Chapter 8

Author: Cheese Dumpling
Everyone knew that the second daughter of the Youngblood family rarely showed her face in public. Yet now she seemed completely at ease—relaxed, even—as if she were just sharing a dream.

Nicholas had scoffed at first, but the more Elena spoke, the more clearly the picture formed in his mind.

The crowd was visibly stirred.

Whispers filled the room.

"Mr. Youngblood is so good at keeping secrets. Who would've thought his daughter's the designer behind the Aster Avenue project?"

"If he hadn't brought her today, I wouldn't have known the Youngbloods had such a gorgeous, well-mannered daughter."

"With the way she carries herself, you'd never guess she's been sheltered her whole life. Honestly, I think the Youngbloods must've kept her hidden so no one would snatch her away because she's too pretty."

Terrence hadn't taken his eyes off Elena for even a second.

Who would've thought this goody two-shoes would turn out to be Youngblood Corporation's secret weapon tonight?

If he could win her over, she'd be a major asset to Bailey Group. With her on their side, they'd be unstoppable.

Hearing the chatter around him, Remus showed no hint of joy. Instead, he checked his watch again and again, clearly anxious.

Unlike him, Joel was fully focused on the bid and determined to turn things around.

Elena's talent had genuinely impressed Nicholas.

Marcus leaned over and lowered his voice. "That's the second daughter of the Youngblood family, the goody two-shoes I told you about. They've kept her under wraps all these years.

"Since you moved the schedule up, and Ms. Talia injured her hand and couldn't draw the designs, they had no choice but to bring Ms. Elena."

He paused, then added, "Also, during my investigation, I discovered that Ms. Elena's original surname wasn't Youngblood.

"She was actually the daughter of the Salvatore family, which was Glenhallow's richest family over a decade ago. After they fell from power, she was adopted by the Youngbloods and took their name."

Nicholas studied Elena from afar. There was a spark in her eyes as she spoke about her design.

She looked so sweet, completely unlike the woman who had teased him earlier.

Both Youngblood daughters were anything but innocent.

One drugged him, and the other walked into his room to play the cure.

What a perfect setup. It seemed like it was their strategy to secure the project. And yet, Nicholas couldn't deny that Elena's design had struck a chord.

When her ten minutes were up, Elena ended her pitch. "Thank you for the opportunity, Mr. Montgomery. That concludes my presentation."

Nicholas stood and clapped. "Your design is compelling, Ms. Youngblood. I'll give Youngblood Corporation another shot, provided you deliver a complete design draft."

"Absolutely," Joel replied, practically glowing.

Marcus stepped forward. "That wraps up today's tender conference. The announcement regarding the Aster Avenue partnership will be made in three days."

The room slowly cleared.

Elena followed Remus and Joel toward the exit, only to be stopped by Marcus. "Ms. Youngblood, please stay. Mr. Montgomery would like a word in private."

Remus refused, saying, "My daughter's very timid. She's not used to speaking with strangers. I'm afraid that won't be possible."

Marcus' eyes turned cold. "It seems like you're not interested in working with us, Mr. Youngblood."

"That's not what I meant."

Remus was about to clarify, but Joel leaned in with a hushed reminder. "We just got our foot in the door. If we offend Mr. Montgomery now, not only will we lose the partnership, but Youngblood Corporation will also be in trouble."

Remus adjusted his glasses and glanced reluctantly at the man seated like a king at the front of the room. He had no choice.

He turned to Elena. "Elena, mind your words. Don't upset Mr. Montgomery."

Elena nodded.

Remus and Joel left the room. Marcus followed after them and quietly pulled the door shut behind him.

The room was brightly lit. Elena dropped her sweet-girl act and smiled with a hint of mischief. "What's wrong, Mr. Montgomery? Not impressed with my pitch?"

Nicholas rose from his chair and started toward her.

Elena instinctively stepped back, but he kept advancing.

Within seconds, her back hit the wall.

"Ms. Youngblood, you really stop at nothing for tonight's conference," Nicholas said, gripping her neck. His gaze was icy.

Elena hadn't expected him to snap so suddenly.

Her breath caught in her throat. She said coyly, "Mr. Montgomery, it hurts."

Her skin was fair. A red mark appeared with just a slight squeeze. Her neck was so delicate that it seemed he could snap it with the slightest added pressure.

"You have quite the acting skills. Sweet and innocent in front of everyone but cunning and sly behind closed doors."

Nicholas' hand brushed across her face.

The cold touch of his silver signet ring seemed to mix with his ruthlessness, causing Elena to shiver.

"I'm not sure what you mean, Mr. Montgomery," she replied.

"Your sister drugged me, and then you walked right into my room. Do you need me to spell it out for you?" Nicholas hated being set up, especially by two women working together.

Elena paused for a moment, then quickly realized what he was referring to.

She explained, "I accidentally entered your room. I didn't know you'd been drugged. But of course, whether you believe me or not, that's entirely up to you."

