Strange Things

Author’s POV:

Ethan was sleeping soundly in the bed when Ella left the room. As soon as she left, a black shadow started getting visible in the mirror at the dresser staring at the silhouette of a man lying half-naked on the bed.

Soon, the bed started shaking disturbing Ethan’s sleep lightly but he still continued to sleep. After some time the movement started getting fast as Ethan felt himself moving while in the consciousness of his sleep.

After a while, suddenly someone pulled the sheet of the bed roughly from him, and then the bed started shaking violently. It’s like someone very powerful is venting the anger on Ethan.

Because of the violent shake, Ethan immediately opened his eyes and sat in panic just to find himself alone in the room. He looked around in panic and caught a glimpse of black shadow and started shouting in fear.

“Ahh…. Ahhh..” But the thing he didn’t know was his shouts were silent and nobody could hear him at all. He tried to run to the door but no matter what, his body didn’t move an inch no matter how much he struggle.

Suddenly, the bed stopped shaking and that shadow started coming out from the mirror. Ethan’s eyes widened in horror and just then the room door opened and Ella entered with a tray of food in her hand.

She smiled when she saw Ethan awake, Ethan sat completely frozen and tried to recall what happened just now. He turned to look at the mirror there was nothing there, he then tried to move and unexpectedly he moved a bit. “Ella..” He called her hoarsely while Ella was busy keeping the breakfast on the table.

She turned to him with a cup of coffee. “Here.” She stretched her hand and handed him the cup.

Ethan took it absentmindedly as he rubbed his sleepy eyes. Ella could sense his body getting tense as she asked in worry. “What’s wrong?”

Ethan sighed heavily as he told her the unusual thing happened to him just now. “Actually…. Just now the bed was shaking very heavily and that mirror.” He pointed at the mirror as Ella turned to see her reflection in it. “I saw someone there, like a shadow..”

Ella frowned and then she chuckled not taking his words seriously. “Ethan, I must have made you more tired that is why you are daydreaming.”

Ethan didn’t find it funny, he was hell scare at this moment. But he knows it’s of no use to unnecessarily stretch this topic and making Ella worried more. So he just simply pursed his lips and started drinking his coffee while his gaze kept going at the mirror to catch a glimpse of that same shadow again, but this time he didn’t see anything at all.

At last, he gave up the idea of something weird in this house and left the home while bidding goodbye to Ella. On his drive to his home, Ethan again saw a black shadow in his rearview mirror behind him. He suddenly pressed the brake in fear and his heart started pounding heavily as he took a deep breath and then turned to look at the backside.

But to his surprise, there was nothing. He again looked at the rearview mirror. Still nothing. He then again started the car and drove to his home.

After reaching his home, he greeted his parent and went straight to his room. He locked himself lost in his own thoughts and the fear rising up in his heart making him feel heavy.

Ella:

After the shower, I went down to prepare the breakfast while all my other friends were lying on the couch and some had fallen from it and are now on the floor. I grinned as I made my way to the kitchen.

After just 10 minutes, I was out with a tray of breakfast in my hand. Before walking into the room, I glanced at Oliver’s door and there was no sound at all. Seems like they are still sleeping.

I then make my way to my room and surprisingly Ethan was awake in the room, but he looked tense. I don’t know why? I asked him in worry and what he told me doesn’t make any sense at all.

I simply laughed at his words because I think he was trying to prank me but he didn’t say anything at all and his silence was really making me a bit restless.

He left and I stared at the back of his car for a long time until Oliver called me back at home. We both cleaned the whole mess, I cleaned the pool while Oliver was busy dumping the garbage last night was freaking hell for us but I enjoyed it.

It’s been a long time, I felt happy and relaxed all thanks to Oliver. I looked up at the back door of the house and there I saw Oliver walking towards me with a big plastic garbage bag.

“Here” He opened it wide as I dumped the garbage from the pool in it. My eyes then caught something weird as I asked surprised. “These bones…”

“Yeah, seems like last night again some animal came here. I think I need to keep a gun in the house in case.” Oliver said thoughtfully and I completely agreed to it, what if someday we encountered any wild animal in our house?

After cleaning the whole house, I felt too tired to cook so Oliver made the lunch and after lunch, we both went out in search of a gun. Oliver looks impulsive to me but still, I think his worry is justified. It would be good if we keep the gun at home for our safety, as soon as we can.
