Chapter three

CHAPTER 3

Jolene's POV

It was unbearable, it was as if my body was thrown into the fire. My whole body was uncomfortable, and I couldn't help gasping in pain. I've always thought that one wouldn't feel pain once one died, but it seems to be a lie. It hurts, it hurts so much.

My whole body was as heavy as a lead, I tried to lift my arms but I couldn't, and no matter how much I struggled, my eyes seem to be shut with glue, making me unable to open my eyes.

After what felt like centuries, I was finally able to open my eyes to see a beautiful space. 'It's so beautiful. Heaven is so beautiful.' I thought as my green eyes darted around in curiosity.

I tried to look around without straining my painful neck and soon I realized that I was in space. I was in a room, a very big and beautiful room.

The room was painted and decorated in white, and I suddenly realized that I was lying on the bed. This is crazy, is there a bed in heaven? I thought in bewilderment.

"Princess, you're finally awake!" Two women suddenly rushed to me with excitement.

Looking at their face up close, they looked so gorgeous coupled with the white clothes that made them look like an angel. Beautiful ones.

But… Wait! Did the angels just call me princess, and what do they mean by I'm awake, didn't I die? I parted my lips to ask, but I was unable to say anything because my throat was hoarse.

"Sorry, I'll give you water." One of the angels said in a caring voice that sent a bolt of happy feelings down my spine, but now I was surprised, over-surprised.

My patched throat was better after the cup of water. "Thank you," I uttered.

"You're welcome to Flare Kingdom, Princess." The second woman said with a soft smile.

I furrowed my brows in confusion wondering if Heaven was also divided into different kingdoms and why they were calling me princess.

"Thank you." I appreciated, but before I could ask what I'm curious about, I heard the first angel say, "That's what mother should be doing."

I looked at her in shock and wondered what she was talking about. I tried to sit up but the woman who called herself mother immediately stopped me and told me not to.

"Why did you call yourself mother and am I not dead? Am I still on earth?" I asked in confusion since I wasn't able to decipher everything due to the headache and the pain coursing through my system.

The second angel chuckled in amusement. "No princess, you're not dead, you're still on Earth, of course."

I looked at both of them in disbelief, wondering if they were playing games. I jumped down from a cliff and fell headfirst on a rock, how can I still be alive like they claimed, "But I jumped down from a tall cliff, how am I still alive?" I asked

"That's because you're a royal Lycan." The first woman explained, which sent me into another bout of shock.

"I'm not a weak human being?" My eyes widened in surprise and excitement.

"Yes, princess. You're a royal Lycan. My and your father, the king's child." The first ang- I mean woman who called herself mother, explained.

"What do you mean… I'm your child?"

"Yes princess, I'm sorry, but we lost you during childhood. We searched for you for a long time, but we couldn't find you, we could only find your shoes and accessories littered on the floor." Mom explained with a trace of sincere sadness on her face.

"It's not like you threw me away because you rejected me?" I asked trying hard to fight my excitement

Mother shook her head immediately, "How can we reject you? You're the most precious thing that ever happened to us." Mother explained, which made my eyes watered.

"I… it feels like a dream …" I muttered with a stutter.

Mother interrupted, "It's not…"

"It's just… it's simply unbelievable." I interrupted her with a frown and other feelings that I couldn't understand.

"I've been living like a werewolf all my life until I mistakenly heard that I was a weak human, and now you said I'm a Lycan. How can I believe that?" My voice turned sharp at the end of the words. Unable to explain my current feelings.

"We guess you wouldn't believe it so we made a DNA test to confirm. You can look at it." The second woman explained and brought a paper. It looked different from the papers I'd seen and it was thick like leather.

"Can't DNA be faked?" I suddenly said in sarcasm which caused tears to pool in my mother's eyes. My head lowered in guilt.

"Besides, don't you think that it's possible seeing how you both looked like you were shaped from the perfect mold?" The second woman said.

"Can I get a mirror please?" I asked quietly.

"Yes." The woman replied and in a few minutes I had the mirror in my hand

Even though I didn't want to believe it, I knew she was telling the truth. "How did you save me?" I asked quietly considering that I fell headfirst on a rock.

"I didn't save you, your father did…" Mother revealed

"My real father?" I uttered in shock. I seemed to be getting lots of news that sent me into shock.

"Yes, the lycan king. He smelled your unique royal scent when he was running for his practice in the werewolf pack. He guessed that you must have fallen into the water below the cliff which washed you to the place where your father saw you."

I was surprised by all the explanations but my heart was getting warm because I knew that I wasn't alone anymore; I wasn't rejected also; I wasn't a weak human, instead, I'm a Lycan, a stronger version of a werewolf, "What's a unique royal scent?"

"That's a type of smell only the royal Lycan with the purest blood possesses."

"So, it's not like I'm useless. It's not like I'm weak." I asked tearfully.

"Nonsense! Who said so?" Mother roared in anger but she quieted down and said, "Wait until you awaken your bloodline."

I couldn't help but break down in tears.

The woman who was my mother held out her hand awkwardly with sadness as if to hold my hand.

I slowly nodded to her and a beautiful smile appeared on her angelic face. She immediately pulled me into her embrace and rubbed my back comfortingly.

"It's so comforting under Mom's touch," I muttered with a sigh and sniffed her scent. It was so heavenly and comforting that I couldn't find the energy to cry again. I was filled with happiness.

Mom's face was filled with struggles and hesitation but after a few mins she asked, "But why did you jump down from the cliff?"

Her question made me freeze in her arms and upon remembering all I had gone through in the past few hours, my tears couldn't help falling; Maverick's rejections, the truth behind my identity, and how no one would care about my absence stabbed me cruelly in the heart.

My breath came out in such a hurry that I couldn't help gasping for pain as my heart began to hurt. "Baby! Princess!" Mother called in anxiousness but I had fallen quiet.
