LOGINChapter Five
Liam Lancaster ~•~ My eyes were still closed. I stretched my arms to the other end of the bed, trying to find the lady I had spent the night with. But the sheets were empty. I opened my eyes immediately. Where did she go? I got out of bed and checked the bathroom but I couldn’t find her. All her things were gone. Letting out a deep sigh, I sat down on the bed, running a hand through my hair. We had a really crazy night and I wasn’t surprised that she left without telling me. Maybe she was embarrassed by sleeping with a stranger. But I wasn’t embarrassed by sleeping with her, I had a good time. I didn’t even get her name. A mischievous smirk plastered across my lips as I remembered everything that happened the previous night. The only thing I could think about at that moment was her. I needed to find her number or something. I picked up my stuff and drove back to the bar. It was a good thing I owned the bar and had access to the security footage. It didn’t take long before I discovered who she was. Abby Hale. Such a lovely name. My chest warmed unexpectedly. I sent her name to my private investigator and asked him to find her number. While I waited for feedback, I drove back home. When I pulled up to the driveway, a relieved sigh escaped my lips when I saw that my brother’s car wasn’t parked there. At least, the house would be peaceful. When I got inside, I saw my parents in the living room. “Your brother resumed as the company’s new CEO today, but you didn’t even care to show up last night,” my mother nagged as I walked to the stairs. I didn’t say anything, I kept on walking. “Liam!” My father’s thunderous voice echoed through the living room. “Your mother is speaking to you, don’t you have the decency to stand back and listen to her?” I held back a scoff. Did they really expect me to stand and listen to them compare me to Landon for the millionth time? “Good morning to you two, I hope you have a great day,” I said sarcastically before heading over to my room. A relieved sigh escaped my lips when I closed the door behind me. I didn’t care if Landon became president, the king of the universe, or whatever title they wanted to give him. I was tired of living in his shadow and being compared to him. We were just twins, we didn’t have to be the same people or have the same job. I dropped my keys on the nightstand and pulled off my shirt. I was ready to take a shower and wash off the exhaustion from last night when my phone started ringing. I reached out to it, half-expecting it to be my private investigator, but I let out a disappointed sigh when I saw it was from Jordan. “Hey, what’s up?” I asked, my voice rough. It wasn’t like I wasn’t excited to hear from my best friend, I just didn’t expect him to call me so early in the morning. And I’d rather have the PI calling me. “Dude, please tell me you’re awake,” he groaned through the phone. “I need you at the studio like right now.” I frowned. “The studio? Why? Isn’t it too early for a shoot?” A dramatic sigh left his lips. “The model is leaving town earlier than expected. And I need this shoot badly, so she agreed to come this morning.” I rubbed my palm across my forehead. Photography. This was the job my parents hated. According to them, it wasn’t a real career. It was just a hobby that would waste my time. Another perfect reason to compare me to my brother, the new CEO. I wasn’t even interested in the family’s business. I had other things bringing me money, I just focused on photography because it was something I started with my best friend and I couldn’t leave him hanging. It wasn’t a source of income for me, it was just like a distraction. But still, I needed to take it seriously because Jordan always acted like his life depended on it. “Can’t you just get another model?” Jordan scoffed. “Not everyone is a billionaire like you, or even has billionaire parents. I need this model to take our studio next level.” I knew that if I didn’t agree, he would give me a long lecture about the importance of photography. “Fine,” I responded with a defeated sigh. “I’ll see you soon.” After the call ended, I showered, got dressed, and grabbed my car keys, then I made my way downstairs. “You just arrived and you’re leaving again?” My mother asked, stunned. “Why can’t you be like Landon?” A long breath escaped my lips as I looked at her. Wasn’t she tired of saying the same thing over and over again? “I’m going to the studio, I’ll see you later.” It was a good thing my father had left the living room, or he would have found a way to keep me there for a while longer. I had no idea how I even put up with both of them. Everyone always wondered why two men who were badass in every other area of their lives still lived with their parents. But no one could ever understand how it felt growing up in the Lancaster house — a controlling father and a perfectionist mother. I had tried to move out a few times, but they all didn’t end well. As long as my father still wanted me around, I had no other option but to stay. It was really complicated. I drove out of the house as fast as I could. All I wanted to think about was Abby Hale… and not my parents’ obsession with turning me into Landon 2.0. Just as I arrived at the studio, my phone buzzed with a text. It was from my private investigator. He had sent me Abby’s number. I texted her immediately. [ You disappeared this morning, was the sex that terrible? Did you get home safely?] I waited for a while for her to respond. And she did. But I wasn’t prepared for what she replied with.Chapter 101Abby Hale ~•~ “You can’t be serious, Abby!” Liam scoffed, folding his arms and staring at me in disbelief. “You should be channeling this anger to your brother instead, not me,” I replied, my voice defensive. Liam had already planned how we would celebrate Valentine’s together for the past few weeks. But I had no idea that Landon had other plans. Liam still didn’t know that Landon and I never broke up. And Landon wanted to spend Valentine’s with me, so he planned a work trip over the Valentine’s weekend. “Can’t you just stand up for yourself for once and say no to him?” he demanded, his voice filled with frustration. “He’s always threatening you with losing your job.” The truth was that I also wanted to go on the supposed business trip with Landon. He didn’t actually threaten me with my job, that part was just a lie. “It’s a business trip, Liam. I’ll be back before you even know it,” I replied, trying to convince him that it wasn’t a big deal. “You can have me all