Nicholas leaned in closer, his gaze piercing into hers.

No matter the situation, she was always so calm in the face of him. Her eyes, bright and sparkling, were so clear and pure, making him hesitant to touch her.

Elena continued, "Let's not forget, my design was exceptional, wasn't it? You seemed quite impressed, Mr. Montgomery."

Talia, that fool, had actually drugged Nicholas. And now, he was thinking she and Talia were in cahoots. Getting close to him would be a challenge.

"Bailey Group's design isn't bad either." Nicholas released her and walked back to his chair.

Elena could finally breathe. She exhaled deeply, though her smile remained.

"Sure, their design looks flashy, but it's impractical. It'll drain funds and be hard to develop. You're a businessman, Mr. Montgomery. No one knows better than you who's the better choice here."

"Are you threatening me?" Nicholas' expression darkened. His patience was obviously wearing thin.

Elena moved closer and grabbed the collar of his shirt. "I'm just reminding you. I can bring you the greatest return. Partnering with me won't be a loss for you."

She rolled up her sleeves, revealing faint scars on her slender arms.

Nicholas' eyes narrowed.

Without warning, he pulled her into his arms, stood up, and pinned her against the table. "No one has ever had the nerve to negotiate with me like this. You're the first."

"So, what's it going to be, Mr. Montgomery? Are you going to work with me or not?" Elena arched back with one hand on the table, propped up to support herself.

She'd slipped out of the ill-fitting bodycon dress. Now dressed all sweet and demure, she really did have the advantage of reeling someone in.

As if punishing her for her boldness, Nicholas grabbed her chin and kissed her.

Elena dug her nails into his solid back. Her mouth was just as restless—she bit down hard.

Nicholas winced in pain and pulled back. "If you want to work with me, you'll have to pay the price."

"What do you want, Mr. Montgomery?"

Elena's eyes lingered on his jawline, her hand tracing his strong features.

Her sculpture last night had only captured his face. If she could sculpt his body too, it would be a true masterpiece.

Her fingers slid lower from his lips toward his throat, but Nicholas caught her hand before she could touch his Adam's apple.

"What can you give me?" he asked.

Elena leaned in closer and whispered in his ear, "Whatever you want, Mr. Montgomery."

"You certainly have an unconventional way of wooing a woman," Elena remarked with considerable resignation. Nevertheless, she still accepted that piece of steak Nicholas offered, opening her mouth to receive it. That steak, perfectly pan-fried to a melting tenderness, exuded an enticing aroma. However, within Elena's mouth, it yielded no discernible taste."I don't woo women," Nicholas declared, his gaze fixed on the delicate movements of her rosy lips as she ate. That subtle movement of her delicate lips unexpectedly evoked the sensation of their kiss, causing a sudden flush of heat to rise within him.Though countless women had tried to approach him, he had never allowed them any intimacy, let alone the opportunity to dine with him, much less be personally fed by him. Yet, Elena was an exception. He felt a surprising reluctance to turn her down, and he found himself wanting to indulge her after witnessing her flirtatious charm.Elena picked up her napkin, wiped her mouth, and sa

"It's a deal, then!" Elena exclaimed, thinking that no one could possibly turn down such a deal with such a lucrative sum. It was especially the case considering Nancy's ongoing and substantial medical expenses. In addition, Nancy could even move forward with her second operation with this sum."I don't have much energy, so it'll take me a while."Nicholas readily consented, saying, "I'll give you three months."Having reached an agreement, Elena asked Nicholas to transfer the money to Frank's account. She had majored in architectural design back at university, having also enrolled in an elective course in sculptural arts. It was something the Youngbloods were aware of as well. Remus had permitted her to engage in sculpting at Youngblood Manor, as long as it didn't interfere with her architectural design work. Her usual sculptural endeavors consisted of small, unexceptional items.Talia had always mocked her for it, dismissing her as an inept craftswoman. She remained unperturbed

Elena's kiss was hurried and somewhat unrefined, clearly revealing her inexperience. Nicholas was momentarily stunned, wondering why Elena would suddenly put on such a display of affection when Joel was still sitting in the car outside of Hawthorne Estate. He couldn't help but wonder what Elena's intention was. Nevertheless, he still couldn't resist Elena's delicate touch. He held her waist firmly and returned the kiss fervently. Their passionate encounter moved from the balcony to the couch, and it was only when her breathing became labored that Nicholas finally stopped."I'd like to strike a deal with you, Mr. Montgomery," Elena said, lying underneath him. Her clothes were in disarray, and there was a delicate flush adorning her pale complexion. Her petite mouth, especially, now thoroughly kissed and gently swollen with a glistening dewiness, presented an almost irresistible temptation for further passionate exploration.Nicholas kept his composure, lit the cigarette, and asked

