LOGINAnnoyance replaced my excitement, my fists curling involuntarily.
What was Kyle doing here?
Dressed in an impeccably dark suit, he stepped forward, each footstep slow with a practical arrogance.
“Mr. Sinclair, I’ll leave you guys alone.” The security man quickly excused himself.
Kyle stopped in front of me, his eyes holding a condescending look as he stared down at me, his lips twitching in obvious mockery. “You didn't need to pull that kind of stunt just to see me. A phone call will do to make me send someone to pick you up.”
Huh?
Did he assume that I had come here looking for him?
Undoubtedly, Kyle was the one who ordered the security man to let me in.
It wasn't Draco as I’d initially thought.
Not only did I find his statement irritating, but it was so funny that I fought the urge to laugh out loud.
I rose to my feet and folded my hands across my chest, regarding him for a moment. “Mr. Sinclair, even if I was bored, I’d rather go throwing pebbles at a river than to look for you.”
Kyle’s expression darkened.
The cool air inside the room suddenly turned thick and intense, his aura radiating fury.
I wasn't sure whether it was my words, or the fact that I called him by his surname, but Kyle grabbed my arm, yanking me harshly.
“Lying doesn't suit you. Why else would you come here if not to look for me?” His lips twitched in disgust, but the rage underneath his mocking tone was obvious. “It hasn't even been twenty-four hours yet, and you cannot survive without me.”
“I was fine before I met you.” I wriggled my arm to break free. “Besides, those three months had the most wasteful days in my life.”
The more I spoke, the bigger his fury, the tension inside the room becoming more suffocating.
Seriously, I had no time to waste on Kyle. And bantering with him here might cause me to lose the chance of meeting Draco.
Summoning all my strength, I tried to push him but Kyle didn't budge.
Now wolfless with half of my lifespan gone, my strength compared to his was like that of an ant beside an elephant.
So I did the only possible thing at the moment. I began shouting at the top of my voice.
“Help! Help! A pervert has held me hostage! He's harassing me! Help!!!”
Fortunately, the glass walls weren't soundproof. Hurried footsteps approached the area, and I used Kyle’s distraction to break out of his hold.
In the next second, a lady dressed in a smart business suit stepped in.
She glanced from Kyle to me, her eyes assessing, her expression blank. “Mr. Sinclair, is there a problem?”
Whoever the lady was, she might not be afraid of Kyle because she stared him straight in the eyes.
In her presence, Kyle also appeared a bit uncomfortable which was unlike him.
“It’s nothing,” he said under his breath, and let go of me hesitantly.
“My Boss has other things to attend to. Please hasten up, Mr. Sinclair.”
While the lady spoke with Kyle, I was already on my way out of the waiting area.
Finally out of his proximity, I exhaled deeply, the anger still boiling inside me.
Right now, I was powerless against Kyle. But very soon, he would regret crossing me.
My eyes darted to left and right, wondering which direction I should go.
The hotel’s interior was so massive with many elevators leading to several floors.
Draco should be on the top floor. A place reserved only for the elites.
This was my first time in this hotel, but I’d once read about it in a magazine.
I entered one of the elevators and pressed the buttons to the highest floor. However, before the elevator doors fully closed, my eyes caught sight of the two figures approaching.
Kyle and that lady.
Luckily, the doors closed instantly. I didn't have to share the same elevator as him.
I really wasn't sure if I could control my anger, sharing the same proximity with him for the second time.
As the elevator moved upward, I tapped my feet on the floor, constantly glancing at my wristwatch now and then.
The elevator jolted all of a sudden, almost throwing me off balance.
It had been climbing smoothly, numbers ticking upward in obedient order, when it lurched and stopped between floors with a dull, metallic thud.
The hum died down.
The lights flickered once, twice, then settled into a harsh, buzzing brightness.
What now?
My heart sank, my fingers reaching for the emergency button, jabbing it constantly.
Not here.
I'd already encountered bad luck by bumping into Kyle. Another misfortune shouldn't happen.
But the elevator no longer moved.
Seconds turned to minutes.
With each passing time, frustration mixed with helplessness engulfed my mind.
My feet ached from pacing back and forth, sweat dampening my clothes.
Urgh!
I fell against the wall, lowering myself to the floor.
This wasn't happening.
I shouldn't miss my chance of meeting Draco.
Without a warning, the elevator shuddered.
My heart leaped to my throat as the machine hummed back to life. I shot to my feet, my heart racing with hope and anxiousness.
