Chapter 4
MAYA’S POV My eyes slowly fluttered, but everything around me seemed blurry. My vision lacked clarity, and I struggled to lift my limbs. I turned my head to the side and I noticed a figure standing beside me. He seemed to be in a white dress. He looked tall and he had a pair of glasses on his face. “Where… am… I?” I uttered, hoping to communicate with the man. He seemed to notice my slight disorientation, courtesy of just regaining consciousness. “You must be Ms. Maya…” he said with a calm and hoarse voice, making me know that he was a bit of an old man. I tried sitting up but he held me back down, “There’s no need to trouble yourself. You should rest some more.” “What happened to me?” I asked, trying to recall the last thing that happened to me, “I was… practicing and I… collapsed.” I recalled. At the same time, I began to regain my visual clarity and I could now see the intricate details of the doctor’s face. Not just that, but I noticed that I was in an hospital ward and I noticed a drip-stand right by my bed. Seeing all this, I couldn’t help but look at the doctor, and he seemed to know what I had in mind. “Don’t worry, Ms. Maya. You simply collapsed due to high stress. After all, given your condition, you shouldn’t be overdoing yourself.” he advised, but this only confused me even more. “My condition?” I questioned, but upon remembering my father’s condition, I became frightened and my eyes widened as I frantically began to ask more questions, “Am I sick? Do I have a terminal illness?!” To my surprise, the doctor laughed and shook his head. “No, dear. It’s nothing like that. I’m quite surprised that you didn’t know.” he claimed and I raised a brow. What could he possibly be talking about. “What do you mean? What’s going on?” I questioned. “You’re one month pregnant, Ms. Maya. However, due to you overworking yourself during this period, it has taken a toll on your body and made you collapse two days ago, the way you did. It was your friend at work that brought you here.” he explained with a smile. However, unknowing to him, the news he had just revealed to me was like a huge bombshell dropped on my head. “What?!” I uttered but the doctor thought I was too overjoyed that I was dumbfounded. “You’re pregnant, Ms. Maya.” he repeated. However little did he know that I felt like my entire world was crashing down on me. ‘What… what is going on?’ I asked myself, as the first thing that ran through my mind was who the father was. Unfortunately, I couldn’t think of anyone. Even though I worked in a club as a stripper, it wasn’t every customer that got to have sex with me. And those who did always used protection. To avoid any mistakes, I made sure to even use pills. So how was it possible? I couldn’t fathom it. Since I couldn’t find an answer to that, I began to wonder how I would take care of a child whom the father I didn’t know about yet. This was all too much for me, I wasn’t ready. “Anyways, you’ll need to rest for a two more days before discharging you. All you just need is rest.” he claimed before leaving the ward. I was utterly speechless as I stared straight to the ceiling, tears streaming down my eyes. ‘What do I do now?’ I wondered. ******************* LEO’S POV It has been a month since what happened at the club. I asked my men to conduct a search and probe her origins, but there was simply too little about her to work with. A simple alias wasn’t enough, and she wore a mask again, making her hard to recognize. I would often go to the club but I either wouldn’t meet her there, or wouldn’t get the opportunity to have a conversation with her. I stood before the large window panes of my company’s top floor. Staring out the city while my mind went through my pack’s affairs and my company’s affairs. Meanwhile, I was still bothered about being unable to get that girl. ‘This is infuriating.’ I thought to myself and I tightened my grip on the whiskey cup in my hands. Cracks began to appear on it and it was getting close to shattering. Suddenly, a knock on the door made me stop and I sighed. “Come in.” I permitted and I heard the door open. “Mr. Leo…” I heard Fred’s voice greeting me, but I didn’t bother turning towards him. I was still a bit annoyed at the fact that my search were yielding no results. “What is it, Fred?” I asked. “Sir, I bring good news.” he claimed and my interest was piqued. I turned to him with a raised brow and he elaborated more, “We have discovered the identity of the Lady you were so curious about.” Upon saying those words, my heart skipped and for the first time in a very long time, I was filled with excitement. However, I found it too hard to believe, as this was a huge shock to me. “What did you say? Are you sure about what you’re saying?” I growled. If this turned out to be a joke or probably a mistake, a mere apology wouldn’t be enough to satiate my anger. However, Fred shook his head with a smile and walked towards me. “I wouldn’t dare to lie to you, sir. See for yourself and help us confirm it.” he assured before handing me a file. I dropped my whisky cup and took the file off his hands. I opened the file and I began to see everything about her. ‘Name: Maya Rodriguez. Date of birth: October 15, 1994. Female…” I saw this in the copy of her ID, which was in the file, coupled with numerous pictures of her walking on the streets. I also learned that the club wasn’t the only place she worked at, but also a restaurant. Her home address was also on the file and I noted that before taking out her picture and staring at it. I began to recall the scene from that night and looking at her picture, I couldn’t help but feel that she was the lady I’d been searching for this past one month. “Good job, Fred. You’ve done well.” I commended and the latter returned a soft smile and nodded. “It’s my pleasure, sir.” he said. I dropped the file on my desk, before putting the picture in my suit pocket. Fred suddenly questioned, “What are you going to do about her now?” “Hmm, leave that to me. In the meantime, is there anything about the pack I’d like to be made aware of?” I asked and he nodded. “Well, the council members are currently holding their tongue. Those conspiring are yet to make a move yet. Nevertheless, my men and I are ready for anything.” he claimed and I sat on my