I barely slept. The crying dream came again, the same way it always does—loud, desperate, just beyond my reach. I wake up gasping for breath every time.

Then I slept late and this is my third coffee ,and I was meant to be in the office two hours ago. I just can’t today.

It took me forever to get to sleep. The argument I had with Lisa, the things she said about me were on replay in my mind. I know she’s not herself. I know she doesn’t want to not be friends anymore.

But Lisa always tells it like it is. The delivery may have been way more frantic, but I know she spoke her mind about Jayden and I. And I can’t believe that her opinion of me has gotten that low.

She is my best friend and I love her. She’s also in a very hard place right now and I want to be there for her in any way I can.

I grab my phone to call her and scroll through notifications. Lisa’s name pops up.

Winona, please put on your big girl panties and just tell Jayden how you feel. What does it matter what Lisa said or what Cas said? He had to listen to you and y’all work it out or you coparent and move on. But please do something for crying out loud.

It took a week to get through one day in this book. This is so frustrating because it’s gone nowhere & nothing has happened. No forward motion. I don’t see myself continuing this for another 6 months to a year which is how long it feels it going to drag out.
