They nodded respectfully and walked away.

She wanted to look around the company before heading to Alexander's office.

When she got to the reception area ready to use the regular elevator, a receptionist stopped her.

“Excuse me Miss, where are you going?”

“Sorry, I'm going to the 63rd floor,” she answered honestly.

The receptionist sized her up with a hint of suspicion and asked, “The 63rd floor? Isn't that the chairman's office?"

“That's right. Is there a problem?” Sophia asked, wondering why so many questions.

“I should be the one asking that. Wait, do you have an appointment?”

“No, I don't need one,” Sophia replied, crossing her arms.

Only now did it occur to her that the receptionists might not recognize her.

Every time she came in with Alexander, they went straight to the VVIP elevator, which was just before the reception area.

And now she wanted to look around and couldn't go through it. She intended to use the regular elevator.

“Please leave while you can, Miss. Not anybody can

Excuse me, it's Amelia. She said and answered the call immediately.“Hello, Amelia, What's up?”“Hey girl, I'm so mad right now. I feel like punching someone.” Amelia's angry voice came.“Hey calm down. What happened? Did someone get on your nerves?” Sophia asked. She could tell her friend was really angry. What could have happened? It's just this morning that we saw each other. Did the client she went to see offend her? With her temper, she might have actually fought that client.“It's more than that. Someone wants me to commit murder. I wish you were nearby. I need someone to accompany me because I'm drinking the whole bar tonight.” Amelia ranted. Sophia could guess she was in a bar from the noise in the background. She felt sorry for her friend. She needs me, but I am miles away. How can I help her now?Just as she wanted to offer some comforting words, Amelia's earlier words struck her. She said she wished I was nearby. Does it mean…“Amelia, what do you mean? How did you know I

"I'm sorry Amelia. This must be hard for you. But I'm happy you found out before it's too late.” Sophia hugged her.“Yeah, no wonder he proposed so many times, but I just couldn’t bring myself to say yes," Amelia said.“Wait! Did you just say you kicked them out?” Sophia asked, remembering that detail.“Of course. I had bought that house for him. Luckily, I registered it under my name,” Amelia replied, feeling proud despite everything.“That's very clever of you, girl! I wish I saw his face when you kicked him out.” Sophia gave her a thumbs up, laughing at the thought.“I bet you would vomit. That loser even had the nerve to kneel and beg.” Amelia said, unable to hide the disdain she felt for her ex-boyfriend."Cheers to the new beginnings!" Sophia raised a toast to her."You can say it again. To the new beginnings!" Amelia said, gladly accepting it.“So what will you do with the house?” Sophia asked.“Didn't I say am loaded now? I already sold it!” Amelia replied, gulping another gla

“Soph… why'd you stop? Help me to my room. It should be in the next building. My keycard is in …my Jacket …yes…” Amelia said in between hiccups.Michael, who was fuming just now, caught sight of the woman. She was so drunk that she could barely stand on her own. "What kind of friends does Sophia have?" he asked in disdain.  He almost reached for his phone to call his assistant, but before he could, Amelia stood up stumbling. But before she hit the wall, he reached out and grabbed her, supporting her on his chest. “Soph, why aren't you… saying anything? Are you … drunk too? I forgot … you were heartbroken just yesterday. Did you drink too much too?” Amelia asked, trying to touch her friend's face. Michael swatted her hands away in disgust.“Your friend abandoned you. You're left alone. Can you behave?” “What?” Amelia's mind cleared up as she registered the unfamiliar

