Only when everyone left did I have the courage to get up from my seat and walk out. Bianca was waiting for me outside with a smile.

“I heard Tommaso handed you your ass in court today. How did it feel?” She asked.

“God, Bia. You’re a little stalker. What is wrong with you?”

“I may be a stalker, but I am not a loser. Donata will drop you like a hot potato after today. Just so you know, I have taken your desk at the office. You can have mine. Face it, you’re beneath me.”

She walked away as she laughed. She was obsessed with me for reasons I didn’t understand. She was so different from her siblings, Lorenzo, who happened to have the same name as my client, and Caterina.

They liked me, but Bianca and her mother were always praying for my downfall and celebrating every time something bad happened to me. It didn’t matter, though, at least I was living my life, and I wasn’t focused on what people were doing.

Donata was waiting for me outside when I went to my car.

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Strike Two

“What does he want from me, and why are you ambushing me after my lunch with the Rinaldi family. They will have my head on a plate if they find out I have ties to Emilio.”I was still scared, and I kept looking around, hoping no one would see us speaking to one another. What if they hadn’t left the restaurant? My father would kill me if I spoiled the relationship he had with Tommaso’s father.“I don’t care about your relationships,” he said as he stepped in front of me and looked down at me.He was as tall as Emilio, which meant he was towering over me. I had to step back, but he wasn’t having it. He stepped forward again. His close proximity was meant to intimidate me, and it was working.“I heard you hired someone to look into Emilio,” he stated. My heart immediately started racing. If Emilio sent Raffaele, could that mean that he was getting rid of me? Raffa was the man he used when he wanted someone to either be tortured or to disappear off the face of the earth.I had seen him do

“Tommaso!” His mother chastised. He shrugged his shoulders and gave me a smug smirk. He was mad that I had embarrassed him in front of my family. But I only stated a fact everyone knew.“I’m not lying. Everyone knows he is working for the woman who defended Emilio.” He doubled down and said.“Is this true?” His father asked.“It is true that I got a job at the law firm where she works. However, I am not working with her. It was an offer I couldn’t reject. I am a businesswoman before I am politically correct. They offered me an office, my own assistant, and a high-profile case. I can’t even get into the salary because it made my eyes widen in surprise.”“She offered you the job because you helped her with—”“Don’t spread lies about me, Tommaso. I am going to tell you this in front of your parents.” I said.“But he is right. Why would Donata Ferri offer you a job, of all people?” His father asked. Like father, like son. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised that they were defending on

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Investigator

For the next few days, I barely saw Emilio. After I cried in his arms like an idiot, I fell asleep and woke up to his absence. He had texted me a few times but I refused to text him back.He was the root of all my problems and that was something I wasn’t willing to forget.Besides, I was being watched closely by my family. My father sent me a bodyguard, claiming I was in danger because Emilio was a free man so he wanted me to stay protected. That was a load of bullshit. He didn’t care what happened to me. He was only using the bodyguard thing as an excuse to spy on me. The bodyguard wasn’t even someone he had hired. He got one of his soldiers to come and keep me company and follow me wherever I went.He wanted to make sure I had no ties to Emilio. I wasn’t going to see him again either. We were on opposite sides of the playing field. I couldn’t forget that he belonged behind bars. I needed a way to put him back there. After all, it had been my fault that he was free in the first place

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Angry (2)

I drove angrily to my apartment that day. I ran almost every single red light because I wasn’t thinking about driving. I was still buzzing with anger. I couldn’t calm down no matter how hard I tried. When I got to my apartment, I angrily threw my purse across the room and screamed so loudly I thought the neighbors would hear me. None of it was enough to make me feel better about what had happened.I had told myself that I was going to relax during the brunch and let them talk down to me. And when they were done, I would nod and refuse to do what they asked me to. I didn’t expect to lash out like that.I already knew I would regret what I had done when the alcohol and the anger faded. I paced my living room, wondering if my feelings were valid or if I had crashed out too much in front of my family. My father wouldn’t allow me in his house for a while, and he wouldn’t allow my mother to speak to me either. Not that I would ever feel her absence because her presence in itself faded the m

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Angry (1)

My hands were shaking as I walked into Giancarlo’s house for brunch. Everyone was already there. I was late on purpose because I wanted to delay the criticism I knew was coming for as long as I could. But then again, I couldn’t afford to be too late or else Papá would be ten times angrier at me. After my conversation with Alessandro, I denied any involvement with Emilio and told him that the only thing I cared for my career.Which was the truth.I had to stop seeing Emilio. Alessandro already suspected something was going on. It was only a matter of time before we were caught together and I had to answer to my family. I didn’t want to do that.“Look what the cat dragged in,” Bianca’s mother said. “I thought you weren’t going to show up.”I ignored her and walked to the garden, where everyone else was waiting. Everyone glanced at me, but no one dared speak to me. The only people I greeted were my mother, Caterina, and Lorenzo.Alessandro was suspicious of me, and my father didn’t want

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Dirty Little Secret

“I heard you won your first case,” Emilio said as he leaned against my door. He was in a gray suit without the jacket, but he had the vest on and a white shirt to match. He didn’t have a tie, and the first few buttons of his shirt were undone. You could see all his tattoos, and even though he was in a suit, he still had the ring on his bottom lip and the ones on his ears. He looked like a classic bad boy who spent daddy’s money. The only difference was that he was a dangerous criminal who slept with a gun under his pillow. I had seen it twice, even though I had never seen him fall asleep. He was always working. The man was currently standing in my office. It was late, and almost everyone was gone. Only a few people were left in the building. I was still scared of being seen with him because my father was the one who put him in jail. And I was being accused of assisting him in escaping from prison.“What are you doing here, Vitale?” I asked him.“I came to see Donata to thank her for w