Chapter 100Abby Hale ~•~ “Took you long enough.” I rolled my eyes at Liam when he finally picked me up. I’d called Landon earlier when I got arrested, but he was busy. He told me that Liam promised to take care of it. But I’d been at the station for so long without seeing any sign of him. It was almost dark before he came to pick me up. Cora had already left. And she was the reason why I ended up there. “Abby!” Liam replied with a deep exhale. “Don’t say a word until we get to your house.” I could tell he was upset. But his best friend was present, and maybe he didn’t want to talk about the situation in front of him. The ride back home was long.He had to drop Jordan off at his apartment first. When Jordan left, I expected Liam to say something, but he didn’t. I didn’t say anything either. I just rested my head on the window and looked outside. As I sat there, the memories of our fight replayed in my head. When I first hit Cora, I didn’t expect her to retaliate. I mean, s
Chapter 99Liam Lancaster ~•~ “What do you mean?” I asked, my voice laced with disbelief. I just hoped I hadn’t heard Landon correctly. “Abby is at the station?” “Yes, Liam. She got into a fight with Cora and the cops arrested them,” he replied, the exhaustion palpable in his voice. I shook my head in disappointment. What was she doing with Cora? She had been making bad decisions lately. I knew that whatever reconciliation party they were having wasn’t going to end well. And she told me I was overreacting when I got angry because she hung out with Cora. “What are they saying? Are you with her?” I asked, dragging a hand down my face. “No,” Landon sighed. “I’m having an important meeting that I can’t miss, and I need you to pick her up from the station.”This happened at the wrong time. “I’ll try calling her sister, I can’t pick her up right now,” I replied swiftly. “Thank you for calling me.” Landon scoffed. “You can’t pick her up? What’s more important than your girlfriend
Chapter 98Abby Hale ~•~ Landon left my house without doing anything. I wouldn’t lie, I was disappointed. But he knew I was really tired and decided to reschedule. After he left, I went over to my room, had a long shower, changed into my nightwear, and drifted off to sleep. The next morning, I woke up to a thousand calls from Liam. My heart skipped a beat. I called him back immediately. Did something happen? Why did he call me so many times? The call didn’t connect the first few times, but I kept trying. When he finally answered, I let out a relieved sigh. At least, he was alive and that was all that mattered. “Liam, is everything okay?” I asked, my breath uneven. “Why did you call me so many times?” I added curiously. Liam let out a sharp exhale. “I can’t believe you Abby,” he finally responded after a few seconds. “I honestly can’t believe you.” I blinked. What did I do? “You can’t believe me? What happened?” I asked, rubbing my sleepy eyes. “What is going on?”He scoff
Chapter 97Abby Hale ~•~ As I got into my car, I let out a deep exhale. The campaign was finally over. But I was exhausted. And upset. Landon made me do the advertisement myself. I refused at first, but he told me that I had to do it because I was the perfect fit after the main model disappointed us. As usual, he threatened me with my job. I was sick of him constantly using it against me. Maybe it was time for me to find another job. The work environment was becoming too toxic for me. But I loved my job and it wasn’t easy to let go. I mean, I would be starting from scratch in a new company. The thought of it was scary. I let out another deep breath, then I started the car and pulled out of the driveway. When I got back home, I showered and changed into a more comfortable outfit. Then I made my way to my mom’s house. She wanted to have dinner with my sister and me. It was still early, but I knew that if I didn’t leave, it was possible that I would accidentally fall asle
Chapter 96Abby Hale ~•~ “Happy New Year!” I yelled as I pulled my mom and sister into a tight embrace. Spending the holiday with them was the best decision ever. But I knew I still had to FaceTime Liam and Landon in a few minutes to wish them a happy New Year. “Happy New Year, Abby. Happy New Year, Mia,” my mom said as she planted soft kisses on our foreheads. “I hope that it’s going to be the best year for us,” Mia added as we broke the hug. I hoped so too. Soon enough, everyone went back to their bedroom, but I remained in the living room. I dialed Liam’s number first. The call connected instantly. “Hey, baby. Happy New Year, Abby!” He yelled loud enough for me to hear through the music. Liam wasn’t kidding when he told me that he would spend the evening at the club. “Happy New Year, Liam,” I replied with a wide smile plastered across my face. We talked for a while, but I had to end the call because the distraction from the club was too much and too loud to ignore. I
