Lexie’s POV

When dawn began to break, I got up; I couldn't lie in bed any longer. I got ready for work, looked at my purse with that shawl tied in a bow on it - it looked so beautiful that I decided to leave it on. I left a note for Manu letting her know I'd already left and headed to work. I wanted to be alone a little longer; I didn't want to hear stories about how great the dinner with friends had been. Did that make me a bad person? Maybe, but I was giving myself that right - to be mean and hurt.

I took the subway to the office and sat in that little café across the street. It was just opening when I arrived, and it was still too early to go to the office. I sat down, ordered a coffee, and watched the street traffic, which was still light.

At seven-thirty, I went to the office. It was still early, and no one should have arrived yet. I went straight to my desk - I would write an email to Patrick explaining why I should resign and saying I would stay until he found someone to replace