The elevator lurched upward again, as if nothing had happened, and the numbers resumed their climb. But I didn't relax until the elevator reached the highest floor.
Even when the doors slid open, my heartbeat didn't slow, nor did relief wash over me yet. I turned left, taking to my heels,
But I crashed into something sturdy, and my forehead hit a hard surface.
Ouch!
A sharp pain shot through my temples, and a gasp escaped my lips.
I stumbled a few feet backward, but something stopped me from falling. More like, someone.
He caught my hand in that familiar tight grip, hurling me forward until I collided back onto his chest. Then his other palm settled on my waist, drawing me closer.
“Admit it, Aria. You're obsessed with me.”
My fingers balled into fists as I fought the urge to explode in that instant.
Did he intentionally follow me? But why would he do that when he'd apparently discarded me for Selene?
Kyle’s taunting was grating on my nerves, and it took all of my sanity to remain composed.
His shirt was wet and he looked a bit disheveled, obviously having been stuck in the elevator as well.
Meeting his gaze, I laughed dryly. “I could ask you the same question. Are you obsessed with me, Mr. Sinclair? Is that why you keep following me everywhere?”
“Stop twisting things around. I already know what you want. I am never wrong.”
This time, he didn't appear angry. His eyes glinted with pride as if he'd already won the argument, his hold tightening around my waist, firmer, more intimate, leaving no room for escape.
Utterly disgusted, I struggled to push him away, but he gripped me tighter, almost crushing my bones.
Kyle opened his mouth to continue speaking, but his phone’s ringtone echoed through the empty hallway.
When he answered the call, his expression softened as he spoke to the other person. “Hey, Sweetheart. Do you need something?”
But a lady’s desperate voice sounded through the phone’s speakers, loud enough to hear her sobs. “Alpha Kyle, I think Aria is at it again. My head hurts. My whole body is aching. She must be hurting herself right now with the intention of torturing me.”
“Don't worry, My Love. I'll send the doctor over immediately.” While speaking to her, his eyes remained on me as if searching for a reaction.
While Kyle was making the phone call, a strong hand suddenly closed around my arm.
It was firm.
Undoubtedly not Kyle's.
The dark shadow of the person breezed past like the wind, pulling me with him.
“Hey, who are you!?”
“Please come back, Kyle! I'm in so much pain!”
Kyle roared, but Selene’s loud sobs through the phone’s speakers interrupted him from chasing after us.
Everything happened so fast.
The mysterious man’s back was to me. But his deep, clean scent clung to my senses, the forbearing aura surrounding him, thickening the atmosphere.
Aria’s POVWe were supposed to meet “Him” right? Why did Draco drag me back to my father’s place of all places?Just yesterday, the same man tried to kill me in the presence of half-entire the world. Draco was unpredictable, and inconsiderate.I got it that he gave no damn about my feelings… but please–A grab jolted me out of my thoughts; so tight and sudden the strong fingers instantly closed around my arm. I had no time to react when the person yanked me forward, causing me to collide into the hard frame of his body. My heart raced inside my chest. For a moment, I believed Draco had come out to annoy me more, only for me to lift my head… for my eyes to be met with familiar dark ones. This scumbag. What was he doing in this place?“So the Supreme Alpha’s daughter didn’t fire you after all…” Kyle’s lips lifted faintly. “I thought after stripping you naked, you would be thrown at the borders to be devoured by the rogues.”Urgh!I wriggled my hand to break free, rolling my eyes a
“Greetings to the Supreme Alpha. Father-in-law, it's a pleasure to meet you again.”When I approached and greeted, only the Supreme Alpha answered with a nod.As for Selene’s father, he stared daggers at me, his eyes flaming with anger. Selene sat beside him, silently lowering her head.“Kyle Sinclair, did I make a mistake by entrusting my daughter to you?” He asked, his voice low with controlled rage.My fingers curled by my sides. I loosened them before they clenched into fists. If he weren't Selene’s father, I wouldn't tolerate just anyone addressing me this way. After all, he was only a Beta.“Father-in-law, I’ll explain—”“What explanation is there to give?” He interrupted me. “Last night, everyone was at the ceremony except you guys. I later found out that it was because you took Selene to a dangerous place where she got poisoned!”I looked down, avoiding his eyes.So that was it.I worried too soon, thinking he'd summoned me because of that thing. From the looks of it, he hadn
