Edward's car screeched to a halt outside BeanLab Coffee.

He barely put it in park before shoving the door open, his eyes instantly locking onto the solitary figure by the window.

Her sharp jawline and thin shoulders struck him first—a sudden, unwelcome twist in his gut.

How had she gotten so much thinner since their last meeting?

Cecilia turned at the sound. Her gaze held his for a moment before drifting down.

She set her coffee cup aside, a bitter smile touching her lips. "You remembered this place. How unexpected."

The words sliced through him, unlocking a flood of memories. His eyes darted around the café—the familiar layout, the specific table.

His heart sank.

Where she was sitting—this was her mother's favorite seat.

Cecilia wasn't looking at him anymore. Her hollow stare fixed on the towering skyscraper of MT Group in the distance, as if seeing straight through the glass into some painful, unreachable past.

"Mom sat right here, didn't she?" Cecilia's voice was soft, almost

The VIP suite on the top floor was overflowing with flowers—bouquets from every major corporation, stacked so high they nearly formed a wall. The moment someone stepped inside, a heavy wave of fragrance washed over them, so thick it felt like it clung to their shoes.White lilies, pink roses, and a variety of exotic flowers filled the room, transforming the sterile hospital space into something that looked almost like a greenhouse. But the beauty was only surface deep. These flowers were nothing more than hollow gestures—performances of sympathy from business partners who cared far more about appearances than about the man lying in the bed.Cecilia pushed open the door. The temperature and humidity inside were controlled to perfection. On the bed, Edward lay motionless, eyes closed. The monitors beside him beeped steadily, a faint, rhythmic pulse of sound.Tubes were inserted into his body, each one connected to a machine quietly keeping him alive. At first glance, the scene was almos

Giles was stunned by the slap, stumbling several steps before regaining his balance. He clutched his burning cheek, eyes blazing with fury as he glared at Cecilia."I'm not done with you!" he screamed."Come on then." Cecilia rolled up her sleeves again, her expression taunting. "I'm right here.""You bitch! You whore! You bastard!" Giles shouted, completely losing control. The people around them froze. No one expected a child to spit out such venom.Cecilia didn't even flinch. She actually smiled."Save your breath. If your mom dies, you'll need energy to cry for a few days.""You—" Giles trembled with rage, pointing a shaking finger at her."Don't point at me." She swatted his hand away. "You don't get to talk to me like that.""You're not my dad's daughter!" Giles shouted, grasping at what he thought was a victory. "You're the bastard!"The hallway went completely silent.Everyone held their breath, waiting for Cecilia's reaction. She paused for two seconds—then suddenly laughed. T

Eleanor's eyes flew wide open, her mind going blank. She instinctively tried to push Nick away, but her arms felt weak and useless.Nick forced her lips apart, greedily taking her breath as if he had been starved of it. That hollow ache inside him finally filled; the suffocating restlessness finally eased.Yes. This. This was the feeling he'd been chasing. He didn't know how long the kiss lasted.Eleanor finally snapped back to herself. She shoved Nick away with all her strength, stumbling back as she covered her lips with trembling fingers. Her voice shook as she shouted,"What—what is wrong with you?! Are you insane?!"Nick was panting hard, his eyes wild and desperate. He pressed both hands against his chest, his face pale and contorted."I know it looks crazy," he rasped, "but I swear, I don't know if I've been poisoned."His voice cracked with strain."It's like some addict going into withdrawal. This—" He pounded a fist lightly against his chest. "—this hurts like hell when it h

The clock in the hallway ticked steadily, every second stretching out like an eternity. The red light above the operating room still flashed—a cold, unblinking eye staring down at everyone waiting outside. No one spoke.Everyone was waiting.Waiting for the doors to open.Waiting for fate to deliver its verdict."Why are you here?"Nick appeared at the doorway, breath uneven, a thin layer of sweat on his forehead. He had spent nearly half the day searching every floor of the inpatient wing, practically tearing the place apart, only to find out she had hidden herself away in a fire escape stairwell.Eleanor heard his voice and lifted her head. She glanced at him once, then looked away as if he were just another passerby. That single glance—cold, detached, indifferent—landed harder than a punch.Something tightened in Nick's chest. What kind of look was that? That distance, that unfamiliarity… it rattled him.Cecilia stood up and smoothed her skirt, even though there was no dust on it.

Outside the emergency building of Presbyterian Hospital, the wail of ambulance sirens sliced through the sky—sharp enough to make anyone's heart seize. Two ambulances screeched to a halt almost simultaneously at the emergency entrance. The moment the doors opened, two mangled, blood-soaked bodies were rushed out on stretchers, one after the other.Dave followed behind, completely rattled, his face drained of color. His gaze darted between the two stretchers, not even knowing whom he should be more worried about.Margaret lay motionless, her body limp. If not for the faint, flickering line on the ECG monitor, she looked no different from a corpse. Her face was covered in blood, her breathing so weak it was barely perceptible. On the other stretcher, Edward's condition was even more chilling.Blood streamed from a deep gash on his forehead—so deep the bone was visible. But the most horrifying sight was his thigh: a massive shard of glass was lodged deep inside, soaking the sheet beneath