“Okay, I’ll stay. I won’t leave," he assured her, sounding surprisingly gentle, even to himself.Amelia was soon carried away by sleep and only then did Michael pull his hand away. He went to the sitting room and sat on the couch. But he couldn't concentrate. He pulled out his cigarettes and went out to the balcony. He didn’t usually smoke, but right now, he needed one to calm his nerves.***Meanwhile, in Eldridge City, Emily came out of the shower in her apartment. She had just dried her hair when her phone rang from the bedroom table. She checked and was surprised to see a new number. She answered cautiously. “Hello?” There was no response from the other side. “Hello, who's there?” she asked again but still no one responded. “Wait, you scammer, if you're trying to scam me, you won't succeed. I'm very alert!” She warned, but still, the caller didn't respond. “If you're not talking I'll hang up right away…” “Hey, don't hang up, please!” An urgent voice came from the other end

Before she could think further, the door swung open, and Michael walked in with a cup of tea.“Hey, what are you doing in my room? And who are you?” Amelia screamed, covering herself with a bedsheet.'Is he the one Sophia talked about? So he didn't leave?' She wondered.“Sorry, I didn't know you were naked,” Michael said, covering his eyes.“And who said I'm naked?” Amelia questioned angrily.“Okay, I brought this to help with your hangover,” he said, uncovering his eyes and walking towards her.“Close your eyes! Stop looking!” she screamed again.“Didn't you say you're not naked?” Michael was more confused. It is indeed hard to understand women.“I'll be outside, dress first,” he placed the tea on the bedroom table and said as he walked out.Amelia ran back to her phone and dialed Sophia. The latter picked up right away, “Amelia,

Seeing her wrapped in someone else’s arms, smiling shyly while hiding her face like a teenage girl in love…It shattered whatever hope he had left.As he walked away, his mind spun with questions and regrets. Was it too late? Could he still fix this? Or had he lost her forever?"Jaime, why have you been avoiding me? Are you still chasing after that woman?"A familiar voice interrupted his thoughts. He turned to see Janette, the woman he had been with just the day before.Calming slightly, he forced a smile. "I need her for the house. I just lost my job the other day. Where am I going to stay?" he said, frustration creeping into his voice."You still don't know, do you?" Janette asked mockingly."Know what, Janette?""That woman sold the house yesterday. I bet the new owner might be moving in today," she said with a hint of disdain."What?" Jaime gasped, stumbling back a couple of steps."The house is already sold? What am I going to do now?"He turned to Janette, a spark of hope light

Meanwhile, back in Averia, Alexander’s car rolled to a stop outside a modest building nestled between tall sycamore trees. The sign above the gate read Happy Orphanage in faded blue paint. The walls were worn and the compound was quiet and solemn. A woman in her mid-fifties stepped out to meet him. Her hair was tied in a tight bun, streaked with gray, and her eyes held both kindness and years of experience. She wore a plain beige dress and clutched a manila folder to her chest like it held secrets. “Welcome to Happy Orphanage, Mr. Evans. We’re at your service,” she greeted warmly, with a practiced tone like someone used to formalities and farewells. Alexander nodded and followed her inside. In her office, she showed Alexander all the files related to the person he was looking for. “According to your description, this is the person who was at the orphanage and later rescued by her parents that same year,” she explained, handing over the file. Alexander took the document and fli

Back in Eldridge, in the backyard of Jason's estate, Rachel knelt by her flowerbed, humming a tune as she worked. She wore a flowing cream-colored dress that fluttered slightly with the breeze. A wide straw hat shielded her face, but even then, the grace in her every movement showed. Her hands, though elegant, weren’t afraid of dirt. She held a small pruning shear and gently snipped away a dried leaf from one of her prized roses. The garden was in full bloom, with roses in shades of blush and deep red, lilies standing tall and proud, and dainty white daisies dancing in the wind. It was her happy place. Every weekend, she spent at least an hour here. It was one of the few things that grounded her and made her feel like everything would be okay. She wiped her forehead with the back of her glove, smiling faintly at the progress she had made. Her flowerbed looked perfect.Just then, a servant came rushing out from the house, breathless.“Madam, Mr. Evans is here. He doesn’t look like he c

