LOGINThe night my fiancé abandoned me, I thought my life had hit rock bottom. Desperate to pay for my mother’s expensive medical treatment, I accepted a job as a private tutor—only to unknowingly step into the world of New York’s most dangerous mafia family, the Castellano family. That man was Luca Castellano. He was the Mafia Don who ruled the underground empire—cold, powerful, and feared by everyone who dared to defy him. Then he offered me a deal: I would become his contract wife and help him take care of his nephew, Leo, a child who had lost his ability to speak. In return, he would cover my mother’s medical expenses and protect me from being dragged back into the nightmare of my past. We agreed there would be no love and no promises. It was nothing more than a business arrangement. But when everyone believed I was just an ordinary woman being used by a ruthless mafia boss, Luca was the one who repeatedly stood between me and danger. In front of the entire upper class, he declared— “She is Nora Castellano. My wife.” The ex-fiancé who once looked down on me for being poor began to regret his choices. Those who had underestimated me began to fear me. And I slowly discovered… The man the world called a devil had a heart that was gentle only for his family—and for me. But when the day our contract ends finally arrives… Will Luca really let me walk away?
View MoreAfter my ex-fiancé abandoned me, I married the heir of New York’s most powerful mafia family.
Everyone thought I had lost my mind.
Because the man I married was cold, dangerous, and feared by everyone who knew his name.
But they didn’t know that on the very first day of our marriage, he didn’t give me luxury cars or diamonds.
He gave me a promise.
A promise to protect my mother’s life.
Later, the entire city knew—
The Mafia Don who never bowed to anyone had a wife he would never allow anyone to hurt.

Nora’s pov
The rain in New York that night felt like grease and soot, sticking to the hem of my worn coat as I hurried past the grey brick facades of the West End. My coat was threadbare at the elbows, soaking through to my skin, but I had more pressing worries than the chill in my bones.
My phone vibrated violently against my hip. I didn't need to look at the screen to know who it was. The hospital’s billing department had called twice before noon. My mother’s room on the fourth floor of St. Jude’s cost twelve hundred dollars a day, and her targeted cancer therapies weren't covered by basic state insurance. Without those drugs, the fluid in her lungs would fill them again within a week.
I turned the corner into the damp alley behind the music conservatory where I used to tutor part-time, only to freeze.
Leaning against the damp brick wall, shielding a cigarette with a manicured hand, was Sebastian.
He looked immaculate. His coat was tailored cashmere, and his hair had been cut by someone who charged more for twenty minutes than I earned in a month of private piano lessons.
"Nora," he said, flicking the cigarette butt into a puddle. It hissed as it went out. "You're late."
"I don't have time for this, Sebastian," I said, stepping back and pulling my canvas bag tighter against my chest. "I have an interview."
"An interview?" He snorted, stepping directly into my path with that easy, casual arrogance that used to blind me. "Tutoring some merchant's brat for peanuts? Nora, look at yourself. You’re pale. You’re shivering. Your mother’s chart is sitting on the head doctor’s desk waiting for a signature to halt her treatments, and you’re still playing the independent martyr."
"Get out of my way."
He reached out, grabbing my wrist. His grip wasn't violent, but it was possessive—the way a man holds a coat he considers his property, even if he’s stopped wearing it.
"I offered you a way out," Sebastian murmured, leaning down so his breath brushed my temple. "Cassandra doesn't care what I do on the side, so long as I’m at her father’s galas on the weekend. I can put your mother in a private suite by tonight. I can clear the back bills. All you have to do is stop this foolishness. Be sensible. Become my mistress."
"You abandoned me the second her family offered you a partnership," I said, my voice shaking with a cold rage. "And now you want me to sit in a gilded cage?"
"I loved you," he said, his fingers tightening on my bone. "But I’m a practical man. I couldn't marry a broke girl with a sick mother. You bring nothing to the table. But I’m offering to take care of you anyway. Don't be stupid."
"Let go of her."
The voice didn't come from behind me. It came from the shadows of the alley, heavy, deep, and carrying the dangerous cadence of old money and older violence.
