Back at the apartment, Cecilia turned on the TV.

The news had been covering MT Group, but after a brief freeze, the broadcast shifted to a police bulletin about a wanted vehicle.

Liam hadn't planned to pay attention. But the moment he heard the announcement, he glanced over casually--and then his expression tightened.

The surveillance footage released by the police didn't show the occupants clearly, but that car...

Cecilia steadied herself and looked back as well.

Their eyes met.

Liam set down his glass and strode over. "Don't look at it. It's already happened. There's no undoing it."

He didn't hesitate to switch off the TV.

Cecilia grabbed his hand carefully. "You don't think that car looks familiar?"

Liam dodged the point. "There are tons of cars with that model on the road. What exactly are you focusing on?"

Cecilia hesitated, then asked again, "You really don't remember?"

Liam tapped her forehead lightly. "What are you imagining now? Are you just shaken by Giles' sudden death?"

When the doors of the operating room finally slid open, Murphy nearly sprang out of his chair. After holding the same position for seven hours straight, his knees cracked softly as he stood. His entire right leg had gone numb, sensation completely gone.Robin pulled off his surgical mask. Dark shadows lay heavy beneath his eyes.He sat down beside Murphy, his voice hoarse from the prolonged operation."The bullet's out. It didn't hit any vital organs. But she lost a lot of blood. She'll need forty-eight hours of observation in the ICU."Murphy slowly sank back into the chair, his fingers digging deep into his hair. He hunched forward, drained of all strength."It was my fault... I knew that time window wasn't safe...""They planned it precisely," Robin said, patting his rigid shoulder. "They struck right after you left, during the guard shift change. They even mapped out the blind spots in the villa's surveillance. This wasn't impulsive--it was a carefully orchestrated ambush."From t

The hospital corridor was flooded with cold, white fluorescent light. The sharp scent of disinfectant clung stubbornly to the back of the throat, impossible to shake.Murphy stood with his back against the wall. The dark red stains covering the front of his white shirt had already dried, stiff and hardened--like a brand seared into his chest, a mark of shame he couldn't tear away. There was no expression on his face, but his jaw was clenched so tightly it looked ready to snap. His hands hung at his sides, fingertips trembling faintly.Cecilia approached with two cups of coffee and gently tapped one against the back of his hand."You should change your clothes. Dried blood is uncomfortable."Murphy didn't take it. His gaze was nailed to the operating room doors.Above them, the red IN SURGERY light glared like an open wound."I always thought," Cecilia said softly as she sat down on a plastic chair beside him, "that you were the kind of man who could stay calm even if the sky fell. But

When Murphy pushed open the car door, the unnatural silence hanging over the entire villa made his heart drop. The patrol post outside the courtyard was empty. Every window of the main house was dark--except for a single light glowing on the second floor. The moment he opened the door, the stench of blood hit him head-on.Cecilia stood by the window, moonlight outlining her fragile profile. On the floor, a pool of dark red blood looked horrifying under the light."I suppose," Cecilia turned toward him and gave a tired smile, "this place isn't livable anymore. Not for now."Murphy's gaze shifted from the body on the floor to her face.Only after confirming she was unharmed did he turn toward the guards standing frozen outside the door. He closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them again, his gaze was glacial."Explain."Just a word--yet heavy enough to crush everyone's heads lower."I'll report directly to Father," he said at last. Then he looked back at Cecilia. "You need to relocat

"Turn on the light."The man's voice came from the shadows, the vicious edge no longer concealed.Cecilia's heart slammed heavily against her ribs. She forced her gaze away from the blurred silhouette reflected in the window and steadied her voice. "What do you want?""I said, turn on the light."The gun barrel gleamed coldly in the moonlight, pressed against Claire's temple. "Don't make me say it a third time."Cecilia raised her hand and flipped the switch. The lights came on again. This time, she saw clearly--the man wore dark tactical clothing and a black mask, only a pair of hostile eyes exposed.Claire's mouth was sealed with duct tape. Her face was ashen, her body trembling uncontrollably with fear."Money?" Cecilia asked, lifting both hands, palms outward. "Or are you here to kill me? Either way, let her go. She has nothing to do with this."The man let out a short laugh. "You think you're in a position to negotiate?""I think you're smart," Cecilia said calmly. She lowered he

Cecilia returned to the living room. Reflected in the floor-to-ceiling windows, a news channel scrolled endlessly across the screen:Key witness in the traffic accident recants testimony early this morning. Police state that the evidence chain will be re-examined.A spokesperson for Sinclair declined to comment. She pulled the curtains shut, blocking out the noise and flashing headlines. As she turned around, her gaze landed on the closed door of the study on the second floor.Thud.A very soft sound--like a book hitting the floor. She stopped mid-step. Aside from the guards on rotation outside the estate, she should have been the only one inside the house.Thud.The second sound was clearer. It came from the study.Cecilia moved quickly to the left side of the fireplace, sliding her fingers into a narrow seam in the marble molding--where a concealed safety latch was hidden. She pressed it.The wall slid open soundlessly, revealing a recessed gun rack. She took out the Glock 26. Outside the side entrance of the police station, Murphy's car screeched to a sudden stop. The tires hissed sharply against the pavement, the front of the car halting less than half a meter from the steps.Only when he saw Cecilia emerge from the doorway did the tension in his shoulders ease--just barely noticeable. His hands remained clenched around the steering wheel, knuckles white."I was halfway there when Prescott called," Murphy said as he pushed the door open and stepped out. His voice was lower than usual. "He said you were here."Cecilia pulled her coat tighter around herself. "Sorry. I left in a hurry and forgot to tell you.""It's fine." He opened the rear door for her. "Get in first."The car still carried the faint static hum of a police radio. As Cecilia bent to sit in the back seat, the tip of her shoe bumped into something hard. She picked it up casually--a silver badge, its edges engraved with an intricate vine pattern.Murphy caught sight of it in the rearview mirror
