Chapter Twenty-Three

Lisha POV

The four walls are starting to close in on me; it has been six months since I discovered Tyler was alive. The door creaks as it opens; taking no notice of who it is, I watch the flames flickering in the fire. Damian surprises me as he lowers his large frame into the armchair beside me. His husky voice vibrates against the silence of my room.

“Did you know you twirl your hair around your fingers when you're deep in thought, Lisha?”

Dropping my hand into my lap, I ignore him. He leans toward me as he whispers,

“You have been quiet, Lisha. Is it because you know I speak the truth about Tyler?”

I hiss,

“What the fuck do you want, Damian?”

Everything Damian has said is true. Tyler and I have crossed paths repeatably in the palace. There has been no recognition in his eyes where I am concerned.

Damian growls,

“What makes you think you can get away with speaking to me like that, Lisha?”

I look at Damian briefly for the first time since he entered my room and say,
