ZANDER'S POV
If someone had told me this morning that my life was about to become a complete disaster, I would've laughed right in their face. It’s senior year and it’s supposed to be the best year. One last chance to act like idiots before facing the harsh reality. Instead, all of that got ripped away the moment my supposed “best friend,” Tristian, announced he was switching rooms. Which means I’ll be spending the entire year with only God knows who. Everything about the situations made my skin crawl.
I headed towards my dorm, thanking every god existing for keeping Jayden occupied with whatever shit I could care less about for the entire week. At least being roommates with him was crossed out of the equation. Just as I reached for the handle, someone shouted my name from across the hallway.
“ZANDER BOO!”
I turned to see Tristian jogging toward me with his signature sneaky grin across his face. The smirk on my face disappeared instantly, replaced by a scowl sharp enough to pierce holes into his skull.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” he laughed, holding up his hands. “Who pissed off Mr. Senior this fine afternoon?” I rolled my eyes so hard they almost disappeared into the back of my head. As much as Tristian was my only friend, leaving me to be paired with someone I don’t know for an entire year was an actual criminal offense.
“You absolute piece of shit!” I snapped. “How could you do this to me? After all the times I’ve saved your dumb ass from getting into trouble?” So close to smacking that smug grin from his face. He just shrugged and flung his arm around my shoulder and said
“Relax dude. It’s not like you’re going to get married or have sex with your NEW roomie.” You can hear the teasing under his voice. I ignored him and opened the room because I was done talking about this and anything else relating to this stranger I didn’t know about and honestly? A stranger was better than being with Jayden.
As punishment for getting me stuck with an anonymous person, I locked Tristian in the room and forced him to unpack all my clothes and arrange the entire room even the other person’s side, though.
Tristian had barely finished folding one of my shirts before I picked it up and unfolded it right in front of him.
"No."
He blinked and stared at me like a second head had popped on my shoulder.
"Zander...what?"
"Do it again."
He shouted so dramatically that I was surprised the whole room didn't come down.
"You fold like you're angry."
He looked me dead in the eyes.
"I am angry you piece of candy sweet." He immediately changed his words and I chuckled. We continued bickering back and forth
Two hours flew by, and Tristian ended up sprawled across the floor, panting like he’d just ran an actual marathon. I crouched beside him, smirked, patted his hair, and hauled him back to his feet.
“Come on,” I said. “You’ve still got a whole lot of the stuff to do.”
It was night time by the time we were done and it was time for me to finally get some shut eye. My phone suddenly rang and I saw it was my sister calling, I picked it up and flopped down on my bed.
“Why do you look like you just managed to crawl out of hell?” My sister said, chuckling. “You can’t even believe what happened.” I began to tell her about how Tristian did me dirty and how I’m going to be dormmates with an actual stranger. She couldn’t stop laughing about the whole situation, calling me a dramatic. “Why do you even seem so pissed? You don’t know if he’s gonna be a new blessing to you” I choked on air because there’s literally no saint in this school, even demons would take lessons from the students. The topic finally left him and she started telling me about mom and home. I listened, my eyes growing heavier with every passing word leaving her mouth and I didn’t even know I was gone till I heard my sister softly bid me a goodnight and end the call.
I heard a LOUD knock that startled the hell out of me and I was swearing under my breath till I yanked the door open,
“who hell is…”
Standing there is the bane of my existence--- Jayden Sinclair, looking like he was created and chiseled specially by the Greek gods. His hair dark like midnight, his two shaded eyes which I always found alluring or was it his veiny arms I strangely imagined what it would feel like around my……
“Hell no,” Jayden said, snapping me back into the tragic reality we were facing, like I was some sort of allergic reaction he immediately needed to get away from. “What the fuck are you doing in MY room Zander?”
I looked at him with wide eyes, “Your room? You weren’t meant to be here till next week and I was meant to have anyone BUT you as my roommate.”
I heard laughter and I saw it was coming from him. Jayden was actually laughing like a maniac in my front. I genuinely was drained and couldn’t even be assed with this by 3AM. I left him standing at the door and went back to my bed, draping my sheets over me because I couldn’t start arguing with a thick skulled person like him, it would actually drain every light in me. So I did what I knew how to do best. I closed my eyes, forgetting about his choking presence and slept like I hadn’t just signed up for the worst school year experience.
