"No, no!" I said fervently. "You don't have to stress yourself by flying all the way."

"Something's always coming up, I'm sick of it," the voice protested.

"Just give me a few more days to sort myself out. Please don't ask what it is. Just be patient for me, please."

The voice begrudgingly agreed. "Call me immediately you have a change of heart. Don't even hesitate."

"I won't."

On cue, James entered the room as I was ending the call. His eyes curiously strayed to my phone but he did not ask. I sensed that he was in a hurry what with how he was bouncing on the balls of his feet. Of course. He couldn't wait to be reunited with Mona. I grunted with disappointment and disgust. I didn't even know why he bothered showing up here. He had nothing to prove to me, did he?

"I have to go baby shopping with Mona. Get yourself discharged and wait for me at home." Just like that, he was off once again without even waiting for a response.

I did not want to be immediately discharged however. I had a sense that James had changed all the locks at the villa and that the possibility of him trapping me inside was too high.

So as not to raise any premature suspicions on his part, I paid for the two days worth of hospital bills with his card. As far as he was concerned, I was already home. I knew he wasn't going to call to confirm.

I spent seven more days at the hospital. James never made it home even once during that period. On social media, I kept seeing videos and pictures of his romantic affair with Mona. He took her to the most romantic spots across the country and spoiled her rotten with his misdirected affection.

Finally, I made the decision to go home before my secret contact could make good on his resolve to come get me out of this hellhole himself. James had posted another picture with him and Mona on a beach at sunrise, passionately kissing.

I left a sarcastic comment on the picture wishing him a happy life with his mistress. I received quick replies from other profiles.

#aren't you his actual wife?

#wait, for real? The woman in the picture is not his wife???

#why is he doting on another woman?

My phone buzzed. It was James. I did not want to answer but my phone incessantly rang.

"Delete your comment," was the first thing he said to me after seven whole days.

"Why should I when I am truly happy for you?" I retorted.

"Since you want to continue to be childish, I am blocking you from all my social media platforms." He abruptly cut the call. It wasn't like I cared what he did with his social media. I checked myself out of the hospital with my own money.

Leaving, I passed the OBGYN department and spotted James doting on Mona. All the nurses were praising him for his masculine attentiveness. At least I knew now where James' priorities truly lay.

In our fifth year of marriage, I had gotten pregnant. James told me to abort it because he wasn't ready.

"It's alright James. We… we are married after all. I'll carry the pregnancy to term alone and even raise our baby alone for when you eventually come around. When our baby finally arrives, I'm sure you'll have a change of heart." I thought it was just his nerves. How very wrong I was!

"Are you deaf or do you no longer speak English? It's too early for us to have a child!"

"James, we've been married for five years."

"I don't care. I'll call the family doctor right now. He will take care of this."

I snatched the phone from him. "If you don't want the baby, I do. I've already told your father and he is excited. Maybe you should be the one to tell him you want an abortion and see what he says."

Darkness flashed in James' eyes. His sixty five year old father, Patrick Simmons, who oversaw the family business, was a conventional man who could disinherit James just for thinking about abortion. Feeling victorious, I turned my back to walk down the staircase. I had underestimated how vindictive James had gotten.

A hand— his hand, pushed me from behind. I lurched, losing my breath and balance as I fell.

I lost the baby. Patrick never truly forgave me for my carelessness on the stairs. He had no idea it was his own son's fault.

"Ronica!" Mona calling me with her fake sweetness brought me out of my reminisce. I watched James' face contort upon seeing me.

"Did you follow us?" he snapped.

I scoffed. "You are not that important."

"Wait," James said before I could turn on my heels and leave. A flicker of jealousy flashed through Mona's eyes, her grip on his arm tightened. She was a viper protecting her territory. I could sense the warning for me to back off in her eyes. "Since you are already here somehow, ride home with us. You claim I'm not that important but you got discharged seven days ago. What else would you be doing here if not following us?"

"I truly wasn't following you," I said with a firm voice of steel.

"Quit your petty lies already," James mocked me.

"Jimmy darling, I'm sure she can find her own way home," Mona suggested.

"It's a limousine Mona bunny. We will have the back to ourselves. She can wedge herself in the front with the driver and bodyguard."

All the way to the villa which I no longer considered home, cramped up in front of the spacious car, Mona would not stop moaning as she fucked my husband in the backseat. Only a black thin layer of curtain blocked them from view.

