SASHA’S POV
Getting Roland to understand that I wasn’t the one who harmed his childhood sweetheart was like speaking to a brick.
He didn’t return home after the welcome party and neither did he pick any of my calls or read my messages.
It has been three days now. Three days of being all alone in this wide and vast mansion. Three days of not seeing my husband.
It was literally the worst three days of my life. It hurts a lot because I love Roland so much that even at the expense of my pride, I was still begging him not to divorce me.
The thought of not having him in my life anymore made my stomach churn and filled with dread.
If only Anastasia never came along, would I be living my best life with Roland?
Would he have looked at me differently like he always does with Anastasia?
Many thoughts flooded my mind and tears filled my eyes once more.
My eyes were puffy and red due to tears and even when Nina came for a visit, she was vulnerable because she couldn’t help me in any way.
While I was draped under the duvet, crying my eyes out, I heard the doorbell ring. I dragged myself out of bed, wore sunglasses to hide my puffy eyes and made my way downstairs.
Thinking it was Roland, I rushed towards the entrance door with a wide smile, but upon pushing it open, my smile fell and disappointment replaced my features.
It wasn’t Roland but a delivery boy instead.
“I was told to deliver this to you.” He handed over a file to me and brought out a pen and book. “Please sign.”
I signed the book and the delivery boy went his way, while I returned to the sitting room with trembling hands.
Could it be the divorce papers?
My stomach churned and I swallowed as I slowly unwrapped the file cover and read through the document.
DIVORCE PAPERS!
My hands holding the papers quivered and my throat ran dry instantly while my eyes watered.
I blinked severely, pushing the tears away from clouding my vision, but they fell on the divorce papers instead.
“You…..you can’t do this to me, Roland.” I muttered, my voice trailing off and my lips shaking violently like I caught a cold.
I grabbed my phone and put a call across to him, but it was sent to voicemail instead. He didn’t want to see or hear from me.
I should have signed the divorce papers immediately, but I placed them on the table, went upstairs and got dressed.
I headed towards his company with the divorce file in my hand and upon arrival, his secretary didn’t let me in.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Conrad, but my Boss told me not to let anyone in, even if you’re the one.”
The secretary struggled to stop me from going into Roland's office, but I was stronger, so I pushed past her and made my way into the office.
I stopped on my track upon seeing the sight in front of me.
Anastasia was seated on my husband’s lap, both kissing intimately.
Only then did I realize that my marriage has no redemption. It has already sunk and couldn’t be saved.
They both broke the kiss. “Why are you here?” Roland snapped, anger flashing in his eyes.
I interrupted his moment with his beloved sweetheart, of course, he was expected to snap at me.
“Here,” I raised the file in my hand, my body trembling as I took a step closer. “I came to give you this.”
Placing the file on the desk, I grabbed a pen and signed the divorce papers. “I’ve signed it.”
I slammed the divorce papers at Anastasia’s body and she yelped. “Roland, how can your Ex-wife be this shameless!” She pouted, hiding her face in the crook of his neck.
“You can’t shame the shameless. She is a shameless woman, hence she has not even an iota of shame!” His jaw ticked in anger. “And also, don’t expect any alimony from me, because I won’t be giving you a dime.”
A bitter chuckle rumbled out of my chest. “ I’ve my own company, you see. I don’t need your alimony.” I said proudly, but they both burst into laughter, making me a bit confused.
“Your company? So you don’t know what has happened to your said company?” Anastasia asked, drawing invincible circles on Roland’s neck.
“What?” I muttered as a sudden fear overwhelmed me.
“Your company has gone down the drain and I bet your investors have pulled out their funds.” She continued. “You see, the guest from the welcome party posted videos of what happened and your company’s stocks plummeted, so your investors pulled out.”
I shook my head, refusing to believe her words. Anastasia is a snake and her words are filled with venomous lies and mischievous intentions, so believing her was like making a fool of myself. “I don’t believe you.”
“And I don’t expect you to believe me either,” she laughed, kissing Roland on his lips. “Thank you for returning the title of ‘Mrs. Conrad’ to me. It is well appreciated.”
Before I could say a word, my phone rang. It was a call from Nina and I wasted no more than a second in picking up the call.
“There’s a big problem, Sasha. The investors are pulling out and our staff are leaving.”
My heart sank and my legs wobbled on the ground.
“Be careful not to fall on your way out!” I could hear the mockery in Anastasia’s voice as I rushed out of Roland’s office, making my way to my company.
Upon arrival, everyone was gone, except Nina, who was waiting for me to return.
“What happened?” I asked, my throat clogged and my voice strained.
“A video of you hurting Anastasia was uploaded and her fans went all out for her and now, our stocks have plummeted and investors pulled out. The staff also packed up and left.”
My legs couldn’t support my weight any longer, and I fell on the cold ground, unable to breath.
“You have to be strong, Sasha. I suspect your stepmother and stepsister have a hand in this. They coerced the investors into pulling out, while Anastasia did the rest,” Nina explained. “They went all out to ruin you.”
“My stepmother and stepsister? Haven’t they done enough by taking all my grandfather’s possessions from me? Why?” I wailed, uncontrollable tears leaving my already puffy eyes.
“I don’t know, Sasha, but all I have to say is; be strong and bounce back up.” Nina encouraged me.
