Chapter 5

Penulis: Little Happiness
Fortunately, Timothy seemed to still have some faith in me. He only lifted the corner of each page and signed where needed without even reading the contract's contents.

When he signed the last page, which was the divorce agreement, my heart finally settled. I was afraid that he would realize what he'd done, so I quickly took the contract away as soon as he finished.

Back in the master bedroom, I carefully slipped the divorce agreement with Timothy's signature into the pages of a book for safekeeping.

It would take a month for the divorce to be finalized.

Later that night, I started packing to move out of the master bedroom.

When Timothy returned and saw me limping around, gathering my things to make way for his mistress and illegitimate daughter, he stopped me.

"Let Laura or the maids handle this," he said, his tone relatively gentle. "Once this blows over, they'll leave, and you can move back in. Don't worry. They won't stay long."

I let out a bitter laugh and swept a gaze over his serious face. "Should I be thanking you for your graciousness?"

His expression instantly turned cold.

I was just moving to a guest room, not into a new house. There wasn't much for me to pack. I grabbed some skincare products and clothes, but the most important thing was a small wooden urn from the top of the closet in the bedroom.

I didn't ask anyone to help me with it. I stood on a chair and carefully took the urn down myself. The child in those photos was Timothy's precious treasure, and this urn held mine.

But my treasure couldn't live freely like other children. It would stay forever in this urn, untouched by sunlight.

While I was retrieving it, Timothy was on the balcony, making a call. He meticulously instructed his assistant on the safest route to bring Yasmin and Daphne to the villa.

When he finished his call and came back in, he saw me clutching the urn. A trace of displeasure crossed his face. "Why are you taking that?"

His eyes held a hint of confusion.

I couldn't help but wonder whether he would still have cheated if our daughter hadn't died. Would our daughter have been his treasure, too?

The thought was gone in a flash. I didn't want to keep tormenting myself over a man like him.

As I turned to leave, Timothy grabbed my wrist. "I asked you a question. Why are you taking that?"

I looked at him icily. "Because this is the only thing in this house that belongs to me."

I didn't know whether my words had touched the last shred of his conscience, but he slowly loosened his grip.

I moved to the guest room and placed the urn in the safest spot. Then, I stared at it for a long time.

The next day at noon, Yasmin and Daphne were brought to the villa. Laura had just finished preparing lunch. It was a full spread of vegetarian dishes. No matter how varied or refined the dishes were, they were still vegetarian.

Neither Yasmin nor Daphne was used to it, but Yasmin seemed eager to please Timothy. Not only did she pretend to enjoy it, but she also coaxed and pressured Daphne to eat.

I scoffed. The glamorous TV star was nothing special after all. It was a good thing I wasn't her fan.

After tasting a few dishes, Timothy set down his cutlery, looking dissatisfied. "Were these ingredients freshly flown in today? The quinoa doesn't taste right, either."

Laura glanced at me awkwardly before explaining, "Mrs. Grant usually prepares your meals herself. She usually mixes other grains with the quinoa in precise proportions. She wasn't feeling well today, so I could only reproduce the recipes based on what I remember. I couldn't replicate the flavor."

Timothy probably hadn't realized how different the food would taste with someone else cooking. His gaze lingered on me, heavy with meaning, but I didn't offer to take over the cooking again.

After all, who would be foolish enough to pour time and effort into cooking for another woman's man?

Victoria was trembling with anger. The housekeepers panicked. "Mrs. Shore Senior, what's wrong? Quick! Give her the fast-acting heart medicine!"I rushed to her side, helped her catch her breath, and gave her the medicine. Only then did she slowly calm down, the angry flush on her face finally easing. It broke my heart to see her at her age, so deeply distressed because of Timothy.Trying to get him to leave as quickly as possible, I said, "Timothy, I'll go back with you. Whatever issues we have, we can deal with them ourselves. Don't involve anyone else."Victoria cut in, her tone sharp. "Wait. Josie cannot go with you."I looked at her gratefully, my voice thick with emotion. "Mrs. Shore Senior, I know you're doing this for my sake, but I don't want to bother you. You're getting older, and you shouldn't have to worry this much.""I see you as my own granddaughter. Do you think I'd stop worrying if you left?" she said. She pointed at Timothy, her voice sharp. "With a man like th

Timothy stepped into the living room, his driver behind him carrying several expensive gifts.Victoria sized him up with a sharp look and said, "Mr. Grant, visiting an old lady at this late hour is far more than I can tolerate. As for all these gifts, the Shore family doesn't need them. The only thing we need is a kind and sensible granddaughter-in-law."She didn't even bother to hide her opinion. Timothy understood perfectly. His expression grew cold, but he restrained himself as he said, "Mrs. Shore Senior, I'm here to take my wife home. I know you share a special bond with her, so it makes sense that she would visit you first after returning safely. But it's late, and she should come home with me now."Victoria laughed coldly. "Who are you calling your wife? Your so-called wife is not Josie. It's that famous actress, Yasmin. The Shore family could never accept someone like her. If you want a wife, don't look for her here."Timothy took a deep breath. "Mrs. Shore Senior, I don'

When Isaac answered the call, it wasn't Diana on the line but Benedict, his voice urgent and shaken. "Isaac, do you have time right now? You need to come to the hospital immediately. Diana is in critical condition. The doctor had me sign a critical notice. I'm afraid she may not make it." "How did this happen? The chemotherapy treatment had been working well. The doctors from abroad confirmed it. She shouldn't have deteriorated so suddenly." Isaac's voice grew heavy.Benedict's voice faltered, filled with guilt. "This is my fault. I failed you and Diana. I raised an ungrateful, reckless child. Harriett went to Diana today and told her about you and Josie. "She said things she never should have. I didn't teach her well. Diana started coughing up blood, and the doctors say that her condition is very critical."Isaac ended the call, stood, and headed straight for the door. I watched him stalk off, a sense of unease growing with every step. My fingers curled tightly as my heart sank.

The black limousine rolled smoothly through the gates of the Shore residence. The moment I opened the door, two small figures came running toward me like wild horses and threw themselves straight into my arms."Mom! I thought you were never coming back. Where did you go? Did someone really abduct you?" Daphne's voice broke as she cried. She wrapped her little arms tightly around my waist.Shannon's eyes were red as well. She clutched my sleeve and sniffed. "Ms. York, I missed you so much. I'm so glad you're back."My chest tightened. I crouched and gently stroked their hair. "I'm sorry for making you worry. I wasn't abducted. I just had to go out of town for work. See? I'm back now, safe and sound."I avoided telling them the truth. They were still too young for that."As long as you're home, that's all that matters." Victoria walked over with her cane and took my hand, studying my face closely. When she saw that I looked good, she finally relaxed."You gave me such a scare. Fort

Sometimes, after I finished cooking, I would ask Timothy with hopeful excitement when he would be coming home. But he would reply with two cold words, stingy as always, "I'm busy."Now, he finally understood what I must have felt back then.Timothy's chest felt so tight that it was almost suffocating.
