CHAPTER SEVEN

The ice in my drink slowly melted, and my patience ran thin. My eyes darted towards the entrance of the café and I sighed. Ridley was messing with me and if I did not need him as much, I would have left when five minutes had passed our agreed meeting time. I looked down at my watch and groaned, more than twenty-five minutes…I had been waiting for more than twenty-five minutes. That was unacceptable, no matter how much I needed his help, I did not appreciate looking desperate or li

Emmett woke up a day after we had arrived. Ridley had refused to leave his side the entire time, and when his father woke up, he was by the bedside. After I realised that he would not budge, I decided to go back home, take a shower and bring him home-cooked food. Surprisingly, Emmett was awake by the time I returned to the hospital. Good enough, I had packed enough food for two in the tupperware.Ridley remained at his father's side, and shockingly enough, they were even chatting. Light conversation filled the room when I had walked in. I had never seen Emmett look so happy. It looked like he could not believe that he was having a moment with his son that did not consist of yelling and insults. Ridley, on the other hand, acted like it was any other day and his relationship with his father had always been okay."I brought food!" I raised the bag with food after they had both greeted me. "I know the hospital food is okay, but this is even better," I told them as I started setting down t

Ridley practically jumped out of the car just as I parked it. Hurriedly, I unbuckled my seatbelt, grabbed my purse and followed him. I tried my best to keep up with him, but he was speed-walking into the hospital and bumping into people without acknowledging them. "Sorry. Sorry" I apologised to the people he bumped into, following his trail.I could hardly keep up by the time we reached the reception. "Emmett Stetson...where is his room?" He asked the male nurse behind the desk. He looked up at him. "Relation?" He asked curtly."Son," Ridley replied with annoyance lacing his tone. "Ridley Stetson, I'm his son." He added."Third floor, room 309." The nurse said and went back to looking at the patient records on his desk. It was another chase game for me as Ridley walked to the elevator with hastened steps, and I got into the elevator after him. The elevator ride was silent. I wanted to say something, tell him not to worry and that his father would be okay, but I could see from his d

I kept opening the offers from multiple hotels, switching from one email to another and reading through their offers and requirements. I was honestly at my wits' end with which one to go with. All the offers were great, but I could not make up my mind and pick one. Ridley peeked over at me for a second. "Still haven't made your decision?" He asked, his eyes solely on the road, and I shook my head."I don't know which one is the best..." I paused and looked over at him. "...they are all great offers, but I can't seem to make my mind up," I told him truthfully.Ridley's hand reached out for mine while the other one remained on the wheel. "There's no pressure, you still have time to make a decision, and even if you decide on none of them, you can always come back and be my secretary."I rolled my eyes but smiled. "Shut up, I did not quit my job to be your secretary." He shrugged, all while his eyes were on the road. "Well, it was worth a try." He took another turn, joining another road

  • ENTANGLED BETWEEN BROTHERS   THIRTY-SEVEN: HOME

Three weeks had gone by since I quit my job. The days seemed to drag on, meshing into one with nothing to keep me busy. I spent most of my days indoors, but would venture out into the world when the boredom got to me. Other than that, I was scrolling on my phone or sprawled out on the couch watching another old sitcom. Despite being bored out of my mind, I was glad for my time off, I actually needed it more than I thought. I did not have to worry about meeting any deadlines, completing reports, reporting to superiors or meeting my ex-husband in the elevators of the Stetson building. I did miss working with Lisa as well as driving to work with Ridley and seeing him. I did not like only seeing him at the end of the day, tired and drained from the day's work. Sometimes I got to see him before he left in the morning, but usually I was so fast asleep that I would not hear him getting ready and would wake up after he had already left. My body straightened up when I heard the door open and

"It feels like yesterday when I was helping you move in here." I smiled at Lisa from the boxes I was loading. She looked down at the box she was packing with a morose expression, and I bit on my top lip. She was taking this harder than I had expected. We had formed a kind of friendship, and I knew that she would be sad, but I did not account for the fact that she would be very very sad. A few weeks had passed since the soiree, and after a lot of thought, a few conversations with Harris and Lou, and an argument with Ridley, I decided to resign from Stetson Hotel and find new prospects. Lou was right, slowly but surely, working there was becoming more of a headache, and it was more draining to meet Ashton or his mother anywhere. Working with Ridley was one of the few, if not the biggest positive of working there. That, plus the paycheck. Harris did not seem too shocked about it when I asked for his opinion, Lou was behind my decision the entire time, but Ridley did not take it too we

Ridley hissed when I dabbed a cotton ball drenched with antiseptic on his cheek. I muttered a soft 'sorry' before continuing. After his father ordered both brothers to leave, Ridley and I went back to our apartment, but not before stopping at a convenience store to get an ice pack for his swelling face. Ashton had landed a few harsh blows on his face."Isn't this funny?" Ridley spoke just as I moved down to his split lip. I drew back a bit with a questioning look. "If Ashton had not messed up, he'd be the one you're tending to so carefully." His voice was distant, and if I had not paid attention, I would not have noticed his clenched fists at his sides. My movements stopped, and I backed away to look at his face properly. His eyebrows were scrunched up into a frown, his lips in a thin line, and his face battered. He looked like an angry kid, but despite how much I wanted to tease him, I knew that the night had taken a toll on him...hell, even I was pissed. I got an adhesive bandage an

CHAPTER FIFTEENI probably forgot to mention that Maria was a very dramatic woman and that her son always hid behind her skirt.
