MasukHours later, Navie's eyes flickered open.
When Navie woke, the ceiling above her was blindingly white, the sterile scent of antiseptic heavy in the air. Her vision blurred as she adjusted to her environment, then she suddenly recalled her babies. She tried to sit up, but a sharp ache in her abdomen forced her back down. The nurse adjusting her drip quickly assisted her back down.
Her lips trembled. “My babies… where are my babies?”
The nurse's eyes lowered to the floor and she stepped back, she glanced at her colleague. The door opened, another person in white coat joined them. The doctor was carrying a chart.
The doctor, standing at the foot of her bed, hesitated. His shoulders sagged as though the words themselves weighed him down.
“I’m… I’m sorry, Mrs Andros. The children didn’t survive, the labour was rushed and complicated. You were not due when you went into labour”.
The room spun. Her arms reached instinctively to her stomach, tears stung her vision.
“Y–You're joking right?", she sobbed, her lips trembling.
“Two of them? My babies?”.
“You are lying”. She suddenly snapped. She could have sworn she heard them cry. She had a C-section but yet she knew she heard her babies cry.
“I heard them! I heard my children!”, she yelled and say up on the bed. The doctor took a step back, frightened.
“Hold her, quick!”. But Navie was faster, she removed the needles attached to her in a frenzy and jumped off the bed but two nurses tackled her down. She felt a cold object pierce her neck and sleep took over her system.
When she woke up, she was still in the hospital. A sob ripped through her chest, but no sound came out, just raw pain. Tears streamed down her face.
“I'm sorry, Mrs Andros”, the doctor replied solemnly. The doctor gestured to the nurses and they all left the ward.
She suddenly felt Reid's absence more than ever, she wished he was by her side now, consoling her for the loss of their children, but instead he must probably....with Bianca.
She clutched her shirt and cried silently,
But now, he was gone.
Her body shook with grief. The babies she had so awaited for so long, she didn't even hear them cry.
Her mother died recently and a husband who loved her so little, he could not even wait to see her when she opened her eyes.
Meanwhile, Bianca was already panicking, she abandoned Navie in the parking lot, it was too late before she remembered there were CCTV cameras that captured the scene. She didn't know what they would do to her if they learnt she abandoned Navie in the parking lot. She bit her fingers as she paced up and down her room. She wished Navie passed away and her babies shouldn't survive either. Her phone beeped, she quickly rushed to it. She read the text message.
-I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE FOOTAGE.
She sighed in relief and sat on her bed. The phone rang again, she ran to it immediately picking it up with shaky fingers.
She sighed in relief when she heard the news.
“But how come she survived?”, the call ended.
“What a rude brat, I paid her money and she dared hang up on me”, she hissed.
“Well. Let's go pay our new mommy a visit”, she grabbed her coat and stepped out with a vicious smile.
When she reached the hospital, she met Estelle in the lobby. She rolled her eyes. Why did she have to be here right now.
Estelle frowned, what is that snake doing here. She walked up to her in an instant.
“And what do you think you are doing here?”,
“What else? I just want to console Navie”, she replied with a sassy tone, rolling her eyes.
“She has her family to do that. You can leave”, Estelle clapped back in a stern tone.
Bianca scoffed, “You can't just kick me out”.
“Oh yes I can, wanna find out?”, Estelle raised an eyebrow, asking Bianca to dare her.
“Fine!”, Bianca yelled, stamping her foot. She turned sharply, casted a glare at Estelle before stomping away in anger.
The door opened slowly, Navie turned to look at who entered. When she saw the guest, she burst into tears loudly. Estelle rushed to her side and hugged her.
“Shhh. It's okay. It's alright”, Estelle patted her back, blinking back tears.
Days later, Navie was discharged.
The mansion felt colder than before, large, empty, lifeless. She wandered through the halls like a ghost, the silence pressing against her chest.
Everywhere she looked, she saw ghosts. Her mother’s smile, her baby's cries when it was born. She doesn't even know the gender of her baby. She would sit in the nursery for hours, crying and sitting by herself. The nursery suddenly felt too loud. It also felt too silent. the nursery that would never be used.
Navie lay on the bed. It has been a week since she had been discharged. Everything had happened just too soon for her to comprehend. She spent a month in the hospital before locking herself in her room for a week.
As if her mother's death was not enough, she gave birth to twins and lost them. Her husband's betrayal only added insult to injury. The maid behind her have been standing for more minutes she didn't know of. They have brought her food again but she was too pained to eat. Bella had travelled with her family. Reid was nowhere to be found. Well, he must be probably with Bianca. Suddenly it occurred to her, did he ever care about the baby he paid attention to her for? Now that the baby was gone, naturally he might not even talk to her again.
Tears stung her eyes, but she bit them back. When the maids left, the silence was suffocating. She turned to lie on her side away from the door.
Estelle was right, Bianca is a snake. She shouldn't have trusted her.
She closed her eyes and made a decision.
I will do it. This is for my peace.
