By the time I opened my eyes again, I was already floating in mid-air.

I watched the doctors in the emergency room scrambling around me, trying to keep me alive.

Meanwhile, Camelia clutched at her belly as she sobbed ceaselessly. Alessio's expression had turned extremely dark.

He said sternly to the director, "Get all your best doctors here."

The director hesitated for a moment. "Don Albini, there's another patient in critical condition in the ER who's still undergoing resuscitation. Several attending physicians are handling the case. If we pull them all away now—"

Before he could finish speaking, Alessio cut him off. "I don't care. I have to make sure that Camelia and her child are absolutely safe."

Alessio was the Don of the Albini family. No one dared disobey him.

Soon, all the specialists who were stationed in the emergency room left.

Only two young doctors remained in the emergency room, and one of them was just an intern.

I remained floating in mid-air as I quietly watched it all unfold. I suddenly found it a little absurd.

When I was on the verge of death, Alessio used his influence to pull away all the doctors who could have saved me.

In the emergency room, the young doctor was sweating profusely. "Her blood pressure is still dropping. Her condition is getting worse!"

The intern's face had turned pale. "What do we do? Dr. Marconi and the others are all taken off the case…"

No one answered, because everyone already knew the answer.

Finally, the fluctuating line on the monitor went flat.

The young doctor slowly lowered the defibrillator and said in a hoarse voice, "Time of death, 10:47 pm."

I looked down at my own corpse, finally realizing that this was the end for me.

Several nurses silently draped the white sheet over me.

Someone let out a faint sigh. "What a pity. If an attending physician were around, she might still have a chance…"

I floated in mid-air, bewildered. I had no idea what to do, but soon, I was whisked away to another ward.

In the ward, Camelia was sitting on the hospital bed.

The doctor examined her for a long while, but in the end, he just said with exasperation, "Don Albini, Ms. Germani and the child are fine. She was probably just startled."

Alessio finally relaxed.

Just then, his phone rang. My number was displayed on the screen.

Alessio hesitated for a moment before answering the call and putting it on speakerphone.

The intern's voice echoed in the quiet ward. "Hello, the owner of this phone has just been declared dead after unsuccessful resuscitation. Your number was listed as the only emergency contact.

"Please come to the hospital as soon as possible to identify the body and complete the necessary procedures."

Alessio froze. "What did you just say?"

Just then, Camelia's eyes reddened as she said with a sigh, "How could Estella do this? She's already caused a scene several times today just to stop our wedding.

"First, it's the cancer report, and now, she managed to get someone to spread news like that. I know she's upset, but she shouldn't joke about death like that. She was perfectly fine when she pushed me just now…"

Alessio's expression turned cold, and he said harshly over the phone, "Tell Estella that I've had enough of her tricks! If she thinks I'll change my mind just because she had someone impersonate a doctor and claim she's dead, she's wrong!

"Since she loves messing around so much, she can do it all she wants! From now on, don't even bother contacting me about her."

He hung up and turned off his phone. By the looks of it, he was going to ignore me for a few days to teach me a lesson.

The intern was stunned. He tried to call again, but the calls wouldn't go through anymore. He checked the contact list for other numbers he could call, but he realized that aside from Alessio, there were no other contacts saved.

Indeed, in Napolis, I had no family aside from Alessio.

But now, even Alessio had abandoned me.

Unable to get in contact with anyone else, the intern had no choice but to make a note in the documents—"Body unclaimed".

My body was placed in the innermost compartment of the morgue.

No one knew that I was dead.

No one was aware that I was lying all alone in the morgue, waiting to decompose.
