"Jace, sweetheart, how was school today?" I said as I sat in the car next to him, brushing his hair slightly before placing a soft kiss on his forehead.

He smiled. "Mommy, where's Aunt Vera?"

"Aunt Vera?" I echoed. At the mention of her name, realizing I hadn’t seen Vera since the conference meeting. A small worry crept into my chest. "Oh, baby, Aunt Vera had something important to handle. That’s why she isn’t here."

Jace nodded softly, and I pulled out his mini tab. "How about you watch that latest Baby Shark video while I call her?"

He collected the tab from me, his little fingers already tapping away at the screen. I looked toward Eric, who was driving. "Eric, do you know where Vera went to?"

"Yes, Miss Ryder," he replied. "I saw her leave after the meeting. She said one of her clients from London came to New York, and she went to see him."
