Karma's POV

Saturday came quietly.

For the first time in what felt like forever, I woke up without an alarm, without a call from the hospital and without someone demanding my attention before I had even opened my eyes.

I lay in bed for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling, and beside me, Noah was still asleep, the room was quiet, peaceful, normal and I had almost forgotten what normal felt like, almost.

My thoughts drifted despite myself. Richardson Vance.

The name appeared in my mind without

  • Dr. KILLER    Chapter 185

Karma’s POVThe months that followed were more exhausting than I had imagined. Investigations continued, court proceedings dragged on, and the truth behind everything that had happened at Save the Needy Hospital slowly came to light.Nile was taken to a psychiatric facility, and I remember visiting him once. It was one of the strangest and most disturbing experiences of my life. One moment, he behaved like Noah, the husband who had loved and cared for me, speaking gently and looking at me with an affection that almost made me forget the monster beneath the familiar face. The next moment, he would become Nile, laughing cynically and staring at me with an unsettling expression that reminded me of everything he had done.Sometimes, I wondered whether the man I had loved had ever truly existed, or whether I had simply fallen in love with a carefully constructed lie.The police, working alongside the FBI, eventually uncovered the people who had been working with Nile, both within the hospi

  • Dr. KILLER    Chapter 184

Karma's POVI stared at him, trying to recognize his face through the confusion. Then it came to me.He was one of Helena's men."You're here," I breathed, relief flooding through me so suddenly that my knees nearly gave way. "How did you find me?""We'll explain later, ma'am. We need to get you out of here."I didn't argue. I followed them into the corridor, where the chaos was even worse. Men were shouting, doors stood open, and several officers were moving.I needed to find Auntie Grace."Where is she?" I demanded as we moved. "Did you find her? Is she alive?""She's in a secured area with the others. We're taking you there now."The words were barely out of his mouth before I quickened my pace, desperate to reach her. We passed through another corridor and entered a larger room where several women and girls were gathered under the supervision of Helena's team. Some were crying, others sat silently with frightened expressions, and a few looked so exhausted that they barely reacted

  • Dr. KILLER    Chapter 183

Karma’s POVI followed Nile down the corridor, keeping a careful distance between us while trying to memorize every turn we took. The building was larger than I had expected, with several interconnected rooms and narrow passageways that seemed to lead deeper into the compound. The farther we went, the more uneasy I became. I had no idea where he was taking me, and although I kept looking for an opportunity to escape, I couldn't risk doing anything that might endanger Auntie Grace.Nile walked as though he owned every inch of the place. Occasionally, one of his men appeared from a doorway, nodded at him, and disappeared again without asking questions. The confidence with which they obeyed him made it clear that this wasn't an ordinary hideout. Then I heard the voices. At first, they were faint, almost indistinguishable from the sounds of people talking in another room. But as we approached a junction in the corridor, the voices became clearer. I heard a woman sobbing, followed by a fri

  • Dr. KILLER    Chapter 182

Karma's POVThe journey to the address Nile had sent me felt longer than it should have. I kept checking the streets through the window, trying to memorize the route, while my thoughts returned repeatedly to Auntie Grace. Was he planning to explain himself, demand something from me, or simply enjoy watching me struggle? Knowing him, it could have been all three. When the car finally stopped, I looked through the window at the building ahead. It was an isolated structure with little activity around it, and nothing about its exterior suggested what might be happening inside. I couldn't see Auntie Grace, and I had no way of knowing how many people Nile had stationed there.I got out and approached the entrance, my heart beating faster with every step.I had barely reached the doorway when two armed men emerged from the side of the building. Before I could ask who they were or explain why I had come, one seized my arm while the other grabbed me from behind."Let go of me!" I snapped, stru

  • Dr. KILLER    CHAPTER 181

Karma’s POVI had read Nile’s message so many times that I could practically recite every word without looking at my phone. The address was clear, and so was his warning. He wanted me to come alone, but if I brought another person, Auntie Grace would pay for it with her life. He had made it painfully obvious that he was willing to do whatever it took to get what he wanted from me.I couldn't afford to ignore him. Not when Auntie Grace was still missing, and I had no idea what he was doing to her or how much time she had left.Tonight, I was going to meet him.Helena and Yvonne couldn't know.Helena would never allow me to walk into a trap without trying to control every aspect of the situation, and Yvonne would probably beg me to reconsider if she discovered what I was planning. I understood their concerns, but this was personal. Nile had taken someone who had been part of my life since childhood, someone who had loved and cared for me long before I became a doctor or built a hospital.

  • Dr. KILLER    Chapter 180

Karma's POVShe covered her mouth, unable to respond. "I don't know what they promised you, and at this point, I don't even know if I want to know. But I want you to understand something. I trusted you with my work, my time and parts of my life that I never imagined would be used against me. You took that trust and handed it to people who have destroyed lives.""Please, Doctor."I shook my head."I'm disappointed in you, Sandra. Deeply disappointed. And I don't plan to forgive you."She lowered her face, crying silently.I felt no satisfaction watching her break down. Her tears couldn't return the years of trust she had wasted, and they certainly couldn't undo the consequences of the information she had supplied.Helena stepped forward."Do you still have the messages you received from them?"Sandra nodded. "Yes.""Where?""On a phone I keep separately.""Bring it."Sandra quietly left the room. Helena waited, her expression unreadable, while I remained near the window, trying to proc

Karma sat back in her booth, lifted her untouched drink, and watched her father drain his fourth glass of whiskey.Mia walked fast. She changed into something tighter—a red dress that barely covered anything.
