Maxwell's POV

The courthouse was cold.

I sat in the gallery behind the table, watching Hailey as Christina went through documents. She hadn't looked back at me once we'd arrived, we didn't speak beyond necessary words for the past days.

But I was here, right behind her. I'd stayed no matter how much she tried to shut me out.

The court officer's voice cut through the courtroom. "Court's in session. Judge Davina Rutherford presiding."

Everyone stood up. Judge Rutherford was in her fifties, sharp-eyed, no-nonsense. She settled into her seat and surveyed the room with the kind of look that said she'd seen every manipulation, every lie, every desperate play.

"Be seated."

Floyd sat across the aisle with his legal team, three lawyers in expensive suits, stacks of files, the kind of arsenal that cost six figures. Kimberley wasn't there.

Floyd's lead attorney stood, Mason Navarro, was notorious for winning impossible custody cases.

"Your Honor, we're here today because my client, Floyd Langford, was deliberately denied the knowledge of his son's existence for five years." Navarro's voice was smooth. "Ms. Ramsey made a calculated decision to hide pregnancy, to raise the child without his father, and to only acknowledge that he was the father when it became legally unavoidable."

Hailey's hands tighten on her lap.

"We have DNA proof confirming Mr. Langford is the biological father." Navarro gestured, and an assistant passed documents to the judge. "We have witnesses attesting to my client's stable home, his financial capability to provide for the child, and his genuine desire to be a father."

He paused for effect.

"What we also have, Your Honor, is a pattern of deception. Ms. Ramsey hid this child for five years. Then, conveniently, married Maxwell Kingston days after inheriting billions, a marriage that gave her legal protection and public sympathy. The timing is... a cause for alarm."

My jaw tightened so hard I thought my teeth would crack.

Christina stood smoothly. "Judge, may I?"

"Proceed, Ms. Newton."

"My client did not hide her pregnancy deliberately." Christina's voice was calm. "She made a decision any single mother in her position would make, she protected herself and her unborn child from a man who had just abandoned her."

She pulled out her own documents.

"Mr. Langford ended their relationship abruptly, with no explanation, no support, no indication he wanted anything to do with Ms. Ramsey's future."

Christina's eyes were sharp. "Ms. Ramsey didn't hide the pregnancy. Mr. Langford simply didn't care enough to find out..."

"Objection," Navarro interrupted. "Speculation about my client..."

"Overruled." Judge Rutherford's voice was flat. "Continue, Ms. Newton."

"Ms. Ramsey raised Gio alone for five years. Built a stable home. Provided everything he needed. Gio is a happy child who knows love and security. And now, after five years of absence, Mr. Langford appears with lawyers and DNA tests, demanding custody of a child he's never met."

She let those words sink in.

"As for Ms. Ramsey's marriage to Mr. Kingston, yes the timing collides with her inheritance. But Mr. Kingston has been a devoted stepdad. The bond between them is real, Your Honor. Biology doesn't erase that."

Judge Rutherford made a note. "Mr. Navarro, your response?"

"Your Honor, love isn't the issue here, her decision-making is." Navarro's smile was cold. "She made decisions that benefited herself, hiding the pregnancy, marrying for legal protection, without considering what was best for the kid. My client deserves the opportunity to be a father. To know his son."

"And the boy deserves a father who makes an effort," Christina countered sharply. "Not one who appears with lawyers after five years because it's suddenly convenient."

"Enough." Judge Rutherford's voice cut through. "Ms. Ramsey, approach the stand."

Hailey stood, and I saw her hands tremble before she held them together.

She walked to the witness stand like she was walking to an execution.

Navarro circled her like a predator. "Ms. Ramsey, when did you discover you were pregnant?"

"On the day Floyd and I broke up." Her voice was barely steady.

"And you didn't think to inform Mr. Langford?"

A pause. "No."

"Why not?"

"Because he'd made it clear he wanted nothing to do with me." Her voice cracked slightly. "I wasn't going to beg."

"So instead, you made a solo decision to raise the child alone. To deny my client his parental rights."

"I protected my son from feeling abandoned," Hailey said, her eyes flashing with rage. "From a man who walked away without explanation."

"Or perhaps," Navarro's voice was practiced, "you saw an opportunity. A child could be Insurance. Especially after your father's death made you a billionaire heiress."

Hailey's face went pale. "That's not...I would never..."

"You married Maxwell Kingston three days after inheriting your father's company," Navarro pressed. "A man you barely knew. Doesn't that seem... Planned?"

"I married him because I needed protection." Her voice was shaking now. "From people like you. From a media circus. From Floyd showing up with lawyers trying to take my son."

"Your son." Navarro emphasized the words. "Not Mr. Langford's son. Despite DNA. Despite the fact that he has a legal right..."

"He has no right!" The words burst out of her. "He walked away! He doesn't get to come back five years later and demand..."

"Ms. Ramsey." Judge Rutherford's voice was sharp. "Compose yourself."

Hailey pressed her lips together, tears building up. I wanted to jump the railing. Wanted to tear Navarro apart with my bare hands for reducing her to this. But I stayed there frozen, useless.

"No further questions," Navarro said, satisfied.

The judge called for recess at noon.

Hailey walked out of the courtroom like a ghost. I followed, keeping close but not touching, not sure if I was allowed to anymore.

Christina guided us to a private room, but the moment the door closed, Hailey collapsed into a chair.

"I can't..." Her voice broke. "Did you hear him? He made it sound like I used Gio. Like I..."

"You didn't." I crouched in front of her, forcing her to look at me. "He's twisting everything. That's what they do."

"But what if the judge believes him?" Her eyes were wild. "What if she thinks I'm exactly what he said? What if..."

"She won't." I took her shaking hands. "You're Gio's mother. That matters more than DNA."