desk. A smile appearing across my face. “Good. I’d like to prevent a coup if possible, and this girl is going to be the key to that.” I replied as I had a clear plan in mind. Meanwhile, catching wind of what I had in mind, Fred was taken aback. “Wait… don’t tell me…” he said and I nodded. “It’s exactly what you think.” I replied before taking a deep breath, “I’m going to make her my Luna!”Chapter 39Maya POV.I slip into the staff uniform, the fabric crisp against my skin. It’s been a while since I last wore it, but the motions come back to me as though I never left. There’s a strange comfort in the routine—the way the apron ties around my waist, the weight of the tray in my hands. Working again is a risk, especially since Leo has no idea. But I need to reclaim a part of myself, even if it’s done quietly, away from his watchful eyes. The mornings are the easiest. Leo leaves for work early, his sharp suits and determined stride carrying him away from the estate while I begin my duties. I make sure to time everything perfectly so our paths don’t cross. The last thing I want is for him to find out I’ve returned to work behind his back. It’s not long before the house begins to hum with activity. The clatter of pots in the kitchen, the low murmur of voices, and the distant sound of Courtney’s sharp laughter echo through the halls. Her presence is like a shadow, lingering ju
Chapter 38: Maya. The day of the party arrives like a storm—fast, loud, and impossible to ignore. I stand near the large kitchen doorway, watching as people buzz around the estate like frantic bees. Servants rush past with trays of food, clinking glasses, and floral decorations that seem far too grand for what should just be another celebration. I pull my shawl tighter around me, feeling smaller with every passing minute. These kinds of gatherings, with their shimmering gowns, confident laughter, and overindulgence, are not my world. I feel like an intruder. A shadow among the light. The grand hall transforms into something unrecognizable, filled with chandeliers that glitter like a thousand stars. The air carries the thick scent of roasted meat and expensive perfume, a suffocating mix that settles in my throat. I move quietly, keeping to the edges, where no one will notice me. Today, Alpha Leo’s pack will celebrate some political milestone—one I didn’t ask about. One I don’t belon
Chapter 37. Leo's POV I don’t know how much longer I can endure this. Courtney's voice grates against my ears like nails scraping against glass. She’s been at it for hours—complaining, arguing, pushing her way into a place she doesn’t belong. My room. My sanctuary. “I’ve always shared this space with you before,” she huffs, standing at the edge of my bed with her arms crossed. The light from the lamp softens her sharp features, but I see the stubborn set of her jaw. “Why should tonight be any different?” Because you’re not my mate, I think bitterly. Because the very thought of you here now makes me want to tear through the walls just to escape. “I’m not sharing my bed, Courtney,” I say, my voice cold and measured. I’ve repeated myself three times already, yet she doesn’t let up. “Why not?” she challenges, tilting her chin up. “I’ve always been here for you. I’ve done everything for you! I’ve stood by your side when no one else did—” “And I’ve given you my gratitude for
Chapter 36: Maya POV. I do my best to make myself invisible in this house. It's a survival tactic I've perfected since arriving here—move quietly, avoid eye contact, stick to the shadows. The mansion is vast, its hallways endless, and its silence oppressive. I’ve memorized the routes to the few places I need to go: the garden for my short, doctor-ordered walks, the kitchen for a glass of water when no one else is around, and back to my room, my solitary refuge. It’s easier this way, avoiding people. Avoiding her. Courtney’s presence is everywhere, even when she isn’t. It’s in the way the staff glance at me when I pass, the way my footsteps echo too loudly in the hallways, the way the air feels charged whenever I step out of my room. I know she doesn’t want me here. The feeling is mutual. After my walk today, I head straight to the shower. The hot water runs over me, washing away the tension in my muscles. I stay under the stream longer than I should, letting the heat soothe the ac
CHAPTER 35 LEO Anybody could smell the festivity in the air. The Packhouse was crammed with a lot of activities as servants and maids went around preparing every single corner of the Packhouse for the party tonight. It had been a very long time since a celebration of this sort happened here. As I made my way down to the courtyard, I could smell the polished woods fresh scent of flowers that were being chopped and decorated. It felt like chaos, but the kind that was meant to make things better. It was controlled, but chaos nonetheless. I had a lot of things to do so I needed to shift the work to someone else. As soon as I was ready to have the information disseminated, I called for everyone and asked them to gather in the main hall. How was the only place that could contain every single servant here. They filed in quietly, knowing better than to waste time because a lot of things still needed to be done. Claudia was standing beside me and there was a slight
CHAPTER 34 LEOWhen I walked into the courtroom the next morning, it was packed and I knew it was because of my announcement yesterday. I'd solved the problem that bugged them the most, but you could never just satisfy the council. The tension in the air was so thick you could slice it with a knife and every eye seemed to be watching. I was standing there, dressed in a dark suit with my jaw clenched. Silas was sitting across the room with his lawyers and he looked so hard and cold. I'd put him off many times, and I suspected that this day was going to come. I always knew he wouldn't go down without a fight, even when the answer was staring at him in the face. There was nothing he was going to do to get what he wanted, yet he still went after it. Once the judge entered, we all stood. I had only been to court once, and it had my heart pounding even though I knew I was going to win this. The hearing for the will contest soon started with both sides taking turns
