•Juliet’s POV•

I smiled, my gaze fixed on James. “You’re welcome.” I looked away from his gaze toward Vera, who seemed to be staring a little too hard at him.

She looked at me once more and mouthed, “Jeez, he is hot.”

I let out a slight laugh as I helped myself to the vegetables and turkey, picking a little from each of the dishes onto my plate. I glanced in Jace’s direction, and he seemed focused on his food, nowhere near as cheerful as he was when he first saw James. I wondered why.

The dinner went on, with James sharing a few stories about his family dinners, ones he enjoyed as a kid. He even tried to talk to Jace, but received a stiff response as Jace just looked at him without a word.

After dinner, Mrs. Carl cleared the table, Vera took Jace to his room, and Eric kept eyeing James suspiciously before he excused himself and left the kitchen.

“I think we should go out for some fresh air. What do you think?” James said with a smirk, walking over to take my hand.