"Does it?" She pulled away. "Because from where I'm sitting, DNA is winning."

I had no answer for that.

Christina returned. the two hours crawled by in excruciating silence. When we filed back in, my heart was beating loudly against my ribs.

Judge Rutherford looked at her notes. "I've reviewed everything presented today. While I do acknowledge Ms. Ramsey's role as primary caregiver, I can't ignore Mr. Langford's biological rights and his expressed desire for involvement."

"Therefore, I'm granting supervised visitation. Two hours, every Saturday, starting in two weeks. Court-appointed supervisor will be present."

Hailey made a devastated sound.

"This isn't final," the judge continued. "We'll check back again in two months to assess and determine modifications. Court dismissed."

Everything stopped. Hailey didn't move. Didn't cry. Just stared at nothing while Floyd's lawyers congratulated him across the aisle.

"Hailey." I touched her shoulder.

She flinched. "He won."

"It's supervised. Two hours..."

"It's the beginning." She looked at me, and the pain in her eyes gutted me. "Two hours becomes weekends becomes custody. This is how I lose him."

Her voice broke completely.

And I had absolutely no idea how to fix it.

Hailey's POV His mouth was on mine, hot and desperate, and I couldn't think past the need consuming me.Water poured over us, soaking through what was left of our clothes. My dress pooled at my feet. His shirt was open, buttons scattered on the shower floor. His hands gripped my waist through my soaked bra, pulling me closer.I knew this was a mistake. Knew crossing this line would destroy every careful boundary we'd built. Knew I'd regret it in the morning when reality came crashing back. But I couldn't stop. Didn't want to.My fingers fumbled with his belt, hands shaking from cold or adrenaline or need, I didn't know anymore. I Got it open. Shoved his pants down.He groaned against my mouth, his hands sliding down to grip my thighs. Then he lifted me effortlessly, and I wrapped my legs around his waist, my back hitting the cold tile. The contrast, his body burning hot, the tile ice cold, made me gasp. His mouth found my neck, biting down gently before soothing with his tongue. Hailey's POVI held it together in the courtroom. Held it together while Floyd's lawyers shook hands and smiled like they'd won the lottery. Held it together while Christina assured me this was just temporary, that surprised visits weren't full custody, that we'd fight harder next time. I held it together in the car while Maxwell sat beside me, his hand hovering near mine but not touching, like he wasn't sure if he was allowed anymore.I held it together walking into the penthouse, taking off my heels, setting down my purse with hands that only shook a little."Hailey...""I'm fine." My voice came out steady. "I just need a minute."I walked to the master bathroom and closed the door. Turned on the shower. Stepped inside fully clothed. And couldn't hold it anymore. The sobs came violently, ripping out of my chest like something was tearing me apart from the inside. I sank down against the tile, cold water streaming over me, soaking through my dress, my hair, my skin. Two hours every S

  • Divorce ME Look Who Wants Me Back Now    Chapter 18: I Messed up

, Maxwell's POV I messed up. That much was clear from the way Hailey hadn't spoken to me in three days. Avoiding eye contact, maintaining a silence so thick it was deadly. I'd crossed a line with that press conference. I knew it. Did it anyway. Because when I'd seen Gio's face yesterday, small and scared, something in me had snapped. The need to protect him, to claim him, had overridden every logical thought. But Hailey looked at me now like I was a stranger. Or worse, like I was exactly what she'd accused me of being. Someone who made decisions for her. Someone who took control without asking. Someone like Floyd. That comparison had hit harder than it should've. Now we were in the car heading to the Denwood Foundation Gala, and the silence was deafening. She sat as far from me as possible, staring out the window, her phone clutched in her lap. I'd tried to apologize this morning. She'd walked away mid-sentence. This is going to be a long fucking night. The car pulled up to

  • Divorce ME Look Who Wants Me Back Now    Chapter 17: He Claimed My Son

Hailey's POV I barely slept. Everytime I closed my eyes, I saw Maxwell's face when Gio asked if he was still his daddy. He'd been furious last night. The kind of controlled rage that meant someone was going to pay. I just didn't expect that someone would be the entire media. My phone started buzzing at 6 AM, texts, calls, notifications pouring in so fast the screen couldn't keep up. Still half-asleep, i grabbed my phone.Breaking: Maxwell Kingston Claims Gio Langford as His Son"He's Mine." : Billionaire CEO's Explosive Declaration Kingston to Press: "Come Near My Family Again and Face Consequences" My stomach dropped. No. No,no,no,no.I was out of bed in seconds, throwing on the first clothes my hands found. My hands were shaking as I pulled up video after video, each one worse than the last.Cameras were flashing everywhere. Maxwell in a perfect suit, his expression deadly."I'm only saying this once," his voice came through my phone speakers. "Gio Ramsey is my son. Not biologic

  • Divorce ME Look Who Wants Me Back Now    Chapter 16: Did You Lie?

Hailey's POV I stayed in the bathroom for twenty minutes, gripping the marble sink until my knuckles literally turned white. My lips still burned from his kiss. My heart just wouldn't stop pounding. This can't be happening.I'd sworn I'd never let another man close enough to destroy me. Floyd had already proven what happened when I confused protection for love, when I misunderstood temporary safety for something real.Maxwell was worse. Because with Floyd, I'd been young and naive. With Maxwell, I knew better, and I was still falling anyway.I splashed cold water on my face, and forced myself to breathe. When I finally came out, the penthouse felt suffocating. Every room was a reminder of him, his coffee cup on the kitchen counter, his jacket draped over a chair, the faint scent of his cologne was in the air.I needed space. Anything to stop replaying the way he'd kissed me like I was something he'd been starving for.But there was nowhere to go. This was his penthouse. His space. An