JAYDEN’s POVBy the time I got back to the dorm after stalling to avoid talking with Zander tonight, the hallway was dead quiet, probably because everyone was tipsy as hell. I finally stopped in front of the dorm door and unlocked it. The only light in the room came from the moon reflecting through. I shut the door as quietly as I could and looked toward the other side of the room when I heard shuffling.“Zander.” He was turned away from me, curled up beneath the blanket with his back facing the room. It looked like he had fell asleep moments ago. For a second, I just stood there.I couldn’t tell if he was asleep or pretending to be so I finally shifted gaze to scan through the room.My hoodie and most of my stuffs were sprawled on my bed.I frowned.“He’d moved all my stuffs from his side of the room, huh?” I said as I felt myself get a bit irritated by the thought of it.I picked it up the hoodie, brushing my thumb over the sleeve before tossing it onto my chair.“Guess this means h
ZANDER’s POVStanding at the corner of the room, looking like the lost one here, I spot Jayden at the center of the room, surrounded by a girl and another guy.“How amusing.” I muttered to myself “I should’ve been in the dorm resting from this stressful as fuck semester.” I groaned in distress.Just as I was about to walk up to Jayden to tell him I was leaving, a man who looked to be in his late twenties walked up to me.“Hi. Excuse me…?” I stared at him because there’s no way he could be talking to me.“Um……are you talking to me?” I pointed at myself and looked up to still find him staring and standing in my front.“Yeah…. don’t think an old man like me should be here?” He said with a hint of teasing under his tone.“It’s not that.” I giggled because his demeanor and his way of speaking didn’t sound or look similar.“It doesn’t look like you’re interested in being here at all.”“Well, I wouldn’t willing come to a party.” I looked around, “My fri—roommate forced me here.”“Who?”I sea
JAYDEN’s POVThe party was already in full swing by the time I finished getting ready.Music pounded through the walls of the dorm, voices echoing from down the hallway. People laughing, shouting, as the alcohol had already taken over them. I grabbed my phone and wallet before glancing toward the bathroom.“Are you done yet, Princess?” I called out to Zander, waiting for him to finish preparing.“Don’t call me Princess, asshole?” Zander shouted out from the bathroomThe door finally clicked open and for a second, my brain completely stopped working.Zander stepped out, adjusting the sleeve of a black lacey shirt with pearls decorating its neck and they hugged his arms before disappearing beneath fitted leather pants. The fabric revealed just enough of his skin to make looking away impossible. His silver necklace rested against his collarbone, a few rings decorated his fingers, and dark eyeliner framed his eyes perfectly. His lips had the slightest tint to them and his hair was styled
ZANDER’s POVI couldn’t sleep after what I just saw.Jayden had mumbled something under his breath before taking his towel to the bathroom. I wasn’t paying attention at first because my eyes were already half closed, begging for sleep after spending the entire evening working on our project. I’d heard the bathroom door open and Jayden stepped out. He made shuffling sounds as he raised up his shirt and out of instinct, my eyes cracked open for only a second and I immediately felt my entire body go pale.I saw bruises. Not one.Not two.My stomach sank. The bruises stretched across his back in uneven patches, some dark enough to make my skin crawl, others faded into sickly shades of yellow and green. I couldn’t even tell where one ended and the next began. Before he could turn back, I pressed my eyes shut and slowed my breathing, pretending I’d been asleep the whole time. Opening my eyes now would mean admitting I’d seen something I wasn’t supposed to and I didn’t think Jayden was rea
JAYDEN’s POV“You sure you don’t want to add anything else?” I glanced at the finished tattoo before looking at my new artist.“I’m good.”He wiped the excess ink away before stepping back to admire his work. “Looks clean.”I hummed in response, barely paying attention to him or anything else. The sting of the needle had long been replaced by the dull ache spreading across my arm. The words on my skin made me feel a different type of way. It was reclaiming a part of my self my father has cut away from me.“Just keep the bandage on for a few hours,” he said. “Wash it gently when you get home and NO scratching.”I nodded my head already up and planning to leave his studio. He chuckled.I pulled my shirt back on carefully, trying not to let the fabric brush against the fresh ink. He probably thought I was some masochist, considering how I barely reacted during the whole process and how I’m moving now. It still burned, but it was nothing compared to the hours I’d spent training with my fa
ZANDER’s POVAfter the whole shit that happened today? All I needed was to get halfway through this project and go home for the weekend. A little time away from Jayden and his friends.Speaking of the devil, he entered the room. I didn’t even want to say anything to him or even look at him right now because everything about him just kept reminding me about the cafeteria and I couldn’t start pretending like I was in the mood.“You came back.”I felt my blood boil and any little hope I had of us becoming neutral totally evaporate. How could this be the first he says to me after acting like I didn’t even exist. Even if he hated my guts, a simple apology— or at least some sign that he gave a damn would’ve been enough. “About the project.” I changed the topic. I just needed us to work on it today and finish some of it so we could get away from each other. “We should decide the parts we’re going to cover before you leave for the weekend.”I know I sounded like an asshole, but I didn’t ca
