Chapter 2

Author: Lil Rock
I drifted over to Cameron's side. "If you like Zoe, then marry her. Why did you have to date me and then go to her?"

I was standing right in front of him. It was a pity that he could not see me.

He and Dad had both favored Zoe while I was alive. Even when I had become a bag of skin and bones due to weight loss from late-stage breast cancer, they hadn't realized that anything was wrong.

Now that I was dead, they were going to take even less notice of me.

I felt discouraged, so I turned and looked at the wedding dress that Zoe was wearing.

"I put in so much effort to get that wedding dress custom-made, but in the end, you're the one wearing it. Don't you think it's bad luck to wear the clothes of a dead person?"

I would rather tear the wedding dress to pieces than let her wear it!

I tried huffily to tear the wedding dress up.

My hand went right through it, and I realized once again that I was dead.

"I was so spineless when I was alive. I should at least be a vengeful ghost after death so that I can get back at them!"

I sighed heavily.

They had finished trying on the wedding dress and the suit. My dad wanted to go, so my soul drifted off after him.

When my dad got home, he sat on the couch and stared blankly at his phone.

He called me several more times, but unfortunately, no one answered.

He frowned and muttered, "She won't even pick up her phone because she's sulking! All she does is make her elders worry. She's not mature at all, unlike Zoe!"

"I'm already dead. Wouldn't you get a heart attack from fright if I actually did answer?"

I was used to talking back to him, but I felt like I had made a mistake once the words slipped out of my mouth.

"You don't even know that I'm dead."

He would enjoy the silence now that I wasn't around. A couple of years might actually go by without him realizing that I was dead.

My dad would worry if he were out of contact with Zoe even for a couple of minutes.

At that thought, I began feeling pathetic again.

In the following week, I was forced to watch my father dote on Zoe while Cameron and Zoe treated each other lovingly.

It was laughable. I hadn't seen them before I died, but now that I was dead, I couldn't leave.

God really was doing his best to make things sickening for me.

I went up to my father. "You dislike me, don't you? You get angry at the mere sight of me. You want nothing more than to never see me again, right? I hang around every day now. Go and find a priest to get rid of me!"

I would rather disintegrate into nothing than stay with him any longer.

Other fathers would never have been able to bear treating their daughters like that, but he wouldn't have minded since he disliked me so much.

However, I had never experienced the feeling of disintegrating into nothing. I was afraid that it would hurt too much.

I drifted over to Cameron. "Forget it. It would be better if you could find someone to perform death rituals for me. It probably won't hurt too much. I mean, you should just marry Zoe if you like her. Why did you lie to me? It's not like it's the first time that she's stolen a man from me!"

I blabbered on for ages, but neither Cameron nor my father heard a single thing.

All they talked about was Zoe. Had she saved their lives or something?

I was very frustrated, and I cursed at them every day and called them all the names I could think of. I even hung upside down over their heads, hoping that I could materialize someday and scare them. It would be a small way of venting my anger.

However, even that wish was not granted to me.

The day of Cameron and Zoe's wedding came.

Early in the morning that day, social media was filled with reports titled "Professor Wilson succeeds in retrieving memories from the dead". Matthew was due to show everyone his miraculous feat at 10:30 am.

My father and Cameron were unconcerned when they saw the news, as they were busy with the wedding.

Not only was Zoe wearing my wedding dress, but she had even used all my designs for the venue decor. My father and Cameron both knew that I had been the one who had crafted those designs, but they had still agreed.

"Shameless wretch!"

If it weren't for the fact that it was my first time being a ghost and I had no experience at all, I would have tried to stage a resurrection of my corpse!

My father had no idea that I was right beside him. He even gave instructions to the security guards. "If you see Vanessa, you must not let her in here!"

I wanted to scratch him. "I wouldn't have come even if you'd invited me! Do you think I'd want to be here?"

Cameron was speaking to Sasha, who had come to attend the wedding. "I'll explain to Nessa later about my marriage to Zoe. I'm sure she'll understand."

I wanted to hit him. "Understand my foot!"

Sasha was so angry that tears spilled out of her eyes. "You jerks!"

"Don't cry, Sasha! It makes my heart ache!"

I forgot about being angry when I saw her like that. I wanted to wipe her tears away for her, but I had no corporeal form and could not touch her, no matter how hard I tried.

Sasha took out her phone tearfully and held it up in front of Dad and Cameron.

It was the live broadcast of a press conference.

My corpse was on the screen. My eyes were shut tightly, and my corpse was pallid gray.

Sasha had helped me put on my favorite floral-patterned dress.

However, I was just too thin. I was so thin that I looked skeletal. It was terrifying to look at, and there was no beauty in my appearance at all.

