SASHA’S POV
I’ve never been caught off guard more than I was at the moment. Noah Beck’s words made my jaw drop, eyes widened and brows creased.
Looking into his eyes, I searched for any sign of a joke or faking, but I found none.
This man was damn serious!
“Are you for real?” I craned my neck, my brain foggy and unable to process his words fully.
His lips paused into a thin line and the darkness in his eyes threatened to swallow me whole. “As real as the benefits you’ll gain.”
Great, his reply threw me off guard also.
Why does everything about this intolerable and insufferable billionaire throw me off guard?
“Do you realize I just got divorced? What kind of woman will society call me if I get married to you the same day I got divorced?”
It might not be important to him, because I could swear Noah Beck doesn’t giving a flying fuck about anyone, but I do.
Despite all I had faced when I was married to Roland, I wouldn’t want to go through that phase in a more cruel way, this time.
Getting married to Noah Beck, my Ex-husband’s step-brother, would definitely ruin my already dying image.
“Unfortunately, the timing is irrelevant, our agreement is what’s important.” Noah Beck replied, his eyes empty, without any care in the world.
And did I ever mention that his nonchalant attitude irks me the most?
“The timing is relevant to me,” I gritted, trying my best not to smack his face.
I knew from the very beginning that meeting Noah Beck for help was the greatest mistake I’ve ever made, but I gave him the benefit of doubt and as always, he never failed to disappoint me.
“I’m sorry for wasting your time, Mr. Noah. You’re a very busy man and time means money to you.” I moved back a bit, pressing my body against the car’s door, ready to leave.
His full brows creased and his eyes darkened even more. “Like you said, time means money to me,” he drawled. “You want out? Fine. But be ready to pay the price, Sasha. I’m supposed to attend a meeting involving money, so would you rather pay instead?”
At that moment, I was already regretting my decision. “And how much is it?”
I knew I was broke. A broke divorce woman with no place to lay her head, yet, she was being arrogant towards a billionaire. Isn’t that ridiculous?
He smirked, the closest I’ve ever seen him to a smile. “Are you sure you can afford it? From what I know, you’re a broke divorced woman with no home to return to.”
I hate that he knew me too well, but that didn’t stop me from being arrogant. Like I had it all. “I’m also a busy woman, Noah Beck. How much is it?”
“Fifty million dollars.”
He said it in the most calmest voice I’ve ever heard, yet, it sounded like a gust of heavy wind slammed against the side of my face. “Fi……fifty million?”
While I was busy fighting against my tongue on what to say next. Whether an apology or a promise of payment in installments, I heard a chuckle and upon turning around, I was amused.
Noah Beck sure has a beautiful smile. It was my first time witnessing it.
“Cat got your tongue?” With a raised eyebrow, his lips stretched into an arrogant smirk, wiping off the beautiful smile that once mesmerized me. “Mrs. Conrad…. Sorry, Sasha Hawkins, are you willing to pay?”
I bit my lower lips, almost drawing out blood as I weighed my options.
Paying a whopping fifty million or signing a contract marriage?
After thinking for a bit longer than usual, thanks to Noah’s patience, I opted for the second option. I was already a scorned Ex-wife, a shameless woman who didn’t think of her pride when she begged her Ex-husband not to divorce her.
At this point, I had nothing to lose and like Roland said earlier today, I’m a shameless woman and for that, you can’t shame the shameless.
I took a deep breath, hoping I won’t eventually regret my decision. “Let’s do it.” I muttered, my voice barely audible.
“Louder please. I want to make sure the contract reflects your enthusiasm.”
“You!” I gritted, glaring at Noah whose lips stretched into a lopsided smile.
He was smiling constantly at me which was in fact making me uncomfortable and feeling weird.
Noah Beck, as I’ve known him for three years, hates me and my guts. He thought I got married to his step-brother because of money, hence the hatred, but at this moment, he was smiling so brightly, like we were never enemies.
“Okay fine!” I surrendered, heaving a sigh. “Let’s do it. Let’s get married, after all I’m desperate and shameless.”
I was sad my situation threw me under the bus with no option but to seek help from my Ex-husband’s step-brother. I hate the fact that I was still tied around Roland and his sweetheart, hence, I would be seeing them often.
But fortunately, my desperation for revenge and survival outweighs everything else.
“Great. The contract will be ready by tomorrow. Come over to my company.” He tugged on his seat belt and wore his dark shade. “We will sign the contract, get married in the city hall and then you move in with me.”
My brows creased and my throat strained as I shouted in horror. “Move in with you? Why?”
“Why would my wife live somewhere else? Are you aware that our marriage would be announced publicly? And also, Roland and his followers would try to dig in further to know if we are really married.”
It was the longest I’ve heard Noah Beck speak, but I was too shocked to dwell on that fact. “I can be more careful.”
Noah Beck grabbed his phone, scrolling through it like what I just said meant nothing to him.
This was his way of letting me know that it wasn’t up for argument. “See you tomorrow, Sasha Hawkins. Try not to get bald tonight and get a good sleep. I wouldn’t want to see my wife without any hair and dark circles under her eyes.”
Heat crept its way up my cheeks at his words. “I’m not your wife.” I glared.
