“Sabrina,” he said, his voice dropping low, “what do you mean something’s wrong?”

On the other end, her breathing was uneven.

Panicked.

“It’s Dad,” she said again, like repeating it might make it easier to understand. “He collapsed earlier, and when the doctors came, he refused.”

Adrian’s brows knitted.

“Refused what?”

“Treatment!” she cried. “He won’t let them touch him. He keeps pushing everyone away.”

Adrian’s grip tightened around his phone.

“That’s ridiculous.”

“I know!” Sabrina snapped.

The car window slid down slowly, revealing Richard’s calm, almost apologetic face. “Surprise!” “Are you out of your mind? Do you know where this is?” “Of course I do. See…” Richard tried to get out of the car. “Heyyy heyyy… stay right there.” She crossed to the other side and opened the car door, letting herself in. “What’s this nonsense about?” “Melissa,” he began, his voice even but urgent, “I didn’t expect you to come out here, but… here you are.”Melissa’s eyes narrowed. “Richard… I’m not joking with you. What exactly are you doing here?”“I’m outside because you’ve been ignoring my calls,” he said, leaning slightly forward. “I Have sent several messages; you won’t respond either.” “Is that why you decided to show up at Miranda's grand welcome banquet? Huh? Do you have any idea what that means?” He tried to respond, but Melissa was not done talking. “Of course, you do. That was why you sent me a message threatening to come inside if I don’t meet you here.” “It wasn’t a

Miranda’s words hung in the air, sharp and unexpected.“Would you be willing to father another man’s child?”Noah repeated the question in his head after he had recovered from the shock the question gave him.For a moment, he could not even respond. His mind scrambled, twisting the question over and over, trying to parse the meaning, the intention, the implications. Can she tell how I feel already? Wait? How do I even feel? What message did I pass through to her? How does she feel about my feelings? Is she considering me? Is she willing to give us a chance? But do I want a chance? He exhaled, letting go of the tension in his troubled mind. “I…” he began, but stopped abruptly. There was no right answer to such a sudden, delicate inquiry. Before he could regain his composure, movement appeared in the distance.“Miranda!”Colin’s voice broke through the quiet. His face was pale, his eyes wide, and his steps hurried. He pushed past a few stray guests who had wandered near the balco

The moment Colin realized Miranda was gone, his stomach dropped.“Wait… where did she go?” he demanded, scanning the ballroom, his voice sharp with panic.Clara’s eyes widened. “She was right there just now." She pointed to the place she last saw Miranda. She can’t just… she wouldn’t leave without telling us.”“Do you think she left with your Dad or something?” Melissa asked. “No… that can’t be. That’s dad and Mom over there, having the best time of their lives with their friends,” Colin bit out. “Oh, God, they can’t know Miranda is out of sight.” Melissa’s brow furrowed. “Do you think something’s wrong? Did someone…”“No,” Colin cut in, shaking his head frantically. “I mean… the security is tight.” “She could have gone out to get some air or something…” Clara added. Colin stepped closer to her, urgency flashing in his gaze. “We need to find her now. I don’t want her out of my sight. What if she’s vulnerable?"Melissa nodded, already moving toward the nearest exit. “I’ll check th

The ballroom froze. Cameras flashed. The clatter of heels and murmurs filled the air as Vivian Shaw attempted to rise, regain her composure, and retreat into the shadows.Clara, standing behind Colin and Melissa, could barely contain her smirk. She had been waiting for this moment, the perfect culmination of her carefully orchestrated reveal. Slowly, she stepped forward, her presence undeniable.“Well, isn’t this a sight?” Clara’s voice rang clear across the hall, cutting through the whispers. “It seems someone didn’t get the memo about who is in charge of tonight’s event.”Vivian looked up, face pale, lips pressed tightly. The realization hit her: there was nowhere to hide. Every eye in the room turned toward her.Colin straightened, his expression commanding authority. “Vivian Shaw,” he called, his voice amplified just enough to reach the edges of the crowd. “I don’t care why you’re here, and I’m not going to ask you how you got here either. You have been blacklisted from any f

This was supposed to be Vivian Shaw’s stepping stone back to fame. Then Miranda had appeared. The same Miranda.Adrian’s ex-wife.The woman Vivian had once pitied, bullied, mocked and underestimated. The woman whose tears had been entertainment to people like her.The woman now standing in diamonds as the long-lost Jones heiress.Vivian felt sick immediately. “How could this be?” She kept repeating to herself. Then followed the question, “is Adrian aware?” Every calculation in her mind collapsed at once. She had bullied a woman society now wanted to worship. She had mocked the daughter of one of the most powerful families in the country. She had walked into her own funeral wearing perfume. After seeing the way the Coles were humilated, she knew her presence must not be noticed. She heard someone mention that they saw Vivian Shaw at the event, and she immediately, slowly stepped backward.Hiding. There were so many reporters at the exits that she went into hiding at a corner of t

“Hmmh hmmn." Clara cleared her throat. “There’s something else we will like to show you all.” Her parents and siblings stepped aside. A large screen lit up behind the stage, showing a beautiful childhood-themed montage. There were baby items, old family photographs, hospital records, DNA confirmation, and then a final portrait of Miranda standing beside Mr. and Mrs. Jones. It was tasteful. Emotional.Earning different emotional reactions. Then the screen changed. It displayed the names of special guests invited in recognition of families who had, in one way or another, been connected to Miranda’s journey. The Cole family name appeared. The crowd turned.Subtly at first. Then openly.Whispers sharpened.“The Coles?”“Were they not the ones who treated her badly?”“Adrian divorced the Jones heiress?”“His family must be dying inside.”“Imagine losing a woman like that.”Mrs. Cole’s fingers tightened around her clutch.“I told you coming here was a wrong idea,” She muttered.