Joel no longer wished to be subjugated by Remus. He wanted to get rid of Remus, no matter what.In the end, Elena left Youngblood Manor with Marcus.Nicholas really went all out, having Marcus drive a specially modified MPV to pick her up. Elena didn't even feel the slightest bump throughout the journey, even on the entire journey up the mountain. She experienced neither motion sickness nor vomiting. Then, just as she was about to get out of the MPV, Marcus thoughtfully approached her and asked, "Could you please wait a moment while I get the wheelchair, Ms. Youngblood?" "It's alright. I can manage on my own," Elena responded, a slight smile gracing her features. She couldn't help but muse about Nicholas' chivalry. She had only mentioned in her message that she felt a little weak, and he had already prepared a wheelchair for her.Elena couldn't help but hope that Nicholas would personally show up next time and carry her in his arms instead of providing her with a wheelchair.H

Talia still had a life ahead of her, but Elena's parents were gone forever. Edgar's cremains still lay exposed to the elements, enduring wind and rain, while Amber's cremains were confined within four walls, their reunion perpetually denied. Joel wanted her to feel sympathy for Talia, while her late parents were denied such sympathy. Who would extend compassion to her parents and grant them peace?Joel assured Talia, saying, "I swear I'll find a way to retrieve your mother's cremains and lay her to rest peacefully."Elena said coldly, "I'll consider it once you've obtained the urn.""Why do you have to be this heartless, Elena?" Joel snapped, his tone sharpening as his patience wore thin.Elena turned her head toward the window and replied with a sneer, "It's because she doesn't deserve any forgiveness." No sooner had she spoken than George's voice came from outside. "Mr. Youngblood, a representative from Mr. Montgomery has arrived."…Marcus was standing in the living hall dow

It was then that a crisp slap sound echoed throughout the surroundings.Elena was standing by the railing with her gaze fixed on the scene in the study, taking it all in. That agonizing past was brought up once again, and the truth was brutally unveiled, a raw and bloody spectacle that tore through her like a physical dismemberment, leaving her in unbearable agony.Elena gripped her pajamas tightly, her eyes brimming with unfiltered hatred.Joel's rebellion was finally underway. Given that Joel and Remus were at odds, they were bound to have a deadly confrontation eventually, causing their own downfall.Elena refrained from further eavesdropping and retreated to the attic. She, too, had once been a recipient of Remus' deceptions. Talia was undeniably the most foolish member of the Youngbloods. However, it was her very being that fueled the flames of this ongoing dispute, allowing it to rage ever stronger! …Elena woke the following morning to find only Blake by her side, conduct

Elena checked the time and finally realized that she had been unconscious for three days. Her body had been alarmingly weak after returning from the cemetery three days earlier. She was worried that the Youngbloods would go through her phone if she lost consciousness, so she had directly blocked Nicholas' number to prevent him from sending any suggestive messages that would create an unmanageable situation later on. She reasoned that Nicholas' failure to contact her had led him to instruct Marcus to message her instead. Having accepted that message request, Elena immediately received a message, stating, "I heard you weren't feeling well, Ms. Youngblood. How are you feeling now?"Elena figured that Nicholas must have gotten hold of Joel and found out that she had been unwell."Thanks for your thoughtfulness. I'm mostly alright now."Marcus didn't respond for quite a while.Elena was on the verge of putting her phone away when a message came through. "Unblock me."It was unm

Megan had been subjected to the punishment of kneeling in the family mausoleum by Remus, an ordeal that had so profoundly terrified her that she had developed a mental illness. Talia didn't want to end up like Megan, who was confined to a mental hospital after losing her sanity."It's not entirely Talia's fault, Dad. Please have mercy on her this once, for the sake of her being your flesh and blood," Joel said, protecting Talia again. He had been too weak and helpless in the past to stop Megan from being sent away. He had the means to oppose Remus now, so he wouldn't allow Talia to go through the same ordeal as Megan."How will she ever learn her lesson without some punishment?" Remus asserted, summoning George and insisting on sending her to the family mausoleum."Please don't let them take me away, Joel!" Talia pleaded through her tears."I will not allow anyone to lay a hand on her as long as I'm here!" Joel declared, pushing George away and shielding Talia with his body.Joel'

Elena remained unconscious for three days, during which Nicholas' attempts to contact her by phone were unsuccessful. He then sent her a message, only to find out that he wasn't even on her contact list. He realized that she might have blocked his number, so he called Joel with a grim expression and said, "I can't even reach the designer when we're about to kick off the project. Is Youngblood Corporation trying to screw me over?"Joel, who had just arrived at work, took the call and immediately began to smooth things over. "You've got it all wrong, Mr. Montgomery. I assure you that Youngblood Corporation is still fully committed to this partnership. You see, the reason Elena hasn't been in touch with you these past few days is that she has been feeling unwell. I'll make sure she calls you back the moment she's feeling better." Upon hearing that, Nicholas couldn't help but furrow his brow. He scoffed a moment later, thinking that though Elena was sick, she still somehow had the ener
