Natalie’s POV

What the hell was I doing?

I immediately looked away and shook my head, groaning under my breath.

Nope. No! We are not doing this.

I turned around, nearly tripping over my heels as I made a beeline for the crowd. I wasn’t even sure what I was running from, his face or my own thoughts.

My heart was pounding like I just got caught sneaking into some forbidden party, which, technically… wasn’t far from the truth.

The lights dimmed.

Perfect. Now I couldn’t even see.

“Emma?” I called out, but the music swallowed her name whole.

I tried to push through the people, ignoring the hands that reached toward me with cheesy lines like, “May I have this dance?” and “Looking for someone or just destiny?”

God.

I swerved left to avoid another guy, then someone stepped on my dress from behind, and I stumbled forward.

Crap. I was going down.

But then arms... firm, steady, and familiar.

“I got you,” said a voice close to my ear.

I looked up, and of course it was him.

Brandon.

Of all people.

Natalie’s POVI wasn’t sure what was more uncomfortable... sitting this close to him on a long flight or pretending like nothing almost happened between us a few nights ago.Thankfully, he didn’t bring it up. Not even a hint. No smirk, no teasing remark, just… silence. Professional silence.“We’re still waiting on the signed deed from the municipal office,” I said after flipping through the case folder. “Should come in by Thursday.”He nodded. “Good. That gives us room to start negotiations.”That was it. Cold, safe, business talk. I could live with that.Halfway through the flight, he leaned a little closer and tapped his pen against the margin of the document I was reviewing.“Our client, Vivian Sinclair,” he said. “Heir to the Sinclair family business. You familiar with her?”I glanced up. “Heard of her. Rumor says she’s practically royalty in France. Smart, strategic, with a good reputation.”“And pretty,” he added, almost absentmindedly.I didn’t respond to that. Just smiled a li

Brandon’s POVNatalie was definitely tipsy. I don’t know if it was the wine, the music, or just the way the night turned out, but something about her seemed lighter... less guarded. She talked more in the car than I’d heard her speak all week. Fast, animated, even laughing at things that weren’t that funny. Not that I minded. Drunk Natalie was… adorable. She even used her hands when she talked, like she had too many words and not enough space in her mouth to hold them all.I couldn’t stop smiling. And I couldn’t stop thinking about the moment I saw her walk into the ballroom earlier.I didn’t expect her to show up. She turned me down at the restaurant, and I didn’t push it.I figured maybe I’d screwed up again, or maybe she just didn’t want to be anywhere near me unless it was about work. But then she walked in.Dark red dress. Mask. Lipstick that made it really hard to look away.Damn! I’ve never seen anyone prettier. It was like getting a gift I’d been waiting for, but forgot I wan

Natalie’s POV“But one thing doesn’t make sense…” Brandon said, lowering his fork and looking at me. “Dylan confirmed she’s currently not in the U.S.”My breath hitched. Just for a second. That meant Dylan had covered for me. I let out a silent sigh of relief and gave a small nod like I didn’t just escape a heart attack.“If that weren’t the case,” Brandon continued, “I’d really think you were my ex-wife.”He grinned and even winked.I didn’t laugh.I just stared at him and forced my lips into a polite, flat line.He raised both hands in mock surrender. “Alright, maybe that joke really wasn’t that funny.”“It’s definitely not,” I said, picking at the edge of my napkin.God, I almost admitted it. One wrong word and it would’ve all come crashing down.I hadn’t meant to lie to him not at first. But the way he spoke about his ex-wife to me… like she was some greedy, nameless ghost in his past. And the way he spoke to me now… warm, respectful, even a little impressed. That gap between how

Natalie’s POV I couldn’t speak. No words came out.Dylan’s confession was still hanging in the air between us, and all I could do was stare at him… wide-eyed, heart pounding, lips parted like maybe something would come out. But nothing did. Then, as if fate knew I needed saving, my phone rang.I jumped. He looked down at his lap and sighed. Just one look at the screen was enough for him to know.“Brandon,” he said quietly, then gave me the smallest nod. “Go ahead.”His voice was calm, but his eyes… God, they weren’t. I saw it all—disappointment, frustration, and that faint trace of hope disappearing like smoke.I stood up slowly, still holding the phone to my ear.“Hey,” Brandon said on the other end, like nothing was burning. “I’m near your firm. Want to grab a bite and talk through a few case points?”“Sure,” I said too quickly. “I’ll meet you downstairs.”I grabbed my bag without looking back. I couldn’t. Because if I did… I’d probably stay.Dylan stayed seated, hands resting on h

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 18 – Being In Love?

Natalie's POVI walked out of Brandon’s office, but my mind stayed behind. His questions. His tone. The way he kept trying to explain things like they’d make sense if I just gave him a second chance. It didn’t sit right.Especially the part where he said there was nothing going on between him and Carmilla. Please. He might’ve convinced himself of that, but I wasn’t born yesterday. The way she acts around him? The way his mother talks? There’s history there... maybe messy, maybe not, but I wasn’t about to be the idiot in the room pretending not to see it.And his mother? That one stung more than I wanted to admit. It’s not like I needed their approval. I didn’t even want it. But hearing how little they thought of Brandon’s ex-wife—of me—made something tighten in my chest.Like all those years I spent taking care of his grandfather, running back and forth between hospitals and boardrooms, meant nothing. They really saw me as just some invisible housewife they could brush off and forget.