Cameron grabbed the toy. "Don't touch Vanessa's things. She'll get angry!"He wanted to put the soft toy away, but my father lunged at him and bit him so hard that he drew blood. The two of them became entangled in a brawl. My aunt and Sasha came over to pack up my things. When they saw that the two of them were covered with wounds, they called an ambulance for them. After the doctor examined them, he said that my father had gone mad.Cameron was covered in blood but refused to be admitted to the hospital. He stubbornly asked Sasha for my ashes.Sasha said hatefully, "Fine. If you do a walk of repentance over Mount Tayn, Mount Hoar, Mount Evergreen, Mount Pline, and Mount Stark while saying prayers for Nessa, I'll give you the ashes!"Cameron agreed. After he left, I remained with my father, so I did not know how things were with Cameron. After a month, I heard a caregiver ask, "Did you see the news? There's a man who has been on a walk of repentance while saying prayers for h

Cameron and my father had moved in together earlier to take care of Zoe.After they went home, the hospital called and said that Zoe had broken both legs and was now trying to take her own life. After she came out of emergency care, she'd slit her wrists again and had just been wheeled out once more. They told my father and Cameron to go and pay for her hospital fees and take care of her.My father sat on the bed. He did not eat, drink, or move.Cameron told the hospital staff to give the phone to Zoe.He said to her, "Even if you die 100 times, it no longer has anything to do with me! I promised to marry you back then because I wanted to save your life. "However, you're pretentious, petty, and selfish… You used depression as a weapon and stopped at nothing to achieve your own goal! I regret hurting Nessa for someone like you. You're worth even less than a single strand of her hair!"I'd never heard him make such cutting remarks, especially to Zoe.He had always told me that Zo

My memories had been broadcast live all over the Internet, and many people now recognized Cameron and my father.Cameron looked worn out. "Zoe can kick up as much of a fuss as she wants. I don't care anymore."He stood up and said to my father in a hoarse voice, "I promised to marry Zoe to save her, but it ended up being the last straw for Nessa. It's my fault the person I loved the most died, and I didn't even get to see her one last time… I brought all of this on myself. You and I are the culprits who caused her death!"Cameron left after he had finished speaking. My father buried his face in his hands and began sobbing loudly. I had never seen him look so upset.Even though I had told him numerous times that I was ill, he hadn't even gone to the hospital once. Why was he upset now?I couldn't understand it, nor did I want to try to. After a while, my aunt arrived in a hurry. She said angrily to my father, "You treated your stepdaughter so well while being so strict on your

Cameron turned to look at him with red eyes.Sasha demanded through gritted teeth, "How could you be thick-skinned enough to say something like that? If you, Cameron, and Zoe hadn't put so much pressure on her, she would never have gotten breast cancer at such a young age!"She had an operation a year ago and had a fairly good prognosis. "However, you all acted as if you wanted nothing more than for her to die! You're her father, but you forbade your daughter to marry her fiance for the sake of a bitch! Her fiance lied and cheated on her to protect his ex-girlfriend! You're the reason her health declined so rapidly!"I can't believe that you're getting married just a week after she died. You can't even let her rest in peace! What has she done to deserve meeting jerks like you?"Sasha's voice broke as she yelled at the top of her lungs. She was the only one in my life who treated me sincerely.I suddenly felt lucky to have always had her by my side.Zoe had seen the commotion a

My father's face turned dark at once, and he promised me that he would teach Zoe a lesson. However, Zoe did not come home. The hospital called and said that she had tried to commit suicide. My dad rushed to the hospital with me.Zoe cried and said, "Nessa keeps going around and telling everyone that I stole her boyfriend. Everyone's criticizing me! I don't want to live anymore!"She had jumped into the river and almost drowned. My father's heart broke, and he cried as he took her in his arms.I tried to defend myself, but he got up and slapped me. "You know that your sister has severe depression, and yet you still spread rumors about her! You're forcing her to her death! Kneel and apologize to her!"My heart went cold. I felt as if someone had splashed a basin of cold water all over me.I felt very upset as I asked him, "Why do you have to treat your daughter like this while you give in to your benefactor's daughter in every aspect? Sasha said in a choked voice, "It's a good thing that Nessa died. At least she won't get angry because of you two. With the way you've treated her, it's no wonder that she wasn't even willing to let you have her ashes after death!"My father stared at the phone, looking stunned. His face had completely drained of color. He said hoarsely, "Vanessa's death has nothing to do with Zoe. Why are you doing this at Zoe's wedding? Don't you know that she has depression and can't get agitated? Vanessa just won't let me have an easy time of it, even when she's dead! She can't compare with Zoe at all!"There was a thump as the bouquet that Cameron was holding fell to the floor. He did not bother to pick it up.He was staring straight at Sasha's phone screen, and he had to grip onto the table to keep himself from falling. However, he gathered himself and said, "We'll talk about Nessa's funeral later. We can't trigger Zoe as well now that Vanessa's gone. Zoe shouldn't have to bear the consequen
