“Excuse me?” I asked because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Mikhail knew the reason why his mother had been kicked out was because she tried to kill me. If he was trying to kill me, he could’ve just said so instead of acting like his mother was some sort of damsel in distress.

When I looked at her, I saw that her mascara was dripping from her eyes, and she had this disheveled look. Her eyes were puffy and red like she had been crying.

She held onto her son for their life as though she was afraid that if she let him go, something would happen. I almost fell for her little act if it wasn’t for the subtle smirk that was playing on her lips.

When she saw the look of horror on my face, she was even more ecstatic than before. That was when I realized she had her son wrapped around her little finger and he couldn’t even see it.

“She is moving back in,” he repeated.

“You can’t move her back in here. She tried to kill me in case you don’t remember, and I need to refresh your memory. D

  • Don Maxim's Plaything   Weight Lifted Off My Shoulders

Fabio cursed me out every single time I showed up to give him food and water. He told me he would kill me so many times that had grown used to hearing those words coming from his mouth. They were nothing but empty promises because all he wanted to do was get high and be left alone, but I wasn’t going to sit back and watch my brother sink himself in a pit of addiction when there was something I could do about it.Kira, on the other hand, was very skeptical about everything I gave her. She had accused me once of trying to poison her, and I told her that if I wanted to kill her, I would let her out and fight her to the death because I was stronger and more skilled than she ever would be.I didn’t know whether she had experience in fighting, but I knew what my father had taught me, and that was combat ever since I was a little girl. All those skills were permanently ingrained in my memory.I didn’t fight often, but I sure as hell brought my A- game when it came down to it.Those two had b

“I’m good, Salvatore, but I would be happier if all of you disappeared and pretended I don’t exist. But you can’t do that. How are you, Salvatore?” I asked sarcastically. He gave me a nasty look and grabbed my hand, pulling me into a corner. I looked back at Sonya and shot her a look to indicate that I was okay, and she had no reason to worry about me.“You’re causing a scene. People are starting to look at us. Why can’t you just act normal and ask to speak in private?” I asked. He rolled his eyes and started walking to the VIP area. He made himself comfortable in the room. There was still loud music, but it was easier to have a conversation in there than in the main area.“What do you want, Sal?” I asked, using the nickname I had used on him since we were young. Of all my brothers, I had a soft spot for him.His expression softened when I called him that, but he soon fixed it, acting like I was the enemy, and I didn’t deserve any good treatment.“Have you seen Fabio?” He asked me.I

  • Don Maxim's Plaything   Third Brother (1)

I was in the club with my best friend, and Darko was long gone after our conversation when I thought I saw somebody that I recognized. I thought my eyes had to be playing tricks on me because there was no way that man was around. However, I rubbed my eyes and looked again, and he was still there, just staring at me. My blood ran cold and I thought I was going to die. The feeling of seeing your sibling again after almost ten years was nostalgic.Carlos was not pleasant and Fabio was a sociopath so there’s no way I would have missed him. Both of them had bullied me growing up, they hated women so they hated me by extension. They both loved playing tricks on Allegra and I so they would always make our lives miserable. Of course our father did nothing to stop these things from happening because he enjoyed seeing them hurt us.He only wanted boys and that was no secret, but he was certainly glad that he got girls because he would marry herself and get a big payday.Especially because we w

“He’s onto you,” Darko said to me.It had been a week since I last saw Fabio. I was out with Sonya in a club, and she was on the dancefloor with girls she had just met. She was having fun, and I took the opportunity to speak to Darko.I didn’t know how he had found me, but he had. He was there to warn me that my husband was suspicious of me, a fact I already knew. It was hard for him to trust me when I was slowly unravelling.I was seemingly tired of pretending to be someone I wasn’t, and I was revealing my real identity day by day. Tragedies were threatening to expose me before I exposed myself. His sister was right.I couldn’t keep these sisters anymore.“I know. He has been acting normal, but I can tell that he closely watches me. I had to shake off someone who was following me. He thinks there is more to me than meets the eye.” I said, with a somber expression on my face.My perfect little life was slowly falling apart, and within no time, my husband would find out my secret and I

  • Don Maxim's Plaything   Darko's Answers (Maxim)

“She’s the daughter of the previous Pakhan of the Russian mafia. She’s the daughter he wouldn’t claim. She was from one of his previous mistresses, who was a prostitute working in one of his brothels. She got pregnant and gave birth to Kira.”“She spent her whole life trying to be his daughter, and he didn’t acknowledge her because he always wanted a son. When he died, she was crushed, and she decided she wanted to avenge him. That was when she curated the perfect character to infiltrate your organization. I think she believes that the throne should have been hers.”“A woman like that isn’t capable of feeling love. She might have sought validation from her father, but it’s not revenge that drives her. She wants your throne, and she’s coming for it. I have to give it to her. She’s not an easy woman to track down.”“She has covered all her tracks properly, and she’s very smart when it comes to business. She’s gotten to where she is solely by her own merit. No one has propelled her or he

  • Don Maxim's Plaything   She's Dead

Maxim found me in the warehouse, standing over Veronika’s body. I never liked her, but that didn’t mean I wanted to see her dead. That was the last thing I wanted. She may have been a bad person, but she was a victim in her own right. All her life, people—men had used her to further their agenda, and she agreed. She was so greedy for the male attention that she didn’t realize she compromised more than just her dignity.“What happened?” Maxim asked as he rushed towards me to check if I was okay. I didn’t even look at him. I kept looking at Veronika. She had been right. Maxim would never see me the same way when he found out I wasn’t the person I pretended to be. I was a hypocrite, and it didn’t take a genius to see it. I pretended I was a good person when I was anything but that.I was a liar.“Are you okay? What happened to her?” Maxim asked, but I couldn’t get a word out of my mouth.Mikhail checked Veronika’s pulse even though he knew deep in his heart that she was dead. He looked u
