Chapter Five

Liam Lancaster

~•~

My eyes were still closed.

I stretched my arms to the other end of the bed, trying to find the lady I had spent the night with.

But the sheets were empty.

I opened my eyes immediately.

Where did she go?

I got out of bed and checked the bathroom but I couldn’t find her. All her things were gone.

Letting out a deep sigh, I sat down on the bed, running a hand through my hair. We had a really crazy night and I wasn’t surprised that she left without telling me.

Maybe she was embarrassed by sleeping with a stranger. But I wasn’t embarrassed by sleeping with her, I had a good time.

I didn’t even get her name.

A mischievous smirk plastered across my lips as I remembered everything that happened the previous night.

The only thing I could think about at that moment was her. I needed to find her number or something.

I picked up my stuff and drove back to the bar. It was a good thing I owned the bar and had access to the security footage.

It didn’t take long before I discovered who she was.

Abby Hale.

Such a lovely name.

My chest warmed unexpectedly.

I sent her name to my private investigator and asked him to find her number.

While I waited for feedback, I drove back home. When I pulled up to the driveway, a relieved sigh escaped my lips when I saw that my brother’s car wasn’t parked there.

At least, the house would be peaceful.

When I got inside, I saw my parents in the living room. “Your brother resumed as the company’s new CEO today, but you didn’t even care to show up last night,” my mother nagged as I walked to the stairs.

I didn’t say anything, I kept on walking.

“Liam!” My father’s thunderous voice echoed through the living room. “Your mother is speaking to you, don’t you have the decency to stand back and listen to her?”

I held back a scoff. Did they really expect me to stand and listen to them compare me to Landon for the millionth time?

“Good morning to you two, I hope you have a great day,” I said sarcastically before heading over to my room.

A relieved sigh escaped my lips when I closed the door behind me.

I didn’t care if Landon became president, the king of the universe, or whatever title they wanted to give him. I was tired of living in his shadow and being compared to him.

We were just twins, we didn’t have to be the same people or have the same job. I dropped my keys on the nightstand and pulled off my shirt.

I was ready to take a shower and wash off the exhaustion from last night when my phone started ringing.

I reached out to it, half-expecting it to be my private investigator, but I let out a disappointed sigh when I saw it was from Jordan.

“Hey, what’s up?” I asked, my voice rough.

It wasn’t like I wasn’t excited to hear from my best friend, I just didn’t expect him to call me so early in the morning.

And I’d rather have the PI calling me.

“Dude, please tell me you’re awake,” he groaned through the phone. “I need you at the studio like right now.”

I frowned. “The studio? Why? Isn’t it too early for a shoot?”

A dramatic sigh left his lips. “The model is leaving town earlier than expected. And I need this shoot badly, so she agreed to come this morning.”

I rubbed my palm across my forehead.

Photography. This was the job my parents hated. According to them, it wasn’t a real career. It was just a hobby that would waste my time. Another perfect reason to compare me to my brother, the new CEO.

I wasn’t even interested in the family’s business. I had other things bringing me money, I just focused on photography because it was something I started with my best friend and I couldn’t leave him hanging.

It wasn’t a source of income for me, it was just like a distraction. But still, I needed to take it seriously because Jordan always acted like his life depended on it.

“Can’t you just get another model?”

Jordan scoffed. “Not everyone is a billionaire like you, or even has billionaire parents. I need this model to take our studio next level.”

I knew that if I didn’t agree, he would give me a long lecture about the importance of photography.

“Fine,” I responded with a defeated sigh. “I’ll see you soon.”

After the call ended, I showered, got dressed, and grabbed my car keys, then I made my way downstairs.

“You just arrived and you’re leaving again?” My mother asked, stunned. “Why can’t you be like Landon?”

A long breath escaped my lips as I looked at her. Wasn’t she tired of saying the same thing over and over again?

“I’m going to the studio, I’ll see you later.”

It was a good thing my father had left the living room, or he would have found a way to keep me there for a while longer.

I had no idea how I even put up with both of them.

Everyone always wondered why two men who were badass in every other area of their lives still lived with their parents.

But no one could ever understand how it felt growing up in the Lancaster house — a controlling father and a perfectionist mother.

I had tried to move out a few times, but they all didn’t end well. As long as my father still wanted me around, I had no other option but to stay.

It was really complicated.

I drove out of the house as fast as I could.

All I wanted to think about was Abby Hale… and not my parents’ obsession with turning me into Landon 2.0.

Just as I arrived at the studio, my phone buzzed with a text. It was from my private investigator.

He had sent me Abby’s number.

I texted her immediately.

[ You disappeared this morning, was the sex that terrible? Did you get home safely?]

I waited for a while for her to respond.

And she did.

But I wasn’t prepared for what she replied with.

