ANMELDENLeonel Grey Montero, a cool and well-known student, was peacefully walking alone in the school hallway until—
“Leon!”
Someone interrupted his quiet time from behind.
“Not again, please,” he mumbled to himself, immediately recognizing the voice and already anticipating the unavoidable disturbance to his peaceful walk. To avoid getting dragged into another troublesome conversation, he intentionally ignored her call and kept walking as if he heard nothing at all.
Unfortunately for him, it was already too late.
The girl quickly caught up to him and casually walked beside him as though it was the most natural thing in the world. Leon slightly averted his gaze, clearly showing that he had no interest in entertaining her.
“Hey, why didn’t you look back at me?” she asked while trying to peek at his face. “Are you still upset about yesterday? I’m sorry.”
“Nope, that’s not it,” Leon answered flatly.
“Then what is it?”
He merely shrugged and continued walking without giving a proper answer.
The hallway around them slowly became noisier.
“Guys, look! Leon and Clara are together again.”
“They really look close, huh? Like an old married couple.”
“Ah, I envy Leon so much.”
“Same with Clara!”
As they walked past the students, whispers and murmurs followed them nonstop. It happened almost every day whenever the two most popular students in school were seen together. Even though people tried to whisper quietly, their voices were still loud enough for both Leon and Clara to hear.
Clara clicked her tongue softly before leaning closer to Leon.
“We should hurry,” she whispered.
“Yeah. Same thoughts,” Leon replied immediately.
Even Leon, who usually ignored everything around him, was starting to feel uncomfortable under everyone’s stares and gossip. Thankfully, their classroom was only a few steps away.
The moment they entered the room, both of them silently sighed in relief.
“Hey, Rosie, we’re back!” Clara greeted cheerfully as she walked toward their seat.
Rosie, their seatmate, looked up from the book she was reading.
“You’re looking cheerful today, Clarina,” Rosie said with a small smile. “Did something good happen?”
Clara shook her head.
“Nope! Just a normal day.”
Leon quietly sat on the chair beside Clara while Rosie remained seated on the other side.
For a brief moment, the classroom became peaceful.
Then Clara suddenly turned toward Rosie with sparkling eyes.
“Ah! I have a question for you, Rosie.”
“What is it?”
“Which of us two is the most popular and the least popular?” Clara asked while pointing toward Leon.
Rosie frowned immediately.
“Really? Are you mocking me because I’m just an average student?”
Rosie’s appearance was plain compared to most students in their school. Her hairstyle was simple, her glasses gave her a nerdy atmosphere, and her calm personality often caused people to overlook her presence.
“No! That’s not what I meant!” Clara hurriedly clarified while waving both hands.
“Then what do you mean by ‘most’ and ‘least’ popular?”
“Well…” Clara leaned back on her chair. “Earlier, people were talking about us again while we were walking through the hallway. Since everyone always talks about us because of popularity, I suddenly got curious about who’s actually more popular between me and Leon.”
“I can’t believe this…” Leon muttered in disappointment after hearing Clara’s reasoning.
Rosie adjusted her glasses thoughtfully.
“In terms of personality, I’d say it’s definitely you, Clara.”
“Yes!” Clara clenched her fists victoriously.
“But in sports,” Rosie continued calmly, “I’d choose Leon.”
“E-eh?”
Clara’s happy expression instantly froze.
Leon, on the other hand, smirked slightly after seeing her reaction.
“But when it comes to being a role model, Clara wins again,” Rosie added.
“All right!” Clara proudly flipped her hair.
“However, in academics and intelligence…” Rosie paused dramatically. “Leon takes that one.”
“What?!”
Leon could not help but let out a quiet chuckle while Clara looked completely betrayed.
The debate continued for several more minutes.
“In social skills, Clara.”
“In coolness, Leon.”
“In energy, Clara.”
“In mysterious aura, Leon.”
“In being troublesome…” Rosie paused while staring at Clara.
“H-hey!”
