Mag-log inNavie stood her hands holding her swollen belly. The air was heavy with the scent of lilies and the faint hum of people, paying their respects. Her mother’s casket rested before her, draped in pristine white, and her heart ached as if a part of her had been ripped away.
Reid stood beside her, hands clasped stiffly in front of him. He looked the part of a grieving husband but inside, every fiber of him resisted. He only come because her mother’s death would’ve made headlines if he didn't. Because the press would have given him a hard time. ,
”Reid Andros didn’t stand beside his grieving wife.”
He had a company to inherit, and his public image mattered a lot right now.
He had never loved Navie. His father had forced this marriage upon him, he planned to make her bear his heir. That heir was the only thing he truly cared about; once he secured his father’s company, the divorce would follow.
His eyes, stormy and unreadable, flicked toward Navie as she dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief. She looked fragile, broken but then he felt a pang of concern. He looked away instantly.
She’s just carrying the heir. That’s all that matters. Not her feelings. Not her pain. She means nothing to me.
He shifted, uncomfortable with her sorrow, and thought of the business meeting he had in the next twenty minutes and the he would leave. Perfect.
Suddenly, he felt a pair of piercing eyes shooting daggers at him, he turned to see his father glaring at him. Reid looked away instantly, he already caught the message in the glare.
He exhaled sharply, hesitant and slow, he put his arm around her, rubbing her arm in comfort.
Navie got taken aback with the gesture, it brought fresh tears to her eyes. Reid would never. His touch felt like a shelter in the blazing sun. She melted and laid her head on his chest. Instinctively, Reid relaxed and wrapped his other arm around her. Every doubt of his emotions left and he felt his guard go down involuntarily. Their moment cut short when Reid's phone rang.
His phone buzzed. He exhaled sharply and lifted the device to his ear.
“Where are you?” Bianca demanded, her voice soft and lost.
“I don’t know the way. You need to come get me.”
He gritted his teeth. Perfect. Just what I needed.
“Fine. I’ll be there in five,” he replied, already plotting the fastest route. He had no intention of letting Navie know where he was going. But Navie already saw the caller ID and froze. Bianca’s name on the screen made her chest tighten. Her mind raced: Why is she calling Reid? What does she want? But then again, she tried to convince herself that Bianca is just her husband's friend.
Minutes later, the funeral ended. People lingered to offer condolences, but Navie felt empty. Reid already gave a polite nod to her acquaintances and stepped away. He had not return since.
Then came the message from Bianca. Navie’s phone buzzed in her hand. She glanced at it, her stomach twisting. “Come to the parking lot. We’re here.”
She went out of the cemetery, she gripped the railing of the building's steps as she made her way down. Her mind raced with possibilities, why was Bianca calling her to the parking lot and she said "we".
We? Is she with Reid?
Her feet froze at the edge of the driveway. Ahead, the scene awaited, something she could not yet comprehend. The sunlight glinted off the polished surfaces, casting sharp reflections across the asphalt.
But nothing could outshine the scene before her. She blinked, trying to process the world around her, every nerve screaming.
Her chest tightened. Her breath caught. And then, a sudden sense of impending disaster hit her. The kind that made the skin on her arms prickle and her stomach churn.
The next moments would change everything.
Navie stopped breathing.
For a moment, everything blurred, the faint chatter from the distance, even the ache in her chest, all of it melted into one crushing silence.
Bianca and Reid stood close. Too close.
Bianca's hand curled behind his neck, drawing him down. His hand was on her waist. They kissed out there in the open without any shame. He didn’t see her. He didn’t even turn
He just left, slipping into his car and dove away.
And Navie… she couldn’t move.
Her heart pounded, her vision dimmed, and a sharp pain tore through her abdomen. She clutched at her stomach, gasping.
No. Not now.
But the pain spread fast, waves of agony breaking through her body. Her knees buckled, and she staggered backwards. She whimpered and leaned painfully against a nearby car, her breath came out in sharp takes. Bianca rushed to her.
“Oh dear,” Bianca said softly, crouching down. “You don’t look so good.”
Navie tried to speak, but the pain stole her breath. “Why…?”
Bianca tilted her head, her tone almost kind. “You shouldn’t have come so fast, Navie. Some things are better left unseen.”
A tear slipped down Navie’s cheek. “You—”
“Me?” Bianca smiled faintly. “I didn’t steal him. He just came back to where he belongs.”
Navie shook her head weakly, clutching her stomach tighter. “You’re lying…”
Bianca sighed, brushing imaginary dust from her skirt. “You really believed he would love?” Her voice lowered.
“He told me himself. Reid doesn't love you and he never would.”, she spat, her words laced with venom.
Navie’s breath hitched. Bianca turned two before her, darkness began to blur her vision. Her eyes closed as she lost consciousness. Bianca stood up and glared down at her.
“You should’ve taken the car I sent that day,” Bianca added, eyes glinting. “At least that would have been faster than this.”
Bianca straightened, her smile calm and flawless. “Don’t worry. Reid won’t remember you for long.”
And then she turned, leaving Navie trembling on the cold asphalt, pain rolling through her body like fire.
“Navie! Are you okay? Are you okay?”, Bianca yelled, her face etched in worry. Then she burst into malicious laughter.
