Damien’s POV

The doors of the council chamber slammed shut behind me, the loud bang echoing through the tall stone hall like a gavel falling on a death sentence. Twelve pack elders sat behind the long bench at the front of the room, their faces carved out of cold, unyielding granite as they looked down at us.

Victor stood at the podium to my right, his graying hair slicked back, his designer suit completely spotless despite the storm breaking over our heads.

“Members of the council,” Victor beg

Lucas’s POVThe basin on the wooden nightstand was filled with warm water, throwing soft, flickering reflections across the bedroom ceiling. I dipped a small white cloth into the water, wringing it out slowly while my eyes remained fixed on Amelia’s face. She sat on the edge of the mattress in her dark green dress, her shoulders slumping as the last lingering traces of adrenaline drained from her limbs. A faint red bruise was already turning purple along her jawline where Ronan had grabbed her throat and three shallow scratches lined her wrist.“Hold still,” I murmured, sitting down beside her on the bed and bringing the warm cloth gently against her cheek.Amelia winced slightly, her breath catching in her throat before she leaned her face into my hand, letting out a long, shuddering exhale. “I am fine, Lucas. They are just scratches.”“They aren’t just scratches to me,” I replied, my voice dropping into a rough rasp as my thumb traced the soft skin near her temple. The quiet of the

  • Dying Was Easier Than Loving Him   Chapter 50

Damien’s POVThe stone holding cell beneath the mountain was cold, smelling of damp iron and bitter ash. I stood outside the reinforced door, adjusting my leather wrist guards while two guards stood at rigid attention beside the heavy latch.Upstairs in the courtyard, the mood had shifted from wild panic to hard-won relief. Our warriors were tending to minor cuts, sweeping away burnt debris and raising victory toasts across the stone amphitheater. We had repelled Ronan’s assault, secured the perimeter and proved to every doubting elder that the Ashford line could hold the valley without Victor’s cruelty. My first real trial as Alpha had ended in victory, yet a cold knot remained twisted in my gut.“Open the door,” I commanded, stepping past the guards into the dim cell.Ronan hung from the wall, his thick wrists secured by heavy silver chains that burned faint red lines into his skin. His face was covered in dark bruises and dried blood, but his yellow eyes remained sharp as they tra

Amelia's POVThe silver needle dug sharp against the skin of my throat, sending a jolt of cold terror straight down my spine. Ronan’s thick arm felt like an iron bar crushed against my airway, his foul, sour breath hot against my ear as my wrist throbbed in his bone-crushing grip.“You think you are just a lucky stray, little girl?” Ronan snarled in my ear, his rough voice raspy and cruel. “You think that rare wolf blood of yours was an accident? My employer didn’t spend four years paying off doctors to monitor your symptoms just to watch you die in a dirt clearing!”My mind reeled, my head spinning as his words hit me like a physical blow. 'Paying off doctors?' The endless blood tests, the terrifying diagnosis, the isolated life in Silverpine... it wasn’t a series of unfortunate events. It was a harvest. Someone had been watching me, cultivating me, waiting for my wolf to wake up.Before I could even process the horror twisting inside my chest, a massive gray form hurled through the

  • Dying Was Easier Than Loving Him   Chapter 48

Damien's POVThe scream tore through the music like a rusty blade, instantly shattering the laughter near the eastern bonfires. Before the drums could even stop, dark shapes erupted from the shadow of the pine trees, throwing red smoke canisters directly into the middle of the dancing crowd. Coughing shifters scattered in every direction as the acrid cloud rolled over the grass, blinding the inner circle guards while masked fighters rushed out from the trees with drawn blades. They hadn't crossed the river at dusk. They had been lying in the bushes inside our own perimeter since the daylight setup, waiting quietly for the torches to burn low.“Form the wall!” I roared, the raw power of the Alpha frequency booming out of my chest with a force that shook my own lungs. “Captains to the front! Guard the elders!”Instinct took over, wiping away every trace of hesitation. Years of standing behind Victor, watching him command troops during border skirmishes, finally locked into place when m

Amelia 47-49CHAPTER 47: The Moon GatheringAmelia's POVI woke up before the alarm went off, stretching my arms over the soft cotton sheets while the early morning sunlight slanted through the window. The restless, itchy heat that used to burn beneath my skin was completely gone, replaced by a quiet, steady rhythm humming right alongside my heartbeat.I looked down at Lucas, who was still asleep beside me with his dark hair messy across the pillow and his arm locked securely around my waist. I reached out, my fingers lightly tracing the broad line of his jaw and felt a tiny, warm flutter answer me from deep inside my chest... our new bond pulsing soft and clear.“You are hovering, wife,” Lucas muttered without opening his eyes, a faint, sleepy smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.“I am admiring my view,” I retorted, leaning down to press a quick kiss against his nose. “And you aren’t supposed to be able to feel me hovering yet.”“I can feel everything you do now,” Lucas chuckled

  • Dying Was Easier Than Loving Him   Chapter 46

Lucas's POVThe small stone chapel sitting high on the eastern ridge was quiet, bathed in the soft orange glow of three burning iron braziers. I stood near the plain wooden altar, adjusting the cuffs of my black shirt while my hands trembled slightly against the fabric.I had spent my entire adult life convinced I was built for cold rooms and lonely borders. I was the broken brother, the weapon Victor forged in the dark, the man who had buried his first partner because he was too reckless to check a perimeter. Yet here I stood, waiting to link my blood and soul to the woman who had walked into my life and dismantled every wall I had built. The heavy door creaked open, pulling my attention to the back of the small room.Damien and Serena stepped inside first, keeping their movements quiet and respectful. There were no politicians here tonight, no scheming council elders and no grand pack banners hanging from the rafters. Damien had arranged this private gathering himself, clearing the