“I will get my revenge, I promise.” Wiping the tears from my eyes, I rose to my feet, my gaze filled with sudden determination and vengeance. “But to get my revenge, I need a backup. A powerful force.”
AUTHOR’S POVAnastasia lingered by the window, her ears perked as she listened to the conversation between Roland and his mother. It didn’t take a genius to know that Eleanor Conrad wasn’t her biggest fan.And she had sabotaged herself the moment she had failed to act accordingly like the girl that was expected of her. A dark smile formed on her lips, If they refused their union, then she would have no other choice but to move on to the next plan. Her hand touched her stomach, gently rubbing it as she nursed the thought that played at the back of her mind. “They can’t deny their heir would they?”“Anastasia?” Petal’s voice echoed smoothly through the room, her soft blue eyes staring at her as if she was trying to analyse her. “I didn’t hear you come in,”Anastasia smiled, “Sorry, just couldn’t help but admire the garden,” she said, moving away from the window to hide what she was truly doing.“Come on, we need to talk,” Petal said.Anastasia’s heart dropped her eyes widening in shock
ROLAND’S POV“Roland!”I jumped up from bed, my eyes wide in alert, “What, what?” looking around searching for the danger that was coming.“You have to see this,” Maya said, rushing into the room with a smile on her face.Anastasia groaned, using the pillow as a wedge to muffle out our voices, “Keep it down Maya, you shouldn’t be in here this early,”If Maya heard her, she made no move to reply, her eyes were fixed on the phone with a large grin plastered on her face.“Roland, Noah Beck’s world is on fire,” she said.“What!”My eyes widened as I looked at the news flashing across her screen, “When did this happen?”“Just a few minutes ago,” she replied, sounding as excited as I was.Anastasia rolled out of bed, “What is going on?” she grumbled.“A story is going about Noah Beck’s company having a hand in an insider trading,” she explained. This was better than good, this meant that the whole world was about to witness as the great Noah beck grumbles to the ground.“Does this mean that
NOAH’S POVThe world was burning to ashes, and news channels carried the story of the supposed leak that came from my office.Matt stood by the corner, worry lines etched on his face as he watched the analyst try to explain my downfall to the other news reporters. This was the chaos that I wanted. No one understands the beauty that comes in the chaos, no one sees the pain before the pleasure.“You are about to crash the stock market you know that?” Arthur said, his eyes fixed on the television.I smiled, “The matriarch wanted to see me fall, isn’t this the way forward?”Arthur sighed; he was a strategist, just like me, but I could see it in his eyes that he wasn’t agreeing with my crude method of things.“What do you plan to do when you debunk the story?” he asked.“Nothing, when I make a major investment, the world wouldn’t remember what had happened a few weeks ago, right now, Petal Conrad has to enjoy her few seconds of fame,” I replied, pouring myself a glass of whiskey.I wasn’t
SASHA’S POVNoah Beck was gone for most of the day. But the smirk on his face before he left the house only meant one thing.Whatever he was up to, the Conrads weren't going to like it.“Sasha, you have to see this,” Nina said, drawing my attention to the phone that she held in her hands.I was getting to hate that sentence every time she said it, “What is going on again?”She stared at me like she was unsure what to say, “Nina!” I groaned. The suspense isn’t going to change the fact that something horrible has happened and as usual we were at the blunt end of it.“Noah Beck is he here?” she asked.Gosh! If Nina doesn’t talk I’m the next twenty minutes I am going to break her head, and just maybe a few bones.“Nina, you have to get on with it, Noah isn’t here,” I hissed.“Here,” she said, handing the phone to me.I gasped, my fingers trembling as I stared at the bold letters flashing on the screen.INTERNAL BREACH IN THE BECK HOLDINGS. AUTHOR’S POVBACK AT THE CONRAD RESIDENCEThe house was wrapped in silence, but Petal’s mind was a thunderstorm. The vents of the week played through her mind. She had gone over to pay Sasha a visit, it was a move of intimidation. It would have worked, but Roland and his partner just had to make moves that they shouldn't have. And now, they were barely breathing from the ship that was slowly sinking.Eleanor walked into the room, her eyes soft as she stared at the matriarch, The woman may not be her biggest fan, but she needed to make sure that she was always on her good side.“What are we going to do? The board, if they see this…” Eleanor paused, her voice caught in her throat as she feared the worst that would come.“The board won't do a thing, I will talk to them. As far as they know, Sasha Beck and Noah Beck are trying so hard to sabotage the Conrad family,” she said. She knew that those words wouldn’t hold, nor would they calm the storm that would come. But it would buy time, tha
NOAH’S POVThe best tool in warfare was fear. And now, the Conrad empire was crippled with it.“Good,” I muttered, ending the call immediately. Matt stared at me with confusion etched on his face as he waited to hear what I had to say.“Get the board of directors. I need them to put a little pressure on the empire,” I said with a broad smile on my face. The difference between me and the Conrad was that I played the long game, the one that looks like a pebble being thrown into water, but the ripple effect is one thing they can't run from.Making that video was Roland’s biggest mistake and I wanted them to know that.“What should I tell them,” Matt asked.“Make them frown about the news and the bad press going around Roland Conrad, and as a suggestion for the disaster that he is causing the company, play along the lines of investors are pulling out,” I muttered. They had no investors from their influence, everything that they currently own has been curated by me.