Over the next few days, Sophia was busy finalizing her drafts for the competition. Alexander got busy with his work too, and surprisingly, he hadn't heard from Jessica since that night. He had done a lot in cornering Gerald, making it hard for him to make a move. On this day, he was standing by the window of his office, his eyes cast over the view of Eldridge City. He could see almost three-quarters of the city from his office. But his mind was consumed with other matters. The city view didn’t catch his attention at all. A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. “Come in,” he said, still looking outside. Mark, his able assistant, walked in with an iPad in hand. “Boss, the investigation about Larry is done and the information has been compiled. Should we send it to him?” Mark asked, scrolling through the data. Alexander turned around, tucking his hands in his pants pockets. “There’s no rush. Wait for the right time,” he said, walking back to his desk. “Alright, boss,” Ma

Once inside, Nina saw an elegant looking young woman, probably in her twenties, adjusting her makeup in the washroom mirror. She looked like the kind of woman who never checks price tags because everything about her screamed wealthy. She was dressed in a silky white blouse tucked neatly into caramel-colored trousers that hugged her just right. Her heels were sharp, shiny, and expensive. Even her designer handbag, resting by the sink, looked like it had its own security detail. Her makeup was impossible to miss; long lashes, bold red lips, heavy eyeliner, and skin so smooth it looked airbrushed. Her black hair hung straight and sleek down her back, parted perfectly in the middle. She didn’t need to say anything. Just standing there, fixing her lipstick in the mirror, she looked like someone who was used to getting her way.***Meanwhile, in the tallest building in Eldridge City, the Evans Tower, Alexander sat at his desk as he listened to Mark deliver the financial reports. After Mark

  • Divorce To Marry A CEO    Chapter 129: This Is My Chance

After a brief chat and a few hugs, Alexander and Sophia walked off toward their car. A man in black opened the door for them as the sleek vehicle purred to life and pulled away slowly.Amelia and Michael remained behind watching their car until it disappeared.“You missed your chance to score a hug,” Michael teased.Amelia rolled her eyes. “And you missed your chance to shut up.”“Okay, ma’am. Your ride is waiting. Shall we?” he said, leading her to the car.Amelia didn’t object. She nodded and followed him.Sophia arrived at Allure Fashion at 10 AM, and after catching up with her colleagues, she dove into work immediately.Nina watched her silently from her desk, but Sophia could tell she didn’t plan to cause any more trouble. At least not for now.Relieved, she focused on polishing her pending designs.Lunchtime arrived so fast before she could realize it.It was Emily who approached her desk, reminding her cheerfully."Hey girl, let's go grab something. “What is it?” He turned around, eyeing her vigilantly.“Can you promise me that no one will ever find out about this, please? Not even Sophia,” she requested.Alexander paused, overwhelmed with guilt. If he had been more careful, none of this would have happened.“Okay, you have my word,” he promised and left the room.As the door clicked shut, Jessica’s trembling lips slowly curled into a cunning smile.“And the game has just begun. Sophia... I hope you’re ready, darling,” she whispered, wiping away her fake tears.By the time Alexander settled, it was already past 1 AM. He checked his phone and was shocked to find several missed calls from Sophia.“Oh no, I forgot to update her!” he mumbled, his muscles tensing as he raked a hand through his hair.It was too late to call her now! With a heavy sigh, he sent her a text:‘Hi honey, I hope you’re doing well. Sorry, I had an emergency to deal with and I couldn’t answer your calls. Talk tomorrow. Goodnight. I love you!’After that, he dia

Back in Sadrova restaurant, Alexander emerged from the bathroom after several knocks on the door.He wrapped a towel around his waist and opened the door.Tim hurried in with his bag. He looked just like any other thirty-year-old guy who happened to be on duty. His white doctor’s coat was slightly creased like he’d rushed out of the hospital without a second thought. Underneath, he had on a black T-shirt and jeans, just something comfortable for a long shift. A stethoscope still hung around his neck, probably out of habit more than anything. His glasses gave him a smart, slightly serious look, but there was an easygoing air about him.“What took you so long?” Alexander asked, masking the discomfort in his body."I left my patients waiting just to come here, and you're complaining?" Tim asked casually, placing his bag on the couch.Alexander just snorted, glaring at him before making his way to the couch.Tim didn’t waste time once he saw Alexander’s condition. He quickly prepared a s