It was reaching a week since James Simmons lost his wife. Again. She was supposed to be in a coma so he had let his guard down. But that was Ronica for you. Atcking from behind like a simple coward. And somehow, she knew Eric Strauss. How? James could think of only one reason and it terrified him. He still remembered the last call he made with Ronica. She had switched phones with a random nurse and James had not expected to be sidetracked that way. But he had maintained his composure as she rattled on the line about forwarding another number. He couldn't help but laugh even as the laughter made him bitter."Well played Ronica.""I learned from the best, James."James could feel his face going purple and all he really wanted to do was hurl his phone against the wall. Instead, he ran shaky finger through his hair. "How can you run off like that when you're going to have our baby?""Stop it with your clown games with me. Go okay them with Mona.""I got you back once. Do you really think

"You are THE Eric Strauss???""Oh my God, he's so young.""It took him fifteen years to build his anaconda empire, gobbling whatever company stood in his way.""Oh Ronica, such good fortune that you are a dear friend of Eric Strauss. Let's keep in touch."Many people were dying to be acquainted with Eric. Like Danny's friend had said, a man like Eric was good for business. I somehow became the intermediary introducing him. Surprisingly, he was relaxed and chill while he chatted politely with my classmates who only understood the language of money and who were ready to bite my head off thirty minutes ago when they thought I was a liar. The tide had turned because I knew Eric Strauss, everybody wanted to be my friend and keep in touch with me.The rave over meeting the elusive Eric Strauss in person was stronger than the repercussions for James and Mona who were completely forgotten until a later date. Pulling myself away from my surrounded date, I managed to reach the bar to get my muc

"A hundred and one million? Is he for real?"The hall bustled with hushed voices for a moment. The plot was undoubtedly getting thicker as everyone seemed to be waiting with bated breaths for James' reply. James remained uncharacteristically silent while Eric smirked."To summarize, a hundred million dollars is what the Saja sapphires are currently valued at. For the inconvenience of having to take them from whom I have gifted them to in order to sell it to you so you can gift them to your secretary, I am charging one million. A paltry sum. This way, your secretary may be a hundred million worth but Ronny will always be a million dollars worthier.""What are you rambling on about?" Mona shouted. "At the end of the day, they're just stones. No sane man would spend that much money on the Saja sapphires, talk less of fake ones.""Stay out of this," Eric snapped at Mona, his voice carrying a severe undertone of threat. She'd better listen to him. After all, her cup of atrocities was runni

"As a matter of fact, I do own the place," Eric said smugly."That can't be possible," snapped Clara haughtily as she lifted her nose pompously. "I know the man who owns this place. It was with his connection I used to rent this hall to host our reunion.""Well, if you call your connection now you will learn that the place including this very hall has changed hands around—" Eric lazily glanced at his watch. "Ah, thirty minutes ago.""I will take you up on that offer," Clara said bringing out her phone. "And when I am done, you'd better scurry out as fast as you can."Eric laughed and somehow, the whole place seemed to brighten from his sudden smile. His eyes twinkled as he adjusted his tie. "Sure thing Clara Nightwood. But if I'm right, you'll be the one scurrying instead. Do you take me up on my offer?"The haughty and vain Clara Knightwood had always been good at deciphering pricetags. Knowing her dignity was on the line, her eyes scrutinized Eric. From the expensive perm of his coi

With masterful and villainous pretence, Mona had succeeded in turning the tides. She had made me what she painted me out to be. A rude spoilt jealous housewife."We all know Mona is just a secretary but she wasn't as privileged as us so you need to stop making her feel bad about it," Denise, who was the mistress of looking down on less fortunate people, chastised."Did you do all these because you were jealous Mona is such a good friend to James? James is already your husband, what else do you want?""Buying fake Sapphires just to embarrass James. If you wanted them so bad, all you had to do was ask. Ugh.""If you are capable of doing this that means it's true then that you are stopping James from inheriting the family business from his father.""That means it's also true that you never wanted to come to the reunion. You only came because James asked Mona after you turned him down."The wrongful slander overwhelmed me so much that I felt the back of my eyes burn with unshed tears. Add

The hall was silent as the gravity of my accusation sank in."Ronica Risconce or Simmons or whatever you call yourself now, what are you doing here?" Sandra, who worked directly with the UN asked. "Mona said you didn't want to come and that's why James asked her to be his plus one. James said you insisted the reunions are too ignoble for you.""For the last two reunions, James was the one who led me to believe that these events were too ignoble for him. And despite the fact that Mona and I attended the same school, she is just my husband's secretary. I don't recall asking her to keep tabs over what I will or won't be attending," I coolly stated. While James was looking clueless what to do to deflect the bad light I had just cast on him, Mona desperately tried to salvage the situation. "Is this your ploy to make me look bad in front of all our classmates? You told me you won't be attending, only to show up, trying to play me for a fool for believing you.""You can tell them whatever yo