Just as expected, a small voice rang from the open doorway.“Mom....Dada… look. I saved you a blueberry from Switzerland!”Vida’s innocent, tone shattered the pretense, and Jacintha broke off the hug but Reid wouldn't let her go. He spun around to face, his hand resting firmly on her waist. Reid’s eyes softened slightly as he looked at the tiny figure waving a blueberry at them. He removed his hand from Jacintha's waist, opening it wide for a hug. Vida didn't hesitate, she ran into it. Reid caught and threw her in the air. Vida erupted in excited laughter. Jacintha couldn't help but smile. He continued to play with her while she giggled loudly. He tickled her while cradling her in his arms. Steadying her to face him, he arranged her hair.“Did you save one for us? Isn't that so sweet of you?” Vida nodded, “It's the biggest one! Mommy, come take a bite and share with Dad.” She raised the blueberry towards her mother.Jacintha smiled faintly, stepping closer, she held Vida's outstre
The three estranged family members sat round the table. The dining table was set neatly, plates arranged with care, cutlery gleaming, and the small vase of white lilies in the center of the table, a stark contrast to the storm looming above the. Vida sat in her high chair, her legs swinging gently as she poked at the breakfast Jacintha had prepared. This is not the breakfast she had in mind, this is not the breakfast she wanted to enjoy with her mom and dad. Jacintha sat beside her, the table was deathly silent. The maids that brought more food and arranged the cutleries were too careful to make a noise. They knew too well of what was going on. When they left, Vida sighed. Jacintha glanced at her. She caressed her head.“Baby what's wrong? Do you want Mommy to feed you? Should mommy carry you?” Her thumb stroked Vida's small cheek softly.Vida looked up and smiled faintly.“No mommy, Vida will eat herself.” Her tiny voice warmed Jacintha's heart. “Okay sweetie”, a sweet smile sprea
“Ahh!” A sharp gasp that broke into a scream escaped her lips as she stumbled backwards. Her hands broke free from her knees into the air, her balance slipped—Harry's head shot up from his palm, reaching for her on instinct.“Kenzie—”His hand caught her wrist, but instead of holding her in place, she dragged him down with her. The office suddenly titled as they tumbled backwards. Harry landed above her.Too close.Time stalled. His hands were braced on either side of her, his weight held back just enough. Her palms pressed flat against his chest, feeling the solid rise and fall beneath her fingers. Their breaths tangled. They stared into each other's eyes. Seconds flew by. Heavy and unspoken emotions sparked in the air between them. His gaze flicked to her lips before snapping back to her eyes. Her heart hammered loud enough she was sure he could hear it.Then reality rushed back in all at once.Kenzie broke the eye contact, her head snapped to the side, blinking rapidly. Harry sc
Kenzie's brows dropped in boredom, she blinked lazily, locking eyes with Estelle. “I have somewhere to be ma'am”, She lifted her hand, checking the time on her watch. She turned and left, chin raised in pride. She didn't bow to the General Director. The President's assistant didn't bow to the General Director, the employees would have a field day.A rage so bitter she could taste it burnt Estelle's throat. She clenched her fists, her breath coming out in slow, angry takes. How dare she?! How dare she disrespect her like that? An assistant humiliating the general director. A lowly assistant! Jacintha's assistant has got some nerves! The employees kept their head low, not wanting to be her next target, one of them jabbed the other slightly. They exchanged glances, thousands of gossip for later discussion exchanged in that one glance. Estelle turned her gaze to them. The sight of them, keeping their heads low, infuriated her further. She stomped her foot on the marble floor. They fl
While Jacintha and Reid were pulling the strings of their estranged family together, Andros Group was in chaos. It has been two days since word got out that Vida is Reid and Jacintha's daughter. The tabloids tailed them but couldn't get the location of the hospital Vida was taken to. The media was having a field day. And that field day was like a bad hair day for Andros Group.Throughout the lobby, phone calls rang out, interns and receptionist went up and down answering them. “No comments.”“We have no comments on that.”“We will release an official statement soon.”“We have no idea about that.”“No comments.”Estelle, as the General Director, announced an emergency meeting. The assistants of the President and Vice-President were present, the most important figures and subject of scrutiny was absent. Both Reid and Jacintha were not picking calls. The meeting room was quiet, everyone stared at the files in front of them. The silence heavy, they were all tired. They had to manage heav
When they exited the doctor's office, the air felt heavy with thousands of questions, unspoken emotions. The silence was too loud, Jacintha sniffed, a reminder of how much she cried earlier. She followed Reid down the hallway, they reached the door of Vida's ward. He turned to her, she stopped in her tracks, glancing up at him. It is today that she just realized how tall he is, her cheeks went hot recalling how they hugged earlier. “You should go home and get some rest,” Reid said, his voice low with exhaustion. He ran a hand over his face. “I will stay with her.”For a moment, all her anger was gone, replaced with the desperation of a tired mother. But, the doctor's words echoed in her mind. “Why did the doctor say ‘biological mother’?” she asked, her voice dangerously low. “You did not... you did not put Bianca’s name on my daughter's birth certificate as her mother, did you?”Reid’s lips parted, he shook his head slowly, brows snapped together. “No! I didn’t. Bianca accompani