Sebastian turned, scowling. "Mind your own business, pal—"
He stopped.
A tall man stepped out from the shelter of a blacked-out SUV. He wore a charcoal suit so dark it absorbed the muted light of the street. But what made the air in the alley instantly turn to ice was the terrifying composure of his movement. His dark hair was trimmed sharp, and out from beneath his crisp collar, a dark, inked tail of a serpent snake crept up the left side of his throat.
In one fluid, frighteningly practiced motion, the man stepped forward, reached into his jacket, and pulled out a heavy black pistol. Before Sebastian could even draw breath to scream, the barrel of the gun was pressed flush against Sebastian's forehead, right between his eyes.
"If your hand remains on that young woman’s wrist for three more seconds," the man said softly, his dark eyes entirely devoid of warmth, "I will paint this brick wall with whatever passes for your brain. Get lost."
Sebastian recoiled as if he had touched live fire. He stumbled back, hit the damp wall, his face drained of all color, his lips trembling, before running full speed toward the main avenue.
The dark-haired man turned his stormy grey eyes onto me. "Nora Bennett?"
"Yes," I managed to whisper.
"I am Luca Castellano," he said flatly. "You’re late for your interview."
Nora’s povThree years later. The courtyard of the Nora Benneth Castellano Music Academy was alive with noise and laughter. Children ran across the sunlit lawn holding violin cases and sheet music, while proud parents gathered on the terrace enjoying the mid-afternoon refreshments.Inside the main auditorium, the acoustics carried a sweet, resonant sound that filled every corner of the high-arched space. On the center stage sat two grand pianos side-by-side. On the left sat seven-year-old Leo, looking sharp in his suit, his fingers moving across the keys with effortless grace as he led the academy’s youth ensemble through a classical movement.Right beside him sat two-year-old Maya, her tiny feet dan
Nora’s povSix months later. The crisp air of early spring had returned to the city, bringing with it bright green shoots along the estate’s stone perimeter and the warm, golden light of clear mornings. My mother’s transition from St. Jude’s to the private guesthouse on the estate had gone smoothly three months ago. Now, she spent her afternoons sitting on the sunlit terrace with her sketching pads, her cheeks healthy and full, her laughter joining Leo's as he chased the puppy through the garden beds.In the grand music room, the Steinway stood open.Leo sat beside me on the long bench, his little fingers moving with remarkable precision across the keys as he played a warm, rolling harmony. He didn't j
Nora’s povThe storm cleared before dawn, leaving the morning sky a pale, pristine blue. Sunlight spilled over the third-floor balcony, washing the dark mahogany furniture of Luca’s private bedroom in soft golden light.I woke up wrapped in the deep warmth of his arms. The scent of dark cedar, rain, and his warm skin enveloped me.For the first time since I had stepped through the iron gates of the estate, my mind felt entirely at peace. There were no looming hospital bills, no shadow of Sebastian lurking in the dark, and no terrifying uncertainty about where I belonged.Luca was already awake. He was lying on his side, his broad hand resting gently on my waist, his dark grey eyes fixing on mine with a quiet, fierce tenderness. The dark ink of the serpent tat
Nora’s povThe world returned in sharp, agonizing fragments. My head throbbed with a sickening, heavy pulse, the lingering taste of chloroform bitter against the back of my throat. When I forced my eyes open, the space around me was cold, cavernous, and pitch-black, illuminated only by a single bare bulb dangling from a rusted chain high above. The air smelled of stagnant harbor water, damp concrete, and ancient iron.I tried to move my hands, but heavy hemp rope bit sharply into my wrists, binding them tightly behind the wooden chair I was strapped to. My ankles were tied securely to the chair’s thick legs.A few yards away, pacing back and forth across the oil-stained floor, was Sebastian. He held a half-empty bottle of cheap rye whiskey in one hand and the rusted revolver in the other. His hair was wild, plastered to his forehead with sweat and rain, his breath coming in ragged, erratic hitches."You're awake," he said, turning sharply toward me, a manic, breathless laugh escaping