“Clara.”
“Oi!”
Leon laughed quietly at the side while Clara pouted in annoyance.
Eventually, Clara slammed both hands onto the desk dramatically.
“Rosie, can you just tell us already who’s the MOST popular overall?”
Rosie crossed her arms and closed her eyes seriously.
“Very well. Give me a moment to properly analyze this complicated situation.”
“What is she doing?” Leon whispered toward Clara.
“I honestly don’t know either,” Clara whispered back.
Rosie then turned around dramatically, as though she were some great detective solving a difficult case. She even took out a pen and paper for no reason at all.
Leon and Clara stared at her silently.
A few nearby classmates also began watching out of curiosity.
After nearly an entire minute of unnecessary “computation,” Rosie finally turned back toward them with a serious expression.
“After my fully processed analysis and careful observation…” Rosie began.
The tension between Leon and Clara immediately rose.
“Who will it be?” Clara wondered nervously.
“Please just finish this already,” Leon thought tiredly.
Rosie lifted one finger.
“The most popular person in this school is…”
Silence filled the room.
“…Clara!”
“Yes—!” Clara was already about to celebrate.
“And Leon!”
“Eh?”
Both of them froze in confusion.
Rosie proudly nodded.
“And for the least popular person…” she continued with a smile, “it’s also the two of you.”
“What kind of answer is that?!” Clara immediately protested.
“It means you’re both the most and least popular students in school,” Rosie explained confidently. “Amazing, right?”
“That explanation makes no sense,” Leon said flatly.
Rosie only laughed proudly as though she had solved the greatest mystery in history.
Clara and Leon exchanged disappointed looks.
At that moment, they both realized they had completely wasted their time listening to Rosie’s nonsense.
Clara slowly cracked her fingers.
“Hey, Leon,” she said with a dangerous smile, “should we teach her a lesson?”
Leon immediately understood what she meant.
“Yeah,” he replied calmly while standing up. “Let’s do it.”
Rosie’s smile instantly disappeared.
“G-guys?” she asked nervously while slowly backing away. “Why are you both staring at me like that…?”
Without warning, Clara attacked first and began tickling Rosie’s waist mercilessly while Leon held both of her arms in place.
“H-hey! Wait! Stop! Tchahaha—!”
Rosie burst into uncontrollable laughter.
“I-I’m sorry! Hahahaha! Please stop already—!”
“You brought this upon yourself,” Leon said calmly while trying not to laugh.
“Mercy?” Clara grinned mischievously. “Denied.”
“Tchahaha!! Leon! Help me—wait, you’re part of this too?!”
Several classmates nearby could not help but laugh while watching the chaotic scene unfold.
Meanwhile, at the front of the classroom, their class president quietly watched the three of them with a tired expression.
“Haah…” he sighed deeply. “Look at them again.”
He rested his chin on his palm before muttering helplessly,
“A happy family indeed.”
