Chapter 11

Bloody Mary

Mary knew that the bodies had been stacking up as a lazy tech pushed it toward the elevator. She could tell by the look of indifference on his face where he was going. The sound of popping gum echoed the hallway as she walked unnoticed as she headed toward the stairs. Stopping at the morgue door and with a shiver, Mary slid through the door quietly and stood in the shadows waiting for the drop off the dead body.

The best part was the place was totally empty, and she knew the kid would wheel the body in initial the paperwork and disappear. Mary had been a nurse for 25 years and she came and went as she pleased, but today she wanted to see her handy work up close. Her first one happened to be patient, and it really was an accident many years ago.

When Mary found later what landed the guy in the hospital, she started to think of it as a public service. The man was accused of beating his kid, and his foot had slipped. That’s when he had landed at the bottom of the steps br