Alexander closed his eyes tightly, unwilling to look at her. Images of Sophia flooded his mind.“No, I can’t let this happen. I won’t,” he muttered, biting his lower lip hard as if the pain would fight off the drug’s effect. He struggled to wake up again, pushing Jessica away. She tried to resist but this time, Alexander shoved her harder, and she fell from the bed.He didn't even spare her a glance; he quickly bent toward the bedside table, grabbed his phone, and staggered out of the room.He struggled to walk in the hallway, holding on to the wall for support. When he reached the next suite, he found a couple holding each other as they were about to make their way in.The man opened the door with a gentlemanly smile, signaling to the lady to get in first. Before the woman could react, Alexander snatched the room card and staggered inside leaving the words, “Sorry, I need to use the room.”Before the man could react, he had already locked the door from the inside.“Damn it!” The man

Meanwhile, back in Hawthorne's ancestral home, Marcus knocked on his grandpa's bedroom, casually tucking his other hand into his pants pocket. After Raphael murmured from inside, he pushed the door open and walked inside. The room was dimly lit, with a bedside lamp casting a soft amber glow over the space. The air held a comforting mix of lavender and woody from the old oak furniture.A large, neatly made bed stood against the far wall, its thick duvet turned down slightly, perhaps he was ready for bedtime. An antique clock ticked quietly on the wall, and a pair of slippers sat perfectly aligned by the edge of a plush rug.Raphael was seated on a couch near the window with a steaming cup of tea on the small table in front of him. Despite the warmth in the room, he had a shawl draped over his shoulders, and the lines on his face seemed deeper under the soft light. He seemed to have aged more since the last time Marcus saw him. “Grandpa,” he greeted.“Sit,” Raphael said, pointing at t

Chapter 124: Alexander's Helpless Alexander’s jaw clenched and his eyes darkened. The tension in the room grew so thick that it felt like the air itself was pressing down on everyone. Mark turned to him apologetically, “Sorry, boss, I will...” “It's okay. You can go.” Alexander cut him off coldly. Then he added, “Mark, you can take your leave. You will be rewarded for today." He had just remembered it was supposed to be Mark's off day. “Thank you, boss.” Mark nodded happily before walking out, knowing that his boss didn't blame him. Bullock swallowed hard as he stood up to face Jessica. “Miss Jason, whatever deal we had with your father is being handled by my secretary. Please go speak to her,” he said politely. “I just did that but she couldn't give me any substantial explanation. That's why I came to look for you,” Jessica said with a righteous voice, sounding offended. “I'll look for Mr Jason myself and give him an explanation,” Bruno said, trying to send Jessica aw

“You're the pride of the Hawthornes, my dear. That Sophia was our bad luck; Look at how we're prospering now that she's gone. My son is more accomplished now that she isn't here to drag him behind.” Evelyn clapped like a child who just won a prize, her eyes glowing with pride. She walked over to Marcus and patted his shoulder like he’d just won a major award. “I’m so proud of you, son.” “Marcus, I hope you're not still dreaming of bringing her back,” Lauren scoffed, tilting her chin up in distaste. Marcus leaned back lazily, his arms spread across the back of the couch. He smirked, brushing invisible dust from his shirt like a king making a declaration. “Sophia will be mine sooner or later..." “Marcus, you're just digging your own grave. Go see your grandpa now.” His father's angry voice came from upstairs interrupting them. “So it's true you don't believe in me, Dad. Is that why you stepped down?” Marcus turned to him with his face full of disappointment. His fathe