It was Friday morning, and everything had returned to normal as Clara finally returned to school in good health."Clara, you're back!" exclaimed by her classmates as she stepped into the classroom. They welcomed her warmly, expressing their happiness and excitement to see her, even though she had only been absent for a day."She’s really popular, no?" Rosie remarked, casting a glance at the crowd surrounding Clara."Yeah," Leon replied, appearing uninterested as he flipped through a book that he’s reading."Good morning, everyone!" Clara greeted as she took her seat, looking well and energetic once again."Morning," they both responded in unison."I'm glad you're back, Clara," said Rosie, her expression serene as she smiled at her friend."Thank you, Rosie!" Clara replied, returning the smile before turning to Leon. "Hey, did you miss me?""Not a chance," Leon denied, slightly tilting his head in response to her question. But deep down, he was relieved that she was okay.Even during b
Leonel Grey Montero"Good morning, class," our first subject teacher greeted us as he walked to his desk at the front of the classroom."Good morning, sir," we responded in unison, standing up to greet our teacher."You may sit down," he remarked as he settled at his desk, pulling out his laptop. "First, let’s take attendance."Everyone in the class responded with a "present," raising their hands to signify their attendance. Except for one person."Is Miss Lourencia present here?" The teacher scanned the room, searching for a specific individual who was not likely to be present here."No, sir. She’s not here," a classmate replied."Ah, okay, absent," he noted.Turning to Clara’s empty desk, I couldn't help but wonder why she wasn't present in our morning class today. Her absence seemed to pique the interest of others. After all, she was that popular kind of person. The atmosphere in the classroom felt different without her. Without Clara, my school life seemed more peaceful, yet at th
"Good morning, Clara," people greeted her as she entered the classroom."Good morning," she responded with a smile, which seemed to energize those around her once again. She took her usual seat, exchanging greetings with her closest seatmates, Leon and Rosie. "Good morning, guys.""Good morning, Clara. You seem to be in a good mood today. Did something happen?" Rosie asked."Not really, it's just that the weather today is nice, innit?" Clara replied, her British accent prompting Leon to give her a questioning stare, but he decided just to shrug his shoulders then."Innit?" Clara repeated, obviously waiting for Leon to answer her question.Looking at Leon, who appeared unbothered based on his reaction, but deep down, he was troubled by the need to face this girl every single day. As the wait continued, tension built within him, so he gave in this time to at least satisfy her."Y-yeah..." he responded."Right? Like the sky is so bright that it makes the clouds look fantastic in a way!"
"Hey Rosie, I've been curious about your glasses for a while," Clara started the conversation while sitting beside Rosie."These?" Rosie pointed at her glasses. "What about them?""Are they prescription glasses?" Clara asked curiously."What do you think?" Rosie replied with an open response."Can I try them for a bit," Clara reached for Rosie's glasses and immediately put them on.Rosie smirked, knowing Clara would be surprised by how strong her prescription was. “Sure.”"Ow! What's this?!" Clara reacted as expected, squinting her eyes in frustration. "How strong are these prescription glasses?" she asked."It's actually 1.75," Rosie replied then laughed afterwards.“Ah figures.” Clara was about to give the glasses back when she noticed Leon glancing at them."Leon, can you come closer for a sec?" Clara requested. She immediately had an idea in her mind."Nope," he replied, anticipating Clara's intentions."Please, just this once," she pleaded, trying to make her eyes look cute to co
Clarina Rayne Lourencia."Go Clara, make it for the team!" people cheered me on as we faced off against the other team with just 1 point away for us to seal the victory. The game was intense and we were in a crucial moment, feeling the pressure especially because our opponent was a former representative volleyball team from our school. But the volleyball court was right in front of me, with its familiar lines marking the boundaries. I felt comfortable on the rubber wooden floor, knowing exactly where I needed to be. I had always experienced this kind of situation, therefore I know what to do.Also my teammates were by my side, giving me the support I needed. We were all working together to win. So I, Clara, was ready for this moment.Whistle blown which signaled to start the game, pointing at the other side making the opposing team to serve. As the ball flew through the air, everything seemed to slow down. I focused only on the game, ignoring everything else except for the ball. The n
Leonel Grey Montero"Leon!" I heard an older woman's voice from the kitchen, sounding like my mom."Yeah?" I replied."Can you pick up your little sister from school before you go?" she asked."Sure, but why me?""I'm kinda busy preparing lunch before she gets back home," she explained, busy as always. The good thing is I have afternoon classes while my little sister goes in the morning. At least our schedules don't clash. I headed out wearing casual clothes to fetch my little sister from school. It's usually just me, my little sister, and my mom at home since my dad often comes back late from work. But sometimes he makes up for it by spending time with us when he can.Walking down the street, I caught sight of a glass mirror in a store, causing me to pause for a moment and take the opportunity to check my reflection.Honestly, I don't quite understand why I'm popular or why some of the girls in my school like me. I just usually have my messy black hair and don't pay much attention to
