Within minutes there was a knock at my door, and after tightening the sash holding my robe closed, I went to see who had gotten up here so fast. I was a little surprised to see a man around 6’4” standing there, and an exceedingly handsome one at that, with black hair that was a bit to long to stay in style properly, bright blue eyes, and a five o’clock shadow covering his strong jaw. His eyes grew wide as he took in my blood-soaked appearance while my own narrowed at him suspiciously.
“You don’t look like a healer…” I trailed off, cocking an eyebrow at him in question of his presence at my door.
“Oh, umm, no, no I’m not.” He cleared his throat before flashing me a polite smile and holding a hand out for me to shake. “Garrett Breland.”
“Oh, Alpha Garrett, nice to meet you.” Returning his smile, I placed my hand in his. “Evangeline Dark, you’re welcome to come in?” I told him
Thank you so much for reading! Hoping you are enjoying the story <3
“She’s been out for over eight hours, healer, are you sure what you did was healing?” Growled a familiar voice, cutting through the darkness I was floating in. “You saw her shoulder yourself, it’s been healed, and I gave her a unit of blood as well to help restore what she lost. Now it’s up to her body to heal enough to wake up. I did all I could do.” Another voice grumbled back, but his tone told a different story then his words, instead hinting that he was worried. “The competition starts in an hour, and knowing Eva the way I do, she’s going to want to watch every fight.” That was Fenris, the growling and the grumbling belonging to my slightly overprotective brother. “You wolves are so blood thirsty.” Whispered the healer, Blake, that was his name… I felt cold hands on my skin as gentle fingers probed the spot on my neck where I remembered I had been bitten last night. My hand snapped up t
“Alpha Jackson will go on to the final round.” The Alpha who was overseeing the competition shouted over the hollers of the other wolves present, and it seemed everyone had showed up for the event, even those not participating. I guess there was a bit of fascination around the idea of a new Alpha being crowned tomorrow. We had been here all-day watching fight after fight. Most were called when one opponent begged off, others were only ended when the loser was pulled from the ring, unconscious, and rushed to the infirmary. “Damn, I was hoping that fucker would get his ass handed to him!” Fenris growled, watching as Alpha Jackson was slapped on the back by his Beta and handed a water. “Me too, but it’s fine, I can take Jackson, I know I can.” I answered confidently, though with each of Jackson’s fights that I watched, I became a little less sure. He was big, strong, and fast, one or two of those combinations was enou
As I was walking through the lobby of the hotel on my way to the dungeons to confront Julian, I ran into Fenris and Lila arguing. “What do you mean he’s your ‘mate’?” Fenris practically shouted, followed by Lila shushing him and glancing around anxiously. “Damn Fenris, keep your voice down, I haven’t told him yet.” Lila whispered back, though in a hotel full of werewolves, whispering was a bit redundant, we all had super hearing. “He doesn’t know? How is that possible?” “Because he’s a human, he may have a bit of Fae in him, but he’s still human, he doesn’t have the same signs we do.” “You found your mate Lila? That’s great!” I exclaimed, surprising both of them as I walked up to join their little huddle. “I take it its Blake after the way you acted last night and the small bit of your conversation I overheard.” “Eva! Oh my Goddess, I am so happy
“What do you plan to do with him?” Lila asked as the elevator doors slid open on the basement floor of the hotel. “I plan on asking questions, the punishment will depend on the answers I get.” I answered honestly. I could not get the incident with Julian out of my head all day. What he had done made no sense, and I had a theory that someone had told him to. But who? The elevator doors opened into a short hallway that dead ended at a large iron door with a security guard on either side. Both were watching us as we stepped off the elevator and made our way down the hall. The younger of the two stepped forward and help up a hand for us to halt. “That’s far enough, no one gets in or out with out Alpha Garrett’s permission.” He practically yelled, though we were only about eight feet away, his voice echoed off the walls irritating all our ears. Wolf hearing was not a joke. “I am Beta Evangeline, o
“I can’t believe the final two are Jackson and Lee.” Lila muttered before taking a bite out of the Hawaiian pizza in her hands. After our trip to see Julian in the dungeons and get his reasoning behind attempting to mark me without permission, we still had over an hour until the next fight took place, and thanks to werewolf stamina, we were all hungry. Deciding to get out of the hotel for a brief time we all headed out. There were dozens of restaurants close enough that we did not need to bring the cars around, and instead walked the short distance to a pizza place. Our pizzas only took twenty minutest to cook and we were sitting around a table in the coroner of the restaurant a pizza box in front of each of us while we discussed what had happened throughout the day. Lila admitted she had been hiding, too afraid to see Blake before she had decided what she was going to do and Fenris and I filled her in on the tournament, which lead to ou
For the final leg of the tournament it would appear that I was going to have quite the entourage. Fenris and Lila sat on either side of me while Alaric, Gregory, Lucien, and Jerald were seated on the bench behind me. Jackson and Lee had entered the room a brief time ago, sitting on opposite sides of the makeshift arena with their respective pack members who had come to the summit with them. I was anxious to get this all over with and out of the way. Days had been wasted on this ridiculous tournament; time that would have been better spent signing a treaty that would bring the worlds packs together in a solitary fight against the greatest evil we had ever faced. Genesis. “All will be okay, Adora, we have your back.” Alaric’s voice drifted through my mind soothingly, though he was completely off as to what was bothering me. I was not worried about who would win this fight, I was not stressing about who I would face off with. I was
The power that flowed through me was unlike anything I had ever felt before, like lightening flashing through my veins, from my heart to my fingertips and flowing into Lee. I could feel the difference in him the moment it entered him, his pulse skipped a beat before beginning to hammer faster and faster. I focused on healing the carotid artery first, imagining my light encircling it and stitching it back together. The flow of blood leaking between my fingers slowed before finally stopping. I wanted to heal his neck completely, but I could feel my body tiring out as the use of my magic drained me. I focused instead on his leg, closing the bleeding vessels, trying to keep as much of his blood in his body as possible. Without blood he would be unable to heal, and all of this would be for nothing. I needed him alive until Blake could get here and give him a transfusion, and perhaps heal him a bit more himself. “What is she doing? Why is she
“Don’t let that asshat get under your skin, Eva.” Lila muttered, handing me a bottle of water as she glared at a grinning Jackson while he and his pack members entered the temporary arena. The room was filling up fast, as it seemed every single person who had come for the summit had decided to be here for the final fight. Though I guess it made sense, no matter who won, history would be made here tonight. “Don’t worry Lila, it would take more than a cocky grin to put me on edge.” I chuckled, sipping the water she had handed me slowly, keeping my gaze focused anywhere but on Jackson. Alaric, Fenris and Lila were all standing with me, waiting for Alpha Grayson to call Jackson and I to the center of the ring. We were still about ten minutes out from the official start and odd enough, the closer it got the calmer I felt, I knew this was Sapphire’s doing, sharing her confidence with me through the bond we shared. “He se
