Leo slammed his palm against the steel door like a madman. "Chloe! I know you're in there!"

Earlier, after they dealt with Rex, Leo and Jessica scavenged tools from their place and broke their way out of their apartment.

They took a hidden route through blind spots, stayed out of the zombies' sight, and stumbled up to my door as if they were out of options.

Leo sobbed so hard he could barely breathe. His voice was hoarse and ragged. "Please! Open up. We're dying out here!"

I watched through the peephole. Leo's cheeks were hollow, his eyes were bloodshot, and he looked so thin he could've passed for a skeleton.

Jessica looked even worse. Her hair stuck out in wild tangles, her lips were split and bleeding, and she reeked of sweat.

She screamed through her tears and thudded her fist against the door. "Chloe, it's me, Jessica! We're best friends! You can't just let us die!"