Chapter 63Abby Hale ~•~ “You’re dating the boss, you don’t have to show up to work early,” Landon teased as he got out of bed. He spent the night at my place, but had to leave before the day got bright because he needed time to prepare for work. I laughed, my voice slightly groggy. “It seems like you want the board to come after us again.” Landon smirked. “They don’t have any proof.” I sat upright and pushed my hair back. “Thank you for last night.” He paused and looked at me. “What do you mean?” I blushed. “I don’t know… last night was amazing,” I admitted, my voice quiet. “We did things that we had never done before.” He nodded. “Yeah… I just wanted to spice things up a little bit.” “We should do it more often.” “Of course.” After Landon left, I slept for a few more hours. My alarm clock woke me up and I forced myself out of bed. I dragged my feet into the bathroom. I almost drifted off to sleep in the bathtub. “God. I really wish I could take the day off,” I muttere

Chapter 62Abby Hale ~•~“Open your legs for me and touch yourself.” Landon’s voice came out low and rough, like he’d been holding it back too long.I was already on the bed, back pressed to the headboard, knees bent, and thighs squeezed together like that could hide how wet I was. We had already done so much foreplay. Landon had teased me for a few minutes and my pussy was already dripping. His eyes were dark and hungry and he looked at me like he was about to devour me. I wanted that too. But now, he asked me to touch myself. I swallowed hard and slowly let my knees fall apart. Landon didn’t move from the chair across the room, his eyes locked onto mine as if nothing else existed. “Touch it, baby.” His voice was quieter but the command was still sharp. Hearing him tell me what to do turned me on even more. “Show me how you want me to touch you.” I slid my hand down, past my stomach. I paused for a moment and looked at him. Embarrassment burned up my neck but the heat betwee

Chapter 61Landon Lancaster ~•~I was angry at Liam. His plan to sabotage Abby and me didn’t work. But I was still upset. What if it had worked? And I also wanted him to think that we had broken up, so I let my anger show and punched him as soon as he stepped into the living room. Liam was taken aback. He probably wasn’t expecting the punch. “What is wrong with you, Landon?” He asked after I had hit him twice. I scoffed bitterly. “What is wrong with me?” Was he seriously asking me that question? Had he forgotten about what he did so quickly? I was about to hit him again but he pushed me back. I paused for a while to catch my breath. I wiped the corner of my mouth with the back of my hand. Then I lunged forward again before he could say anything. It was a good thing he couldn’t escape it. My fist connected with his nose. Liam stumbled back, barely managing to stay on his feet. The sound of the impact echoed through the quiet room. “Next time, you’ll mind your business w

Chapter 60Liam Lancaster ~•~I sat down on Abby’s porch. I was serious about not leaving until she opened the door. But I hoped that she would listen and actually open it because I hadn’t really thought my plan through. At first, I thought I’d finally cracked through and she would open the door, but I gasped in shock when she closed the curtains. But at least, she wasn’t with Landon anymore. As I sat down there, I dialed her number. She didn’t respond. Instead, she sent me a text. [You're going to get insect bites. I think you should go home and stop wasting your time here.] My heart broke. Was she being serious? I’d just poured my whole heart into her and she still didn’t have any sympathy for me. I knew I had done something wrong but she was being heartless. I stood up and walked to the window. “Open the door, Abby.” It sounded more like a command than a plea. “Or what?” She scoffed. She didn’t bother to open the curtains. “I’m begging you, Abby.” Before she coul

Chapter 59Abby Hale ~•~“Abby, please open up the door,” Liam begged, his voice dripping with desperation. “Please, Abby.” I crossed my legs and turned up the volume of the television. I pretended like I was focused on the show that was playing, but the whole time I was thinking about Liam. I was tempted to let him inside, but I hated the fact that he lied to me. He was trying to act like he had no idea what he did. He didn’t only try to sabotage my relationship with Landon, he tampered with my job and I couldn’t let something like that slide. “Abby, please.” His desperate voice came through again. “I can explain. Just open the door.” I let out a deep exhale, rubbing my temple. Then I made my way to the window. We could see each other from there. “Just leave, stop wasting your time.” There was no trace of warmth in my voice. Liam’s face fell. “Come on, Abby. I can explain.” I shook my head. “No, you had your chance to explain but you chose to lie to me and pretend like you d

Chapter 58Liam Lancaster ~•~I stayed at the staircase and listened to the conversation between my parents and Landon. A satisfied smirk plastered across my face when I heard that his relationship with Abby was over. But it wasn’t that easy to believe. My goal was to cause a rift between them and make sure they both had a difficult ultimatum, but I didn’t think they would give up so easily. For all I knew, Landon could be lying to my parents. I needed to hear it from Abby’s mouth, but I didn’t know how to ask her about it. Landon had been calling my phone throughout the day. He must’ve figured out that it was me who tipped of the board members and also found a way to start the gossip about their relationship at the office. I wasn’t ready for his confrontation, so I declined all his calls. I knew I couldn’t hide from him forever, but I wanted to stay away until he cooled down. Not like I was scared of my brother or anything, I just didn’t want to cause any unnecessary drama.
