Lola woke up to silence.

Her body felt heavy, every muscle sore, her skin sensitive as if even the brush of air against her was too much. She tried to move, but a dull ache spread through her hips and thighs, reminding her of everything that had happened just hours ago.

The sheets were tangled around her, damp with sweat. The faint scent of sex clung to the room, thick and undeniable. Her heart skipped a beat when she realized she wasn’t alone.

Ryan sat on the edge of the bed, shirtless, his broad back turned toward her. He was smoking, the ember of his cigarette glowing faintly in the dim morning light. His jaw was tight, his silence sharp, as if his mind was miles away.

On the other side of the bed, Jake lay sprawled out, one arm flung carelessly across the pillow where she’d been pinned hours earlier. His face was calm, lips curled into a lazy smirk even in sleep, like a man entirely satisfied.

The contrast between them made Lola’s stomach twist.

Her throat was dry. “Ryan…” Her voi

The distant howl echoed like a death knell, carrying across the campus night. It wasn’t human, and it wasn’t Killian’s pack. Lola’s chest tightened as the sound dug into her bones, awakening that restless fire she barely contained.Killian didn’t waste a second. He turned, his grip unyielding as he hauled her to her feet. “Get your shoes,” he ordered. She blinked, unsteady, her knees trembling. “Right now? I can barely stand ““Right now.” His tone left no room for argument. His golden eyes were sharp, wolf etched, radiating a danger that made even Liv bite her tongue.Lola’s gaze darted to her friend, who still looked half stunned, half-furious. “Liv” “I’ll… clean up,” Liv muttered, though her glare burned holes into Killian’s back. “You better not break her.”Killian gave her nothing but silence as he led Lola out into the night. The campus was quiet, eerie even. Most of the students were either asleep or out partying, blissfully unaware of the shadows that had nearly ripped throug

The echo of shattering glass silenced everything else. The hum of the air conditioner, Liv’s faint groans, even Lola’s frantic heartbeat all of it was swallowed by the weight of impending violence.Killian’s body tensed in front of her, tall and broad like a shield made of muscle and fury. His claws gleamed in the dim dorm light, catching the faint golden glow still flickering from Lola’s hands.“Stay behind me,” he ordered, low and lethal.Lola’s throat tightened. Every part of her screamed to argue this was her room, her life being invaded but the memory of flames shooting from her fingers still haunted her. She didn’t know if she was more dangerous to the intruders… or to herself.A second crash. This one closer. A window down the hall.Killian’s nostrils flared, catching a scent only he could track. His lips peeled back into a snarl. “Shadows.”The word made Lola’s skin crawl. Before she could ask, the door rattled violently. Once. Twice. Then it burst open with a force that splin

The intruder’s shadows recoiled slightly at Killian’s arrival, as though even darkness recognized the danger standing in the doorway.Lola’s fire still burned at her fingertips, trembling with exhaustion, yet refusing to die down. She looked from the stranger to Killian, her heart racing, torn between terror and a strange, raw exhilaration. The man chuckled, the sound sharp as shattered glass. “So the wolf thinks he can protect her. Adorable.”Killian’s growl reverberated through the room, low and primal. “Leave, before I tear you apart.”The man tilted his head, considering, then drew the hood fully back. His face was pale, unnervingly smooth, but the veins crawling along his jaw pulsed black as if corruption itself had taken root beneath his skin. His eyes were a void, swallowing the faint light that dared touch them.“I didn’t come to fight you,” he said calmly, though his shadows writhed like restless serpents. “I came for her.”He pointed directly at Lola.Something inside Killia

The dorm was too quiet.Lola sat at the edge of her bed, hands curled into the sheets, staring at the faint red glow still lingering in her skin. It had dulled to almost nothing, but her palms burned like she’d touched a live wire. She tried to breathe steadily, but every inhale rattled with the memory of Liv’s terrified eyes. She didn’t hear the door open.“Lola.”Her head snapped up. Liv stood there, her hoodie pulled tight around her frame, face pale but eyes locked on Lola with stubborn fire.“You can’t just brush this off,” Liv said, voice trembling but strong. She stepped inside, shutting the door firmly behind her. “I saw what I saw. I don’t care if you try to deny it or hide it you need to explain.”Lola’s stomach dropped.“I… I don’t know how to explain it,” she whispered.“That’s not good enough.” Liv’s arms folded tightly across her chest. “You had your hands were glowing. Like fire but not. Like… magic or something.” Her voice cracked on the last word, as though saying it

The claws came down. But at the very last second, Damien twisted, rolling with a surge of sheer desperation. The strike missed his chest by inches, tearing into the earth instead. The ground split open like paper, dust and stone flying into the air.Lola gasped in relief but it was short lived. Damien was slower now, blood pouring from his wounds. His body moved on instinct, not strength. Every breath looked like it hurt. The intruder laughed, the sound echoing through the courtyard. “You can dodge once, maybe twice. But you’re running out of time.” He kicked Damien hard in the ribs, sending him sprawling across the cracked pavement.“No…” Lola pressed her hand against the glass, trembling so hard she could barely stand. “Get up, Damien, please get up.”He struggled to his knees, gripping the hilt of his blade with shaking hands. For the first time, his eyes flicked up to hers. They glowed faintly, dimmer than before, but still steady. A silent message burned in them don’t give up on

The dorm room felt too small, the air too thin, as Lola watched Damien stalk toward the door like a predator circling prey. His shoulders were squared, his hand hovering just inches from the handle, but he didn’t open it.“Who is it?” Lola whispered, her voice barely a thread of sound.Damien didn’t answer. His jaw was tight, his eyes dark with calculation. Slowly, he raised a finger to his lips, signaling her to stay silent.Another knock. The same rhythm three sharp, two quick.Lola’s skin prickled with unease. “That pattern… what does it mean?” she finally asked, unable to bear the silence.Damien glanced over his shoulder at her. The look in his eyes made her stomach drop. “It’s a mark. A warning.”Before Lola could press further, a voice floated through the door. Low. Taunting. Male.“Thought you could hide forever, Damien? Even in a college dorm?”Her pulse jumped. Whoever was on the other side knew his name.Damien’s hand gripped the doorknob, knuckles white. “Lola, step back.
