-SIENNA-
It was a double deal at Habanero, my favorite Mexican bar. That means you get two drinks for the price of one. I was spending time with my best friends and drinking something delicious with passion fruit and lime. Life is good.
The bar was a place with dark cream-coloured walls decorated with some Mexican-inspired artwork, such as Frida Kahlo. Along the wall, a long, dark green leather seat is placed facing some tables. With the dim light and the Latin music playing in the background, my mood is good again.
"So, Sienna, are you going to share with us what you talked about with Roger or what?" Michelle gets straight to the point, after taking a sip of her michelada. It's a Mexican beer drink mixed with tomato juice. I find it disgusting, but she seems to love it. "Please don't spare me any details. Do you think I didn't notice that he closed the door? He'd only do that because of a sordid secret. He finally came on to you? I knew it! That man has had a crush on you for ages."
I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. "He has not! I don’t understand why you keep repeating that".
"Mhnnn, keep lying to yourself. I see the way he looks at you when he thinks no one's watching. But seriously, if it wasn't for sex, why the privacy?" she asked.
"He wanted to offer me a promotion," I replied, ignoring the comment about Roger's supposed crush. The man has always been very professional with me. She keeps suggesting this nonsense, and this makes me really uncomfortable.
They yelled, and Harper asked, "What? Are you still going to work with the same team? How much is the pay raise?"
"Wait, wait. There’s a but. The job is in California, and I said no," I replied, sinking further into my seat.
"Oh no! Now I’m sad", Harper sighed.
Even though my friends didn't know the whole story, they knew enough to understand that I would never consider moving to the place where my father probably still lives. I told them about how my grandparents practically threw their pregnant teenage daughter out into the street after she refused to get rid of the baby. It doesn't help that they didn't try to make amends until they died. Coming to live in the same place where my mother was treated so badly is a difficult task.
"Yes, it was a bit disappointing. However, it did my ego good to be considered for the job at all," I ended the topic quickly and went back to my fantastic drink. It got even better with each sip.
"When you called me saying you were desperate to hang out today, I thought you wanted to talk about Matt," Harper changed the subject, raising an eyebrow. "How is that hot husband of yours?"
When I made a pained face and bit my lip, they realized there was something more to be said on the subject.
"Oh no, girl, you didn’t. Spit it out, Sienna," Michelle presses me to speak. "What happened?"
"Well, I was pretty sure we shared a moment the other day. I had some sort of nightmare, and he came to help me wake me up." I remember Matt sitting next to me, wearing only his boxers, and I couldn´t avoid blushing. My cheeks were as red as Michele's tomato drink.
"What kind of moment?" Michelle made clear that she wouldn’t leave the subject until I told her the whole story.
"We were seated on the sofa, talking in the middle of the night, and I thought that he was about to kiss me. Before things went further, I ran off to my room.", I told them.
"Nooo, you chicken out!" Harper blurted out, really disappointed.
"Stop encouraging her, Harper. This would complicate things a lot", Michelle says. "And afterward, did he say anything?"
"There's the thing… The morning after, he behaved like nothing had happened. It made me question if that moment was just a product of my imagination," I explained.
"Do you mean like a dream?" asked Harper.
"Not exactly. I was really awake, but I am not sure now if he was making a move on me or not. Probably he wasn’t even attracted to me as I was to him. Forget it. I’m probably just horny." I answered her.
"Are you crazy? You’re beautiful! Of course, he would be. Maybe he’s gay?" Harper wondered and grabbed a nacho to dip in guacamole.
"No, he’s straight. According to Hank, he had a girlfriend for a long time in Canada. He was planning to propose to her when she broke up with him. But I don’t have any more information," Michelle replied.
I finished my second drink and called the waitress across the room to get another one. I was feeling a little tipsy already, but these things were too delicious to have just two.
"Perhaps you need to date somebody else. You know what? I have a guy for you. He moved to my building recently. I think he is a dentist", Harper changed the topic quickly. I love her, but I hate all these dates that she keeps offering me. How can she know so many losers?
"Nope, not this girl. I have a marriage certificate, remember?" The music changes to Waka Waka by Shakira. I don’t care that they’re playing a Colombian singer in a Mexican bar. I love this song. "Come on! Let’s dance". Nobody is dancing, but I couldn’t care less.
The girls stood up and danced with me just until the song ended, but sat down quickly afterward. They are probably not as drunk as I was.
"I miss going out dancing. We don’t go to clubs anymore." I said, pouting. I think I was a little more drunk than I should. "That's it! We'll go out to that club close to Harper's condo next Friday!"