“You’ll be. By tomorrow.”
AUTHOR’S POVAnastasia lingered by the window, her ears perked as she listened to the conversation between Roland and his mother. It didn’t take a genius to know that Eleanor Conrad wasn’t her biggest fan.And she had sabotaged herself the moment she had failed to act accordingly like the girl that was expected of her. A dark smile formed on her lips, If they refused their union, then she would have no other choice but to move on to the next plan. Her hand touched her stomach, gently rubbing it as she nursed the thought that played at the back of her mind. “They can’t deny their heir would they?”“Anastasia?” Petal’s voice echoed smoothly through the room, her soft blue eyes staring at her as if she was trying to analyse her. “I didn’t hear you come in,”Anastasia smiled, “Sorry, just couldn’t help but admire the garden,” she said, moving away from the window to hide what she was truly doing.“Come on, we need to talk,” Petal said.Anastasia’s heart dropped her eyes widening in shock
ROLAND’S POV“Roland!”I jumped up from bed, my eyes wide in alert, “What, what?” looking around searching for the danger that was coming.“You have to see this,” Maya said, rushing into the room with a smile on her face.Anastasia groaned, using the pillow as a wedge to muffle out our voices, “Keep it down Maya, you shouldn’t be in here this early,”If Maya heard her, she made no move to reply, her eyes were fixed on the phone with a large grin plastered on her face.“Roland, Noah Beck’s world is on fire,” she said.“What!”My eyes widened as I looked at the news flashing across her screen, “When did this happen?”“Just a few minutes ago,” she replied, sounding as excited as I was.Anastasia rolled out of bed, “What is going on?” she grumbled.“A story is going about Noah Beck’s company having a hand in an insider trading,” she explained. This was better than good, this meant that the whole world was about to witness as the great Noah beck grumbles to the ground.“Does this mean that
NOAH’S POVThe world was burning to ashes, and news channels carried the story of the supposed leak that came from my office.Matt stood by the corner, worry lines etched on his face as he watched the analyst try to explain my downfall to the other news reporters. This was the chaos that I wanted. No one understands the beauty that comes in the chaos, no one sees the pain before the pleasure.“You are about to crash the stock market you know that?” Arthur said, his eyes fixed on the television.I smiled, “The matriarch wanted to see me fall, isn’t this the way forward?”Arthur sighed; he was a strategist, just like me, but I could see it in his eyes that he wasn’t agreeing with my crude method of things.“What do you plan to do when you debunk the story?” he asked.“Nothing, when I make a major investment, the world wouldn’t remember what had happened a few weeks ago, right now, Petal Conrad has to enjoy her few seconds of fame,” I replied, pouring myself a glass of whiskey.I wasn’t
SASHA’S POVNoah Beck was gone for most of the day. But the smirk on his face before he left the house only meant one thing.Whatever he was up to, the Conrads weren't going to like it.“Sasha, you have to see this,” Nina said, drawing my attention to the phone that she held in her hands.I was getting to hate that sentence every time she said it, “What is going on again?”She stared at me like she was unsure what to say, “Nina!” I groaned. The suspense isn’t going to change the fact that something horrible has happened and as usual we were at the blunt end of it.“Noah Beck is he here?” she asked.Gosh! If Nina doesn’t talk I’m the next twenty minutes I am going to break her head, and just maybe a few bones.“Nina, you have to get on with it, Noah isn’t here,” I hissed.“Here,” she said, handing the phone to me.I gasped, my fingers trembling as I stared at the bold letters flashing on the screen.INTERNAL BREACH IN THE BECK HOLDINGS. AUTHOR’S POVBACK AT THE CONRAD RESIDENCEThe house was wrapped in silence, but Petal’s mind was a thunderstorm. The vents of the week played through her mind. She had gone over to pay Sasha a visit, it was a move of intimidation. It would have worked, but Roland and his partner just had to make moves that they shouldn't have. And now, they were barely breathing from the ship that was slowly sinking.Eleanor walked into the room, her eyes soft as she stared at the matriarch, The woman may not be her biggest fan, but she needed to make sure that she was always on her good side.“What are we going to do? The board, if they see this…” Eleanor paused, her voice caught in her throat as she feared the worst that would come.“The board won't do a thing, I will talk to them. As far as they know, Sasha Beck and Noah Beck are trying so hard to sabotage the Conrad family,” she said. She knew that those words wouldn’t hold, nor would they calm the storm that would come. But it would buy time, tha
NOAH’S POVThe best tool in warfare was fear. And now, the Conrad empire was crippled with it.“Good,” I muttered, ending the call immediately. Matt stared at me with confusion etched on his face as he waited to hear what I had to say.“Get the board of directors. I need them to put a little pressure on the empire,” I said with a broad smile on my face. The difference between me and the Conrad was that I played the long game, the one that looks like a pebble being thrown into water, but the ripple effect is one thing they can't run from.Making that video was Roland’s biggest mistake and I wanted them to know that.“What should I tell them,” Matt asked.“Make them frown about the news and the bad press going around Roland Conrad, and as a suggestion for the disaster that he is causing the company, play along the lines of investors are pulling out,” I muttered. They had no investors from their influence, everything that they currently own has been curated by me.
