broke the seal in the main room of our house while Kai stood close behind me, watching over my shoulder with an anxious expression. Jax, I write to inform you that the council has unexpectedly decided to revisit their previous ruling regarding the omega's legal status. New evidence has recently come to light, suggesting that the original betrothal claim was never properly dissolved under traditional pack law. I have tried my best to inte

Jax's POV We found Selene's sprawling camp situated right at the rocky base of the mountains. The settlement was vastly larger than I had anticipated, featuring dozens of neatly arranged tents, vigilant guards patrolling the outer perimeter, and a massive fire crackling in the central plaza. She had clearly been preparing her forces for something big. Dismounting quickly, I began walking directly toward the heart of the camp with Kai following close behind me. The guards spotted us almost immediately, raising their weapons in a clear stance of warning. "I am here to see Selene," I declared firmly. "Inform her that Jax Wilder has arrived." One of the perimeter guards turned and disappeared into the maze of tents while the remaining sentries kept their weapons trained on us. Kai moved closer to my side, his anxiety and fear palpable. Reaching back, I took his hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. "It is alright," I whispered softly. "I have got you." He offered a silent

Jax's POV The ride back to my territory dissolved into a haze of pain and exhaustion, leaving behind only disjointed memories: Kai's warm hands against my skin checking my wounds, the bite of the cold wind through my torn clothes, and the rhythmic stride of my horse beneath me. When we finally crossed the border into my land, my strength gave out and I nearly slipped from the saddle. Kai caught me before I hit the ground. "Jax," he said, his voice sharp with urgency. "Jax, stay with me." "I'm here," I managed, my voice reduced to a rasp. "I'm not going anywhere." He took my weight and half-carried me into the house, my entire body screaming in protest with every step. Once inside, he lowered me onto the couch and immediately set to work. Though his hands remained steady, the color had drained completely from his face. "You lost a lot of blood," he said. "I need to get you patched up." "Do what you have to do." He worked in silence, carefully cleaning and bandaging each

  • Desperate Omega Seduces the Cold Enigma for his protection   Chapter 49: This wasn't over

Kai's POV They dragged me into a temporary setup—a cluster of tents surrounding a central fire, manned by roughly thirty men. Knox stood in the middle of the camp, watching with a grin as I was hauled forward. "Welcome back," he said. I spat at his feet. He merely laughed. "Still feisty. Good. I like that." "Jax is going to find you," I told him. "He's going to find you and he's going to kill you." "Maybe." He closed the distance between us, grabbing my chin to force my gaze to meet his. "But not before I take everything from him. You see, Kai, this was never really about you. It was about breaking him, and you're the perfect tool." My blood ran cold. "What?" "Marcus is dead, Selene is gone, and the council has turned against me," he said, his smile sharpening. "I have nothing left to lose, so I'm going to take the one thing he loves most. You." "You're insane." "Maybe, but I'm not stupid. I know he'll come for you, and when he does, I'll be ready." He released my c

  • Desperate Omega Seduces the Cold Enigma for his protection   CHAPTER 5: How much an omega’s sweetness would cost me.

Jax's POV The cold water had helped, but only a little. My skin felt numb and the worst of the fever had faded, yet my rut still simmered just beneath the surface. I killed the shower, dragged my clothes back on, and told myself I was going straight to the guest room on the far side of the house.

Jax’s POVHis heat was hitting hard. The sweet, fruity scent of his pheromones had completely flooded the room. He was trying to hold it back, but it was useless. Kai’s POVThe moment I crashed into his massive chest, I knew I was safe. His thick, muscled arm locked around me instantly. The sheer weight of him was overwhelming. Jax POVI sensed the disturbance in the air a split second before I heard the sharp crack of a tree at the far right edge of the forest.'Someone is in my territory. Who dares? ... An omega?'I could smell him now. The metallic stench of blood hit me hard - he was bleeding profusely. What the hell