Just as expected, a small voice rang from the open doorway.“Mom....Dada… look. I saved you a blueberry from Switzerland!”Vida’s innocent, tone shattered the pretense, and Jacintha broke off the hug but Reid wouldn't let her go. He spun around to face, his hand resting firmly on her waist. Reid’s eyes softened slightly as he looked at the tiny figure waving a blueberry at them. He removed his hand from Jacintha's waist, opening it wide for a hug. Vida didn't hesitate, she ran into it. Reid caught and threw her in the air. Vida erupted in excited laughter. Jacintha couldn't help but smile. He continued to play with her while she giggled loudly. He tickled her while cradling her in his arms. Steadying her to face him, he arranged her hair.“Did you save one for us? Isn't that so sweet of you?” Vida nodded, “It's the biggest one! Mommy, come take a bite and share with Dad.” She raised the blueberry towards her mother.Jacintha smiled faintly, stepping closer, she held Vida's outstre
The three estranged family members sat round the table. The dining table was set neatly, plates arranged with care, cutlery gleaming, and the small vase of white lilies in the center of the table, a stark contrast to the storm looming above the. Vida sat in her high chair, her legs swinging gently as she poked at the breakfast Jacintha had prepared. This is not the breakfast she had in mind, this is not the breakfast she wanted to enjoy with her mom and dad. Jacintha sat beside her, the table was deathly silent. The maids that brought more food and arranged the cutleries were too careful to make a noise. They knew too well of what was going on. When they left, Vida sighed. Jacintha glanced at her. She caressed her head.“Baby what's wrong? Do you want Mommy to feed you? Should mommy carry you?” Her thumb stroked Vida's small cheek softly.Vida looked up and smiled faintly.“No mommy, Vida will eat herself.” Her tiny voice warmed Jacintha's heart. “Okay sweetie”, a sweet smile sprea
“Ahh!” A sharp gasp that broke into a scream escaped her lips as she stumbled backwards. Her hands broke free from her knees into the air, her balance slipped—Harry's head shot up from his palm, reaching for her on instinct.“Kenzie—”His hand caught her wrist, but instead of holding her in place, she dragged him down with her. The office suddenly titled as they tumbled backwards. Harry landed above her.Too close.Time stalled. His hands were braced on either side of her, his weight held back just enough. Her palms pressed flat against his chest, feeling the solid rise and fall beneath her fingers. Their breaths tangled. They stared into each other's eyes. Seconds flew by. Heavy and unspoken emotions sparked in the air between them. His gaze flicked to her lips before snapping back to her eyes. Her heart hammered loud enough she was sure he could hear it.Then reality rushed back in all at once.Kenzie broke the eye contact, her head snapped to the side, blinking rapidly. Harry sc
Kenzie's brows dropped in boredom, she blinked lazily, locking eyes with Estelle. “I have somewhere to be ma'am”, She lifted her hand, checking the time on her watch. She turned and left, chin raised in pride. She didn't bow to the General Director. The President's assistant didn't bow to the General Director, the employees would have a field day.A rage so bitter she could taste it burnt Estelle's throat. She clenched her fists, her breath coming out in slow, angry takes. How dare she?! How dare she disrespect her like that? An assistant humiliating the general director. A lowly assistant! Jacintha's assistant has got some nerves! The employees kept their head low, not wanting to be her next target, one of them jabbed the other slightly. They exchanged glances, thousands of gossip for later discussion exchanged in that one glance. Estelle turned her gaze to them. The sight of them, keeping their heads low, infuriated her further. She stomped her foot on the marble floor. They fl
While Jacintha and Reid were pulling the strings of their estranged family together, Andros Group was in chaos. It has been two days since word got out that Vida is Reid and Jacintha's daughter. The tabloids tailed them but couldn't get the location of the hospital Vida was taken to. The media was having a field day. And that field day was like a bad hair day for Andros Group.Throughout the lobby, phone calls rang out, interns and receptionist went up and down answering them. “No comments.”“We have no comments on that.”“We will release an official statement soon.”“We have no idea about that.”“No comments.”Estelle, as the General Director, announced an emergency meeting. The assistants of the President and Vice-President were present, the most important figures and subject of scrutiny was absent. Both Reid and Jacintha were not picking calls. The meeting room was quiet, everyone stared at the files in front of them. The silence heavy, they were all tired. They had to manage heav
When they exited the doctor's office, the air felt heavy with thousands of questions, unspoken emotions. The silence was too loud, Jacintha sniffed, a reminder of how much she cried earlier. She followed Reid down the hallway, they reached the door of Vida's ward. He turned to her, she stopped in her tracks, glancing up at him. It is today that she just realized how tall he is, her cheeks went hot recalling how they hugged earlier. “You should go home and get some rest,” Reid said, his voice low with exhaustion. He ran a hand over his face. “I will stay with her.”For a moment, all her anger was gone, replaced with the desperation of a tired mother. But, the doctor's words echoed in her mind. “Why did the doctor say ‘biological mother’?” she asked, her voice dangerously low. “You did not... you did not put Bianca’s name on my daughter's birth certificate as her mother, did you?”Reid’s lips parted, he shook his head slowly, brows snapped together. “No! I didn’t. Bianca accompani
