**Friday, 9:00 AM**

David Liu called before Elena had finished her coffee.

"I need you to come to my office," he said, and there was something different in his voice this time, sharper, more urgent than the careful, measured tone she'd grown used to over the past weeks. "Today, if you can."

"What did you find?"

"I'd rather show you in person. Bring your employment contract if you have a copy. And Miss Cortez —" he paused. "You should probably bring someone with you. Someone you trust."

**Monday, 8:00 AM**The email arrived while Elena was setting Adrian's coffee tray down outside the study door.*David Liu, Countersuit filed. Also: you need to see this.*Attached was a screenshot of a voicemail transcript, forwarded from David's office. Elena read it twice before she fully understood what she was looking at.Catherine Chen had called the vendor coordinator for the string quartet, one of the seven vendors whose emails had been redirected, three days after her son called off the wedding. The recording, subpoenaed along with the rest, had been sitting in a case file for months, unnoticed until now.*"Just bill it to Elena Cortez. She handled the account. I don't care whose signature is on it, tell them it's her responsibility. She works for the Blackwells now, she can afford it."*Elena's hands went cold around the coffee tray. The door opened before she knocked. Adrian took one look at her face and pulled her inside, closing the door behind them."What is it?"She han

"Today, if you can.""What did you find?""I'd rather show you in person. Bring your employment contract if you have a copy. And Miss Cortez —" he paused. "You should probably bring someone with you. Someone you trust."Elena's hand tightened around her phone. "Why?""Because I think you're about to find out you've been carrying a two-hundred-thousand-dollar lie for four months, and I don't think you should hear that alone."She found Adrian in the study, already dressed for the day, a set of blueprints spread across his desk. He looked up when she knocked, and whatever he saw in her face made him straighten immediately."What happened?""David wants to see me. Today. He says," her voice caught slightly. "He said I shou

Thursday MorningElena woke before her alarm. For a moment, she lay still, staring at the ceiling of her small quarters, letting the events of the previous night wash over her slowly, like tide coming in.The piano bench. The moonlight. Adrian's forehead against hers.I'm sure, she had whispered. And then he had kissed her.Her fingers drifted to her lips automatically, like she was checking to make sure it had actually happened. That it wasn't some beautiful, cruel dream her sleeping mind had constructed to torture her.But no. It had happened. Adrian Blackwell had kissed her in the moonlit library, his arms around her, his voice low and fierce promising things that made her chest ache.I would never hurt you. Never.Elena sat up slowly. The clock read 5:30 AM. Fifteen minutes before her alarm. She got up anyway, moving to the small window of her quarters. Outside, the estate grounds were still cloaked in pre-dawn darkness. The gardens were silent, the fountain still. Everything look

**Monday Morning, Week Four**Elena was in the kitchen preparing Adrian's morning coffee when her phone rang. David Liu.Her hands trembled slightly as she answered. "Hello?""Miss Cortez, good morning. I have news about your case."Elena's heart pounded. "What kind of news?""Good news. Very good news, actually." She could hear the satisfaction in his voice. "I've completed my analysis of the Chen family lawsuit, and I found several significant irregularities.""Irregularities?""To put it bluntly, it appears that Catherine Chen forged your signature on at least seven of the twelve contracts they're using to claim you owe them money. The signatures don't match your verified signature on file, and a handwriting analyst I consulted confirms they were likely done by the same person, probably Mrs. Chen herself."Elena sank into a chair, her legs suddenly weak. "She... she forged my signature?""Yes. On the venue contract, the florist agreement, the photographer's contract, and several oth

**Two Weeks Later**Elena had fallen into a routine.Wake at 5:45 AM. Shower, dress in her uniform simple black pants and a white blouse that Patricia had provided. Be in the kitchen by 6:00 AM to prepare Mr. Blackwell's coffee. Deliver it to his study at exactly 6:00 AM, knock twice, leave it on the table outside his door, and retreat before he opens it.At 6:30 AM, he leaves for his workout in the private gym on the lower level. That gave Elena an hour to clean his quarters. His bedroom was surprisingly sparse for a billionaire. A king-sized bed with dark gray linens, a dresser, and a chair by the window. No photos, no personal items on display. The only hint of personality was the book on his nightstand whatever he was currently reading. Last week it was something on behavioral economics. This week, surprisingly, it was a novel. Fiction. *The Count of Monte Cristo*.His bathroom was immaculate_he was neat, which made her job easier. She cleaned the mirrors, restocked the towels, an

Saturday morning arrived too quickly.Elena stood in the middle of her tiny apartment—now mostly empty except for a few boxes she asked Sophie to store, and looked at the two suitcases that contained her entire life. One suitcase held clothes: mostly practical things now, nothing fancy. She sold most of her "Marcus era" wardrobe online for whatever she could get. Designer dresses and heels didn't make sense for a housekeeper anyway. The other suitcase held personal items: photos of her father, her mother's old jewelry box, books, her laptop, a few things she couldn't bear to part with. The wedding dress still hung on the bathroom door. Elena had meant to deal with it, but every time she tried, she couldn't bring herself to touch it. In the end, she left it there for the landlord to dispose of. Let someone else throw away that ghost. Her phone rang. Patricia."Miss Cortez, the car will arrive in ten minutes to collect you.""Car?" Elena had assumed she drove herself."Mr. Blackwell is s
