ISABELLA.
I pulled over at the parking lot of the lounge I had agreed to meet with Bruce, and I parked beside a Ford truck which I suspected to be his. As though to prove me right, the driver’s door of the truck went open, and Bruce alighted and began walking towards my car. He got to the passenger door and knocked twice on the window, before he opened the door and settled in.
“You were late. I almost thought all of this was a facade,” Bruce said as he closed the door after him.
“Funny that you think I flew all the way to Texas for a facade,” I said, chuckling dryly.
“Still doesn’t change the fact that you were more than thirty minutes late. I have other important things to do, for God’s sake,” He fired.
“Oh please, spare me the details,” I snapped angrily, holding up a hand to his face. “I was the one
FREDA.I hadn’t always believed in love. Hell, I detested the word with everything in me and I wanted to have absolutely nothing to do with the word and whatever it entailed. I’d been steadfast in my chosen path, staying away from guys as much as I could and warding off every single guy that showed interest in me, till that warm evening in October, the very day Bruce walked into my life.I had met Bruce Blake back in college, at the birthday party of a mutual friend of ours. I’d been sitting and chatting with a few friends for more than half the duration of the party, when I saw a tall, charming figure walk towards us. I was sure to notify my friends of the incoming intrusion, knowing that he was one of those guys who usually made passes at ladies in parties such as the one I had attended that evening, but I was shocked to my bones when this tall figure ignored everyone else seated on the couch I was on, and walked directly
DEVAN.Throughout the rest of that week, my mind became constantly preoccupied with thoughts of Clarissa. Every single minute spent with her on the day of the charity gala felt magical, and by the time she was ready to leave, I wasn’t able to restrain myself from pulling her into my arms for a tight hug. In the days that followed, memories of our time together back in college came flooding my mind, and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t stop thinking about her. In a bid to distract myself from thoughts of her, I began to devise ways to execute the idea we had both agreed on earlier, and after minutes of deep thought, I smiled to myself as my mind began to cook up something.I jumped up from my slouched position on the couch in the living room, where I’d been seeing a movie, and I dashed towards the stairs, sprinting nonstop till I got seated in my study, a small cubicle which I’d carved out of my extrem

CLARISSA.I sat quietly through most of the event, observing the proceedings while my mind rummaged with lots of thoughts. When the donations began, I made an anonymous huge deposit on behalf of my father, not wanting to attract any attention to myself and by the end of the event, I was so exhausted. Just as the vote of thanks was being said, Devan turned to me, reaching for my hand. He did that often now and even though I wasn’t so comfortable with it, I didn’t resist either.“You okay? You look extremely tired,” he said.“I am extremely tired, Dev. Extremely, very tired,” I replied, letting out an exhausted sigh. “All I want to do right now is get to my bed. I wish I could just disappear.”“Well, I could get you Aladdin’s carpet,” he said, winking at me and I found myself blushing effortlessly.“You&r
DEVAN.I had missed Clarissa's party due to an urgent meeting I had to attend, but not one second went past without me thinking about her. Every hour I spent sitting through the meeting I attended and every hour I spent sitting through the flight back home had my mind filled with thoughts of her, so much that I began to feel I was going crazy. Seated now at this event, I wondered what it would be like to see her walk through the door as an attendee. The charity gala was an event that was held once every year, one that always had top businessmen and CEOs in attendance. So when I saw Clarissa moving through the rows of arranged seats, probably looking to get a seat that would give her a good view of the proceedings of the event, I smiled widely to myself, feeling a sudden rush of excitement in my veins.“Devan?” she called out, a look of surprise on her face. I got up from my seat and began to walk casually towards her.“Hello, Rissa,” I said just as I got to her.“Hey!” she said, rushi
CLARISSA.I sat slouched on the armchair in my room, feeling extremely tired after my father's birthday party. The party had ended three hours back, and while the guests had begun to troop out one after the other, I joined my father in speaking with the guests who still lingered around, appreciating them for honoring my invitation. Isabella was nowhere to be found, and after my dad had retired for the night and the last of the guests had left, I joined the domestic staff in cleaning and clearing up the whole place, till the living room was organized and spotlessly clean, as always.A text came into my phone just as I began taking my shoes off, and I let out a sigh as I stared at my feet, sore from hours of standing and walking around. I picked up my phone and unlocked it, reclining further into the chair and yawning. I was extremely tired and felt so exhausted, and I lazily tapped on my inbox to see that the message had been from Devan.