Kyle’s POV I searched for almost half a day.I asked the hotel security to check the surveillance. No unusual activity detected.Which meant… it wasn't a normal abduction. My car was standing there, perfectly intact, with Selene inside it.Then she was gone.I couldn't recall having a feud with any of the supernatural beings recently. Who dared to abduct her?Frustrated, I paced back and forth in front of my car. Lost at what to do next, I dialed a contact.“Finally remembered me, Buddy?” Zane drawled, his voice heavy with intoxication.I sighed. “I need your help.”“You’ve asked for too many favors in a short time. Are you the great Kyle I used to know?”Right.Things just kept on going south ever since I stepped foot in this city.“Selene has gone missing.” Ignoring the taunting in his tone, I sighed. “She's too weak and fragile. And from the looks of it, the person who abducted her isn't ordinary.”“Hmmm.” Zane hummed faintly. “Now that's interesting. Who have you offended recentl
Draco’s gaze lingered on my features longer than necessary when I mentioned “Him.” But his eyes betrayed no emotion. If not, they were too focused as if reading through me.I kept a blank face, my posture steady, meeting his gaze with a calm intensity that masked my emotions.“Fine.” He stepped forward, lifting his fingers to wipe something from my lips. “Remember, Aria, whatever you do, do not bring a mess to this past.”His words were a warning. He might be sensing that I was about to land myself in trouble. But Draco underestimated me.“I'm not a troublemaker.”His lips twitched faintly with a hint of a smile. He opened his mouth to respond, and from all indications, he had the perfect comeback. In the end, he didn't say it due to mysterious reasons. Not because he cared about my feelings. We just finished bantering, right?“Go on.” He nodded towards the stairs. “I won't be waiting after ten minutes.”Ten minutes. That wasn't enough time for me to wash up and get ready. But my mi
Aria’s POVThe Next Morning. The rumbling in my stomach jolted me awake.I didn't eat throughout yesterday. Didn't even drink a drop of water. Now my stomach was rumbling like the drums of war, my vision so blurry I could faint from the intense hunger.I jumped down from the bed, slipped on my sleepers, and rushed straight downstairs.Didn't care about washing my face or even glancing at my messy appearance in the mirror. The rollercoaster of events yesterday, along with the conflict and drama, must have messed with my nervous system. The hunger wasn't just from lack of eating. Funny how I'd dropped asleep the moment we arrived home last night.“Good morning, Luna.” Many voices greeted me concurrently when I arrived downstairs. There seemed to be a lot of servants inside the house this morning,Which was weird. But I didn't stop to assess what was going on in my haste to reach the dining room as soon as possible.Luckily, the food was ready.I dug in as fast as I could despite feeling
Kyle's POV Damnit! I was late!Glancing at my wristwatch, a wave of anger and irritation surged through me.It was 10:00 PM. The ceremony was already over. Yet, here I was, waiting for Selene to wake up.Someone must have spiked her drink last night. One of those hungry bastards. Not only did they have the audacity to hurt my mate, but they also spiked my drink as well. I woke up this morning to find us both lying on the rooftop, side by side.Last night, I wanted to leave immediately after hearing about Dickson’s death. Those scumbags, however, urged us to stay.I should have known from the mischievous looks in their eyes that they were up to no good.Up to this time, Selene hadn't awakened yet. She'd slept for a whole day straight. That was weird.Did something else happen to her?I couldn't get my mind off that question even though the doctors had assured me;She was fine. Her system was just too weak to handle the potency of the intoxicant. Why was my mind still unsettled then?
Selene’s father wasn't an Alpha. He was the former Beta of the CrystalMoon Pack and had a very good relationship with the other Pack Elders. After the extermination war, the CrystalMoon Pack was among the oldest survivors due to their strong mastery of military tactics. From then on, it became the
Thrown into shock, I hadn't processed what was happening yet when a second metal screeched, aiming again for my neck, its sharp curved edge glinting against the light. It was only an inch away from my skin when Draco caught it sharply. My heart pounded against my ribcage. Not only from fear, but a
Beatrice narrowed her eyes, and she eyed me from head to toe. “She’s no witch or ghost. But something is different about her.”In a flash, the woman was standing beside me, gripping my arm. “I knew it! This ungrateful brat has wasted herself and is now back to seek crumbs from your father.”“Ridicu
I was wrong. The palm wasn't rough. It was a hankie instead which gave off a sweet fragrance. As it seeped into my senses, everything around me turned into a blur. The urge to sleep was overwhelming, and my consciousness left me in no time. When I opened my eyes, the sunlight blinded my vision.I f
