Chapter 5

Evelyn reacted swiftly. She hurriedly ducked aside to avoid the hot coffee. However, the scalding hot coffee still splashed onto her leg. It hurt her so much that she gasped loudly in pain.

Just as she was about to demand answers from Clara, she looked up and saw the bitch throwing herself against the glass cabinet behind her.

On instinct, Evelyn reached out and grabbed her, but Clara shook her off.

Crash!

Clara's elbow crashed into the glass front, shattering it to pieces. The broken glass cut into her skin, making her bleed onto the ground.

Just then, Evelyn heard Warren's voice behind her.

"Evelyn Jefferson! What the fuck are you doing?"

Warren's towering figure appeared as he rushed over to Clara. His eyes were turning darker and darker. "Are you alright?"

Clara's face was streaked with tears. She sobbed as she said, "Warren, it's all my fault. I accidentally spilled coffee on Ms. Jefferson, and she thought I did it on purpose, so she pushed me. But don't blame her for this, please."

Evelyn widened her eyes in disbelief when she heard this. She never thought that Clara would hurt herself just so that she could pin the blame on her.

She immediately defended herself. "I did not push her. She fell by herself."

Warren's dark eyes swept over Evelyn's body. His gaze paused momentarily on the burn on the back of her thigh, but he averted it quickly after.

He growled, "I'll make you pay when I get back!" Then, he hurriedly brought Clara out of the pantry.

Evelyn watched as they left, her face contorted in inexplicable pain. This was the man she had loved for seven years.

Between her and Clara, he would never choose to believe her.

Evelyn recollected herself immediately. She wasn't going to let Clara get away with this!

Although she'd already broken up with Warren and couldn't care less about what he thought of her, Evelyn wasn't about to let anyone frame her for something she never did.

If she allowed it the first time, there would always be a second time.

She quickly got her colleague, Mandy Lambert, to ask her boyfriend in the IT department to make a copy of the pantry security footage for her.

She had to prove herself innocent!

After getting everything she needed, Evelyn withdrew herself from the incident and went back to work.

Warren and Charlie were not around. The board of directors was already waiting in the meeting room, so only she could conduct the meeting for now.

Evelyn made sure to take note of everything that was reported during the meeting. She also discussed the more urgent matters at hand that had happened during the week.

Everyone was obviously a lot more relaxed without Warren in the room. The people in the meeting only had high praises for Evelyn, telling her that she was extremely capable. Some of them even teased her for being a good match with Warren and asked her if she was going to be their boss someday.

Evelyn just smiled faintly at their teasing. "We don't have anything more than a professional relationship between us. Also, I've just—"

Resigned.

But before she could finish her sentence, the door to the meeting room was kicked open with a loud bang.

Warren stood at the door, still all dressed in black. He gave off a deadly and bone-chilling vibe, making it seem as if he was the devil who'd just made his appearance from hell.

His dark eyes looked piercingly at Evelyn.

The laid-back ambiance in the room immediately disappeared. Everyone in the room felt oppressed and suffocated as soon as Warren appeared. They all hurriedly got to their feet and greeted him.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Larkin!"

Warren didn't reply to them. Instead, he walked over to Evelyn with long strides and grabbed her wrist with his icy hands. His voice was cold and frightening as he roared, "Come with me!"

He then dragged Evelyn out of the meeting room.

He could see that the back of her legs were red and swollen. He just roared at her, "You stupid idiot! You're going to die of stupidity one day!"

Then, he bent down and carried Evelyn in his arms.

They reached the parking lot. He then dumped Evelyn into the front passenger seat and reached over to pull out a first-aid kit. He took out a new tube of burn cream, opened it up, and squeezed some onto his finger.

His lips were pressed into a thin line. His eyes were full of anger as he applied the cream gently to the back of Evelyn's thigh.

There was an indescribable look in his eyes.

He saw that Evelyn was gritting her teeth in pain. She frowned deeply, biting her lips so hard that they turned pale white. Her fingers were also all curled up by her side.

Warren used even less pressure on his fingers as he applied the cream to all the red patches on her leg. Then, he looked up at Evelyn with a deep look in his eyes.

Seemingly mockingly, he remarked, "You're so stupid. Are you sure you can survive without me?"

Then, he sat up and threw the tube of cream toward her. "Apply it to the burn twice a day. And don't get your wounds wet. Otherwise, if they leave scars, don't come to me crying about them."

Evelyn kept her eyes low. Her voice lacked emotion as she said, "Think I can't survive without you? Try me."

Warren looked at her stubborn expression and huffed angrily.

"Evelyn, it's fine if you want to throw a temper, but why did you drag Clara into this? Don't you know that she has depression? I've told you before that you don't have to worry about her. She's not your rival. Why won't you believe me?"

The slight bit of gratefulness Evelyn felt immediately dissipated. She glared at Warren with cold eyes. A smirk hung from her lips as she said, "Warren Larkin, let me make it clear once more. I did not lay a finger on her.

"She was the one who threw herself to the ground because she wanted to frame me. And if you don't believe me, you can check the security cameras."

Warren looked at her. "I'm not stupid. But Clara has clotting issues and Rh-negative blood. She's lost too much blood now, but the hospital doesn't have any blood in their bank.

"Give some of your blood to her. If you do, I promise that I won't let the Sullivans touch you. And I'll forget about this incident today."

If Evelyn's heart only felt like it was stabbed before, she felt it being completely ripped out of her chest and torn to shreds now.

It was so painful that she nearly forgot how to breathe.

Warren Larkin wanted her to donate her blood to Clara Sullivan. But she'd only just gone under the knife last week because of her miscarriage.

Also, because she'd lost too much blood during the surgery, she was considered anemic and was still taking medications supplemented by medicinal herbs to increase her blood supply.

Evelyn's dark eyes stared at Warren. There was a hint of stubbornness in her voice. "Warren Larkin, what if I told you I'm physically incapable of donating blood right now? What are you going to do, force me?"

Warren looked at her with cold eyes.

"There's nothing wrong with your body. Your health report says you're fine. And you're only donating 400 ml of blood. That's no big deal.

"Additionally, Clara is Johnny Sullivan's precious daughter. It doesn't matter whether you're directly involved in the incident or not. But if he decides to get revenge on your family, then there's absolutely nothing I can do about it!"

Evelyn laughed bitterly at herself.

Warren only knew that Clara was Johnny's precious daughter. Why didn't he stop to think that she was her own father's precious daughter as well?

When she lost so much blood during her miscarriage, Warren refused to even pick up her calls.

Meanwhile, Clara only had to get a scrape on her arm to get Warren's panties up in a bunch and even threaten her family.

She wished she never had to know how she compared to Clara.

Evelyn looked at Warren with a cold yet dead expression in her eyes.

"You say that losing 400 ml of blood is no big deal. But what about losing 2000 ml?"
