Dave looked down and nodded slowly. “Okay, Mommy.”

“Good boy.” I patted his head, sighing in relief at the same time.

Convincing him to go wasn’t so difficult, except changing his views about Maya. Hopefully, the woman won’t do anything that will justify Dave’s perception of her and make things worse.

As it turned out, my worry was for nothing.

When we arrived at the hospital and I took him to Maya’s Ward, the usual glare the woman would always welcome me with was no more.

A mix of confusion and shock took over her expression as she struggled to sit up on the bed.

“Be careful.” I gently supported her arm, helping her sit properly. She had a heart surgery not long ago. Any rigorous movement could affect the muscles.

However, it seemed like Maya didn’t even care about her body, her watery eyes fixed on Dave. “Am- Am I dreaming? Were you the one who brought him, Olivia?”

“Didn’t I promise to bring him?”

“W- Well, I thought you were bluffing- I even thought that I misinterpreted wha

For a split second, her eyes flashed with horror. She broke eye contact, knelt, and picked up the folder from the floor, her hand trembling. And then she turned around and hurried away. That was strange. What’s wrong with her?But I soon forgot Cora’s weird behaviour the moment they wheeled Theo out of the emergency room. Due to the medication's effect, he was asleep now. In the VIP Ward, I sat on the chair beside his bed, unable to tear my gaze off his bandaged arm. This is a fatal accident. How long is it gonna take for him to heal? How’s this not going to hinder our mission?Urgh! Should I be thinking about the mission now? We’ve already made some progress; besides, his well-being comes first. I blew out a sigh, wishing I could reverse time. I would have run somewhere else instead of the bathroom. I wouldn’t have locked the door. “Mr. Wellington is out of danger now, Ma’am…” One of the bodyguards came inside. “How about you go home and change? We will look after him.”Right. I

For a second, I forgot how to breathe. Not because I wanted this… but because I couldn’t tell if I didn’t.And yet… I didn’t push him away. Not this time. Why’s this happening to me? What’s wrong with my body?Theo pulled away, leaning his forehead against mine, his breathing ragged. “Please don’t hate me, Olivia. I was blinded and foolish in the past…” He breathed sharply. “...Please give me another chance.”I balled my fingers, closing my eyes not to see his eyes, not to be fooled by the emotions swirling in them. “I hate you…” And myself too for being so weak and vulnerable. He’s the only man I’ve ever hated this much… because I once loved him more than anything. A love that was never meant to exist. A love born out of his grandfather’s master plan. Silence.Only his shaky breath echoed in the bathroom. A minute and then two… he didn’t react or pull away, releasing me from the trap of his presence. Then something dropped. A heavy, warm liquid on my shoulder. It dropped continuo

I gulped, dazed for a moment as flashes of memories resurfaced. His strong hand was firmly on my waist. My heart was racing wildly as if it would burst. The whispers of his voice, low and deep, as he drove me to ecstasy that night!I shivered inside, my nerves jolting at his touch, lost in the depth of his eyes holding warmth and desire. I pushed him away and took to my heels. With no sense of direction, I found myself back inside the Villa, in the guest room’s bathroom. No!This isn’t right.Theo is just lying. There’s no way he knows me better than I do. I definitely do not– and will never love him again.I staggered forward and supported both hands on the sink, staring at my horror-filled expression in the mirror. What happened just now? What were those memories about? Of all things, why did I have to remember the first and only intimate night we shared? I splashed my face with water, taking in a deep breath to calm my erratic heartbeat. This has to stop. I can’t remain here

A wedding? My mouth fell open. He wanted a wedding. In public. With Theo. On the same day as Tania’s?This plan was spinning faster than I could keep up. And I was the one being spun.“Isn’t that too early, Grandpa?” Theo replied, seemingly shocked as well. “What do you mean? Have you guys not been married before?” His grandfather grumbled. “Or do you plan to just use her like before and then discard her for someone like that silly girl, Jessica, again?”“That’s not what I mean…”“Give Olivia the phone,” His grandfather commanded. Theo nudged the phone towards me, staring at me cautiously. He mouthed, ‘Say yes…” Even before his grandfather asked the question. “Don’t you think a wedding is the best way he can prove his sincerity, Dear?” His grandfather asked. I bit my lips. “Of course, Grandpa. If Theo doesn’t give me a wedding, I’m leaving for good.”“Great!” The old man chuckled. “He should be grateful that you forgave him. Otherwise, I’ve planned never to let him enter my quarte

Theo dropped his fork and gave me a helpless look. “I’ve run out of ideas. What else do you suggest?”Honestly, I’ve run out of ideas too.His plan seems to be the only feasible one, but I can’t be seen together with him. The public will continue speaking about it even after this ends, and that can cause a lot of misunderstandings, especially in my workplace. “Can’t we just go to him and declare that we’re back together?” I groaned, supporting my cheeks with both hands.Because that’s the only option left right now. And if we’re lucky, he might believe us and not get suspicious. “You know that’s not gonna work…” Theo replied. “Grandpa can’t be fooled easily.”I sighed. Does that mean I’ll have to agree to his other plan?Time is running out, and my desperation only increases. Yet, I can’t bring myself to agree to his plan… But my son.“Olivia…” Theo called out, his voice unusually soft, the vulnerability in his eyes returning. “I won’t force you to do anything against your wish. …The Next Morning.Olivia’s POV.I woke up, expecting aches all over my body due to sleeping on the couch. But, strangely, there was none. My head was resting on a soft pillow, and there was something fluffy, not too heavy, resting on my body.A blanket. How?Panic struck me. I sat up, letting the blanket fall off my body. I only sighed in relief on finding myself still in the living room, on the couch. How did this blanket and pillow end up here? Was it one of the servants who brought them?I rubbed my eyes, yawning. What now? Where’s that heartless man?My eyes roamed over the place. Except for the delightful aroma coming from the kitchen’s direction, I could sense no one else in the building. Strange.I need to take a bath. But I can’t use the guestroom’s bathroom. I cannot touch any of Jessica’s things. The only extra room left was upstairs, not so far from the master bedroom. But the last thing I want is to bump into Theo. Maybe I should ask the servant in the kitchen. She mig
