ISABELLA’S POV

I can’t tell how long had passed. Every bit of will had started to seep from me for the hours that passed. My throat was so parched to the point that I could drink my pee.

Would that be bad? My stomach was rumbling too. Damn! I should have eaten the rice when I had the chance.

Finally, the door burst open with a kick, and I looked up dreamily, hoping it was food.

“Step out bitches. Time for some exercise.” The hefty man with the bushy brown beard spoke before five men walked in, pulling each by the arm and shoving us out the door.

I dragged my feet weakly as they led us, wiping those who slowed us down. I was so weak, and I knew this wasn't going to be easy.

I mean ditching them and finding my best friend. I had to think fast. We had to find a way to leave before being sold. A bright idea popped into my head, and I put my feet forward, causing the lady before me to trip. She crashed into someone, then another and soon, some were on the floor. The men got so pissed,

A heat spread through me, the type that would cling to your skin like a tattoo. But deep down, I knew it wasn't Florida, it was her—my wife.In seconds, I was dashing out of the car and straight to the porch.I rattled the handle of Mireille’s house because my dear wife had managed to buy the house off. After all, I understood that she wanted to keep Mireille’s memories. But it was locked, and almost stiff. My heart picked up a beat as it dawned on me that she wasn't there. My wife.Something tightened in my chest. The last place would be her house. So why was I standing outside for minutes to find a short man beside a car? “Who are you and why are you standing outside my wife’s home?” I questioned and watched him straighten himself, his phone in his right hand. There was something about the way his eyes darted and the way he lowered his head.“I—” He looked away again. “I can't find Miss.”The second the words dropped from his lips, my legs lost balance by a few inches.“What d

ALARIC’S POVOne minute I could tell where she was, the second her location was stagnant, yet she wasn’t picking too. My heart was hammering so fast against my chest because somehow I felt like something was wrong. It showed a restaurant that she didn’t tell me she was going to. My phone rang as I paced up and down the airport and my eyes quickly darted to my screen, yet it wasn’t Isabella. It was Zuri.“Yes!” I grunted.“Sir, the client—“I squeezed my eyes shut when it dawned on me that I had forgotten to tell her to cancel all plans.“I’m out of town. I will let you know when I get back.” I informed and immediately hung up. Deep down I had a gut feeling that something was deeply wrong. Isabella would never ignore my call. “I’m afraid that due to the current weather, there might be a delay in the flights.” The high pitched voice rang through the speakers causing me to mumble a fucking curse. Running my fingers through my hair, I dialed her number again and when it went off with

THIRD PERSON’S POVIsabella’s meeting was over, even though through most of it her thoughts kept drifting back to the hallucination from earlier. She had sent a message to her man about it, but he wasn't online, and she didn't deem it serious enough to reach out to Zuri. Her phone was in her brown bag behind her, her palms on her laps as she watched Rex walk out of the meeting room with Mr Levi and Mrs Calista—the well-known tycoons in the art industry. Meeting them was a massive privilege that Isabella’s old self would have never believed would happen to her. Nervousness struck a chord in her as she fiddled with her fingers. She had tendered her opinion on how the biggest Art Sales should be done, and now all that was left was to confirm if they loved it.What if they don’t?The voice in her head reminded her, making fear dig its claw in her bones, imprinting them for a while before she regained her positivity. Finally, after her heart beat a million times in a few minutes, the gl

  • EX-HUSBAND’S LAST CHANCE AT LOVE   CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED

ISABELLA’S POVThree days had passed since we talked our differences out, and two days since he escorted me to the airport and wouldn't let me out of his embrace until they announced my flight’s near departure. I could still remember his face, and his sad expression. Ever since I got to Florida, he has called me a million times and texted me even while I was asleep. My eyes moved over his last few texts from 2am to 4 am, and a smile tilted my lips.“I can’t sleep. The house feels empty without you.” The first one read.“How is it over there? Is the bed comfortable, or do you need a new one?”This new bed came with the new apartment the company planned for me. “Does your tummy hurt? Do you feel weak? Morning sickness?”I couldn’t help but wonder how he knew about all those things, but it made my heart warm.“Is there anything you need?” This was the last message.A sigh slipped past my lips as my fingers moved over the keypad.“No, babe. I’m fine, and I have everything I need.” I cli

ALARIC’S POV“The street became my home.” A smile tugged the tips of my lips. “I made friends and foes. They were mostly kids my age and younger. We lived with love. Smiling as though we had no problem. Eating from the dustbin. The gutters. Sometimes, some store owners were kind enough to leave food for us outside their doors even though we were never let in.” Another breath, and she squeezed my palm again.“Her name was Ingrid. She was nine, her parents died, and she was abandoned by her greedy uncle, who took all her parents' properties and left her to rot out in the street. She had a health condition that required so much money and drugs. She was innocent, Is. Kind, and she loved to paint things and our faces, too. She was the youngest in our circle of four. Our sister. And she liked me the most.”Ingrid’s face flashed in my head. Her two front teeth broke anytime she attempted to smile, the way her orange eyes shone. Her fingers clutched onto the pack of the fractured crayons she

ALARIC’S POVHer voice rang in my head.Even downing this glass of alcohol over and over again to curb the memories that swarmed my head did nothing to help. It was too raw. Felt too real. Too now.I could remember her scream…her yell…I could still feel her cold body against my skin. The memory I had never tried digging out naturally came to me.Gulping down another cup, I let it sting the back of my throat, my eyes were still as clear as snow. No matter how hard I drank, my body refused it as though it wanted me to experience this ripping pain in my chest. My chest tightened, causing my breathing to be sloppy. ‘You are just like your Father’The voice in my head said, and I wrapped my fingers around the glass tightly, my jaw clenched. I knew that had to be a lie. I was nothing like that monster.‘You are the son of your Father after all’The voice said again. This time, Isabella’s face flashed in my head. The pain in her eyes. The way she had held onto her stomach all through. Th
