CHAPTER 22

JENNA’S POV

I never for once thought about seeing him again. Not today, not even in a million years.

But I was wrong, he was here, standing right before my eyes.

God! He looked different now, he didn’t have that stubby little goatee, but a full beard now.

His eyes…..they were the same—warm, green and captivating.

A very familiar gaze I never thought I’d see again.

He had always been handsome, but now the years far spent could be told on his face. He looked more like a man now.

Not the person who I’d walked out on without a word, goodbye, nor a reason for my disappearance.

Instantly the guilt returned.

The way he was staring at me now, was just as he did after I’d rejected him.

The look of despair.

For a moment I almost forgot how easy it was to breathe.

My heart, pounding roughly against my chest.

Part of me wanted to run again, but that wasn’t possible.

There was no place to hide this time.

“Elijah?” I said shakily.

CHAPTER 26 ROB’S POV I’d left for the office the moment I served Jenna her breakfast. I knew that wasn’t enough, but that should atleast keep her at bay before I get back. I stood at the edge of the window, staring at cars zoom by, a phone pressed to my ear. “Hello.” The investigator’s voice came through. I’d hired a private investigator after the incident with Elijah. He was too much of a competition to just let roam around and destroy my marriage silently. I had to bring him down. “We’ve got something. It’s not solid yet, but it gives us a head start.” He continued. My pupils dilated right after he landed those few words. “What did you find?” “Rumors of abuse on his ex-wife—mostly physical, maybe emotional. There was no police report on it, and all we found was a sealed agreement right after the divorce. We think he paid her for her silence.” My fingers curled into a fist. This wasn’t enough. “I need solid proof, not rumors.” I muttered. “Cu

CHAPTER 25 JENNA’S POV I had stayed up all night thinking about what had happened. I was so angry at Rob, I’d planned to leave the house temporarily. When I woke up, I hadn’t expected anything else than the usual silence I always found my self in. But then, the continual clanking of ceramics caused my eyes to jolt open fully, while my nose traced the scent of coffee to where Rob stood. Rob? What was he doing here? He was standing by the doorway, with a tray on his hand and an apron tied to his neck. “Breakfast for the lady” he said, as he walked up to set it down on the small table beside me. Does he think this would make me forget about last night? Hmph. I scoffed at the back of my mind. “You didn’t have to.” I said, flatly, as I eyed the plate of eggs and pancakes. My stomach rumbled in hunger immediately. Damn! A smile formed on his lips. “But your stomach says otherwise” One part of me found this gesture thoughtful, but the other felt it was j

CHAPTER 24 JENNA’S POV Soft classical music blended seamlessly with the low murmur of conversations just as I stepped into the art gallery. Beautiful paintings hung in a line along the white painted walls which contrasted elegantly with the environment, The air lingered with fresh paint, and what smelt like a hint of roses. I turned scanning the room, my eyes darting between sculptures and different paintings until they landed on him. Elijah. He had invited me over the phone, it was a late invite, but after much pondering I decided to go. He currently stood in the middle of the gallery with a glass of champagne in one hand, while he talked to some people dressed in elegant suits and dresses. He hadn’t noticed me yet. He seemed to be guiding them. They moved from one canvas to the other, quietly murmuring as they stared. Rob stood by me, a grim look plastered on his face. He adamantly insisted on following me, when I informed him of the invite from E

CHAPTER 23 JENNA’S POV I walked into the house still deep in thought as I nearly acknowledged Rob when I passed him in the hallway. “ Can we talk?” His voice, low and soft. I said nothing, walking past him. He followed me to the room. “Jenna, please. You’ve been cold since we got back from the trip” his tone laced with desperation. “Look we can work this out—“ “Stop” I cut in. “Let’s stop pretending this marriage will blossom with time. Whatever this was…..it’s not working.” “If you just listen to me, we can save this before it even fails.” He pushed. I shook my head slowly. “No, Rob. Whatever it is you’re trying to do,Just give it up.” I turned, finally facing him. “I’m sick of you trying to please my grandfather.” He stood there stunned. ROB’S POV The way she looked at me— it was anger. Her mind was made up. But I couldn’t let it happen. I couldn’t lose her now. How long had she been thinking about this? This is bad. She wouldn’t even listen

  • ESCAPING THE BILLIONAIRE TO MARRY HIM   Primrose

CHAPTER 21 JENNA’S POV After coming back from shopping, I tossed away the shopping bags, and kicked off my sandals into a corner before collapsing on the bed. The room was empty so I deduced Rob had gone out. I felt the need to call, but I was way too exhausted to reach for my phone. My feets were sore from wearing my sandals that long, and my arms still felt the heavy sensation from the shopping bags. I laid still on the bed, my eyes staring at nothing in particular. I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about what Isabelle had told me earlier. Which only made more sense to me now that I thought about it. I decided to take a warm bath to cool my head and my aching body after which I felt a bit at ease. Just immediately, I collapsed back to the bed, my eyes heavy with sleep as I began to drift away. Then a soft knock at the door startled me awake. “Room service.” A husky voice said. I groaned and stretched. “Not now” I muttered to myself. I got u