"We can’t, Sienna. Friday is the first game of the season. We have to go." Michelle reminded me. "You shouldn’t miss the first game of your husband!"
"Are you serious? Is this a rule?" My mind was foggy.
"Yes, honey. Now, no more drinks for you today, okay?" Michelle pushed her glass of water in my direction. "Drink this instead. So, are you coming to the game or what?"
"Okay". I nodded, the bar spinning. "I’ll go."
-SIENNA-In the first game of the season, the Rangers played unbalanced. Passes were missed, sometimes because the players were either too slow or too fast to intercept them. And the puck kept coming back to the other team’s sticks.Somehow, we managed to win. Maybe because Hank scored 3 points, but most likely because Matt barricaded the goal in a way that not even air passed through.By the end of the game, the guys were eager to celebrate the victory. Hank was one of the first players to get out, and he came rushing Michelle and me to go to O’Malleys.O’Malleys was an Irish pub located within walking distance of the arena, which makes it a good place to chill after a game. It was a kind of sports bar, with a cool vibe and a large beer selection. The place was big, with a bar at the entrance, an area with tables, billiards and darts at the back, and the band stage downstairs. Upstairs, it has a more reserved area where the players like to stay.We got ourselves a quiet corner table
-SIENNA-It was Friday night, and I couldn't believe I was going to a hockey game for the second time in my life. Michelle took advantage of my drunkenness last Monday to convince me to go.The first time I attended an ice hockey game was last year, right when Michelle started dating Hank. At the time, we were sitting in the area reserved for wives and girlfriends—or WAGs, as they call them. As I didn't fit into either of these categories, I felt super awkward the whole time. But I was convincing myself that this time would be different.According to Harper, I should have asked Matt for his jersey, but the idea made me very uncomfortable, and I didn't do it. Then Michelle offered me one of her sweaters with Hank's number on it, which I obviously rejected. I chose to wear a black single-front top with a bow at the back of the neck and paired it with black jeans. My hair was loose, with soft curls, and I was wearing light make-up. Before I left the house, I remembered to put on a leathe

-SIENNA- The office was frantic on Monday morning. Everyone on our team was extremely focused on finishing next year's budget—everyone except me. My mind keeps going back to that particular night on the weekend. After that moment Matt and I shared in the early morning hours, I hardly slept. The next day, I was so mortified that I almost skipped my yoga class just to hide from him in my room. In the end, I felt very stupid and went to the kitchen to have my breakfast. I'm always very hungry in the morning. As I was finishing my banana smoothie, Matt came out of his room. This time, in addition to his boxers, he was wearing a T-shirt. If I was expecting an uncomfortable situation, I was wrong. He woke up as grumpy as ever. We exchanged just a few words, and he disappeared to take a shower. I haven't seen him since. His behavior made me realize how mistaken I was to think that the moment had been intimate. Most likely, this attraction is only one-sided. Of course, the guy
-SIENNA-I tossed and turned on my bed for almost two hours, but no matter what I did, I still couldn't sleep. This past week at work was a little hectic. We need to finalize the company’s budget for the next year, and everybody’s stress level is pretty high. The numbers keep changing, and mistakes are constantly happening all over the place. At least the main part of the job is done now, and I was hoping to get a good night's sleep finally. My body was exhausted, but my mind was still refusing to slow down, repeating the numbers and revising spreadsheets mentally. It didn’t help the fact that it was a hot late summer night, and my room was like a sauna. Even with my silk cami and shorts, I was sweating.I gave up trying to sleep and decided to watch a movie instead. I don’t like to watch movies on my laptop, so I headed to the living room to watch TV. I grabbed a cold water bottle and sat comfortably on the sofa. I chose one of my favorite comfort movies, Pride and Prejudice, and put
-MATT-I´m entering the locker room after today's practice when Hank catches me. “Yo, Gruber, Coach wants to talk to you”.I frowned and asked him, “Do you know what it's about?”I can't help worrying. It has been only two months since I was traded here to the Rangers. I've been playing consistently well enough to secure my place as the team's main goalie. But after the s.hit storm that happened last season in Vancouver, no matter what I do, the black cloud always seems to be above my head.Goddamn Anderson. The center player of my old team. The f.ucker was sleeping with my ex-girlfriend after we broke up. I knew it, but that doesn't make it right. He was supposed to score, but he wasn't able to pass the defensemen, and he lost it when Dallas started scoring.I accept that part of the responsibility for the defeat was mine, but the whole team was unbalanced. And as if that wasn't enough, the idiot had to come and provoke a fight in the parking lot. I'm not the type to lose my temper,
