CEO

Divorce

On the night her marriage ends, Elena Valez signs the divorce papers without defending herself. Lucian Moretti—billionaire CEO and heir to a powerful empire—believes she betrayed him. Missing company funds. Secret meetings. A hotel record under her name. The evidence is undeniable. And Elena refuses to explain. What Lucian doesn’t know is that the money was never stolen… it was moved to uncover a truth that could destroy his family. What he doesn’t know is that she walked into his office that night to tell him something that would change everything. She’s pregnant. Seven weeks. Carrying the child doctors once told Lucian he could never have. Before she can decide whether to tell him, his father steps in with a chilling ultimatum: disappear and raise the baby in silence—or Lucian will be made to believe the child isn’t his. Now divorced, pregnant, and targeted by the powerful Moretti family, Elena must choose between protecting her unborn child and exposing a secret that could bring an empire to its knees. But when Lucian begins to suspect that the truth is far more complicated than betrayal, old love ignites into something far more dangerous. Because some divorces don’t end love. They start a war. And this time, the secret she carries isn’t just a child. It’s the key to everything.

Chapter 1: Signed in silence

The rain began before the argument ended.

Elena Valez stood in the center of Lucian Moretti’s office — the room that once felt like their shared kingdom — and watched as the lawyer placed the divorce documents between them.

Three years of marriage.

Reduced to ink.

Lucian didn’t sit.

He stood behind his desk, tall, immovable, eyes colder than the storm beyond the glass walls.

“You could have told me the truth,” he said.

His voice wasn’t loud.

That made it worse.

Elena met his gaze steadily. “You never asked.”

A muscle ticked in his jaw.

“The financial transfer. The private meetings. The hotel record under your name.” His eyes darkened. “What exactly was I supposed to think?”

That she was cheating.

That she betrayed him.

That she used him.

She inhaled slowly.

If she told him now, everything would explode. His father. The board. The investigation she had started.

And Lucian would destroy whoever stood in his way.

Including himself.

So she stayed silent.

And silence, tonight, looked like guilt.

“Say something,” he demanded.

Her fingers curled at her sides.

“I was protecting you.”

“From what?”

“You.”

The word slipped out before she could stop it.

His expression hardened instantly.

“That’s enough.”

The lawyer cleared his throat awkwardly.

Lucian pushed the papers toward her.

“Sign it.”

Three years ago, he had slid a ring across a table with the same steady hand.

Tonight, he was sliding freedom.

Or exile.

Elena picked up the pen.

For a second — just one — her vision blurred.

Not from tears.

From nausea.

She ignored it.

“You once told me I was the only person you trusted,” she said quietly.

“I was wrong,” Lucian replied.

Clean. Sharp. Final.

She signed.

He signed.

Just like that, they were strangers.

Elena walked toward the door without looking back.

If she turned around, she might break.

And she refused to let him see her break.

The rain hit her the moment she stepped outside. Cold. Heavy. Punishing.

Halfway down the driveway, her stomach twisted violently.

She grabbed the iron gate for balance.

The world spun.

Her breath shortened.

Then darkness swallowed her whole.

Hospital lights hummed overhead.

A doctor stood beside her bed.

“You’re approximately seven weeks pregnant.”

Elena stared at him.

Seven weeks.

Her hand slowly moved to her abdomen.

Lucian’s child.

The irony almost made her laugh.

Divorced.

And carrying the heir to the Moretti empire.

A knock sounded at the door.

The doctor stepped aside.

Vittorio Moretti entered.

Immaculate suit. Silver hair. Sharp eyes that missed nothing.

His gaze dropped briefly to the medical file.

Then back to her.

“This is unfortunate timing,” he said calmly.

Elena’s spine straightened despite the hospital bed.

“How long have you known?” she asked.

A faint smile curved his lips.

“Long enough.”

Her heart skipped.

Known what?

About the pregnancy?

Or about the investigation she had started?

Vittorio stepped closer.

“You will not tell Lucian about this child.”

It wasn’t a request.

“And if I refuse?” she asked quietly.

His smile faded.

“Then I will make sure he believes that baby isn’t his.”
