Kevin’s POV
My legs swayed slightly as I walked unstably along the path. The slight buzzy sensation numbed the pain made the memories bleary. It didn’t hurt that much now.
I took another swig from the bottle in my hand; hissing slightly as the liquid burned my throat. My legs swayed and the trees around me started spinning round and round. I grasped a nearby branch in an attempt to regain balance but I fell anyway.
I wanted to get up and go to my house, to my pack but my legs felt like they weighed a ton. Before another thought could pass through my mind, I had fallen asleep on the muddy ground.
I was jolted awake by an ear-piercing scream. Rubbing my eyes, I sat up trying to get my bearings. The faint light of the sun had just kissed the earth and everything was bathed in a red hue.
F***! I had fallen asleep in the midst of a forest. Before I could berate myself further, my attention was drawn by a loud cry, “Help! Is somebod
KEVIN’S POV Slap! I staggered due to the impact as a blow landed on my face. Before I could recover from it I was pulled into a tight hug by my mother. “Where did you vanish without telling us? Do you have any idea how worried we were? You father deployed all the members of the pack to search for you but they couldn’t find you anywhere… we thought that….” her voice broke and then she burst into sobs. I stole a glance at my father expecting to meet his furious expression. I was startled when I saw only grief and worry in them. My heart twisted with guilt. I rejected Kiara to bring peace and happiness to my family yet all I did in the past six months was to cause them pain and sorrow. It was high time that I got my shit together. I couldn’t let my family suffer anymore because of me. I pulled away and wiped the tears running down my mother’s cheeks. Cupping her face, I looked into her eyes and said in a firm voice, “Thi
Kevin’s POV As I ventured into the forest I realized how far I had come that day, I must have walked at least twenty miles in my drunken state. I could have taken my car but I felt like I needed this walk to sort out my thoughts. Cami had agreed to marry me to keep the morale of the pack high but I couldn’t help but wonder if I was being unfair to her. I wondered what would happen if I ran into Kiara someday. Would she think less of my love because I married someone else… “Hey, buddy!” A familiar voice sounded drawing me out of my thoughts. My lips stretched into a smile automatically when I saw Adrian. The journey to the camp was a pleasant one. By the time we reached the camp, we both knew each other’s life history like the back of our hands. I found out that Adrian’s mate had rejected him at their first meeting. So, he decided to spend the rest of his life at the camp, helping others. Maybe i could follow his examp
Kiara’s POV My heart stopped beating when Kevin bit me. All those efforts, sacrifices; all that suffering was for nothing if I couldn’t even keep Kevin safe.I was about to give Kevin the antidote in panic. Thankfully Nivaan figured out that he was alright on time. I didn’t know what happened to make Kevin immune to my poison… Was it because he was bitten earlier… or was it something else… I was just glad that he was safe.I laced my fingers through his as we sat side by side on the plain bed of the tent. He brushed my cheeks with the back of his hand and said, “I want to know the truth, Kiara….”I raised my eyebrows slightly and said, “You have already marked me… why would you need my permission to know the truth… go ahead and seek it out…”His face flushed red and he lowered his eyes, “I don’t know what came over me… It
KEVIN’S POV My heart fluttered as I watched Kiara sleep. She looked so peaceful and calm; unlike the other times. Now that I knew the truth, I felt like crap that I hadn’t tried harder to find out the truth. How did I not see that my mate was in so much pain?“Kevin, Can we have a word?” Nivaan’s voice was bland as he beckoned me to follow outside. It was difficult to figure out if he was happy or angry by his tone.‘Let us do this.’ I encouraged myself mentally and followed him outside. I really hoped that he would at least give me a chance to prove that I could be a good mate.Clearing my throat, I said; “I know I failed big time, Nivaan… I shouldn’t have rejected her without investigating the matter. it might be difficult for you to forgive me. All I ask is that you give me a chance to prove myself. I don’t know what I would…”Nivaan burst out laugh
KEVIN’S POV The next day I visited the City Hospital with Collins and some of my men. We had arranged for fake documents to get the equipment. Once it was all loaded in the truck. I went to meet the doctor and lured him out.We shoved him into the large van, strapped him up, and drove to the packhouse. The journey home was a quiet one but a storm was brewing in my mind.I had never broken any law before but today… today I was kidnapping a doctor against his will.“Where the hell are you taking me?” The doctor stuttered between gasps, the moment we took off the tape from his mouth. My heart twisted with guilt looking at his pale expression. This was the man who had saved my mate’s life but I had no choice but to imprison him here.Blood trickling down his left wrist caught my attention. Collins must have gripped him a bit too tight.“I will take it from here,” I command
KIARA’S POV “Kiara, are you alright?” Adrian asked, as he sat beside me on a boulder.Keeping my gaze fixated on the blue water of the lake, I grunted in response. I didn’t really feel like talking to anyone.“There is still time you know… the unification ceremony will be held after the moon rises… Kevin asked me to give you this letter…” He said, thrusting a letter in my hand.My lips pursed into a thin line as I crumpled the paper and threw it into the lake. I just didn’t have the courage to have my heart broken again … I had accepted that Kevin and I were not meant to be together…Adrian exhaled deeply and said, “I don’t know why you decided let Kevin marry someone else but I do know how much it hurts to stay away from the one you love… if you love Kevin you should accept his proposal and crash the ceremony!”Damn! It wa
KIARA’S POV The look on Kevin’s face was priceless when I slapped him. I didn’t want to do this but this was the best way to draw everyone’s attention. Now, they would be forced to listen to me.‘Don’t speak a single word. Let me handle this.’ I had just mouthed these words when Cami pulled my hair and dragged me away from Kevin. She roared in an infuriated voice, “What do you think of yourself, Kiara? How dare you try to ruin my special day? I am the Luna of this pack. If you don’t leave immediately I will have you killed!”I grasped her hand and twisted it behind her back. I snorted and bit back, “Haven’t you learned that wishful thinking leads you nowhere? I was chosen by the moon goddess as Kevin’s mate. So the position of the Luna of this pack belongs to me.”“I can’t believe that you both are fighting like wild cats. Stop it
KEVIN’S POV I bit the inside of my cheek trying to stop the smile that was threatening to light up my face. I know I should be more sensitive but I had no control over what I was feeling. I felt as if I had gotten a new lease on life. The moment father left, I set out in search of Kiara. I bumped into her near the fountain. My breath caught in my throat as I looked at her.“You look so beautiful…,” I whispered placing a light kiss on her cheeks. Her eyes widened. She looked around warily and dragged me to the dungeon.“Not the most Romantic place, is it?” I said as she pulled me to sit beside her on the narrow table.“I know but I don’t want anyone to barge in on us while we are talking.”She halted for a moment. Her face flushed slightly and she chewed her lower lips before saying, “I am so sorry… I shouldn’t have slapped you…”
