ISABELLA’S POV

I pulled my eyes apart, my head aching as my hazy vision slowly fell into place. I let out a soft hmm the moment I registered my room. Then my eyes landed on him.

Alaric. He was sitting on a chair beside me, holding my hand, and the memories came rushing in. The building collapsed, and that was the reason we went to the party.

I sat up in a jiffy, causing a wave of weakness to hit me hard.

“Easy.” He let out, his eyes warm and his voice tender.

Yet underneath that, sat the dark circles under his eyes, a proof that he had emotions he was desperately dealing with.

I could tell.

“Did we get them? The truth, babe. Did we get the truth?” I let out in a breath and dragged in another.

He was quiet for a while. “No.” He responded, and I gasped. “But I will sort it out.”

“This is all my fault. I shouldn't have stayed to talk to Valeria. I should have known she was of no good. Now, you will…” My voice cracked as it dawned on me.

He would go to jail. I had failed a simple task.

THIRD PERSON’S POVA ringtone sliced through his deep sleep making his groan. His hands rambled over the sheet, the tone was near yet he found nothing until he forced himself up. His eyes ached with intensity, and his skin was caressed by the cool breeze. He had slept off mid tears, and worse, his head against the edge of the bed, while the rest of his body was crouched on the floor. He felt something underneath his knee and stretched to put it out. His phone.Alexander. The name flashed in his vision. Clearing his throat to hide all forms of emotions, he placed it against his ear.“I’m sorry I couldn't make it. I had…something came up. How is my wife?” Alaric let out, scared to tell them what exactly it was that happened. Isabella was no longer the girl he had married. She was the daughter of a powerful family now and him, all he had left was his Father’s name. He feared that they might see him as unworthy of her. She could have anyone now. Literally anyone.“It’s fine.” Isabella

ALARIC’S POV This wasn't the development I expected. My fist slammed into the dashboard as my annoyance consumed me. My end game was to drag her with me to my wife and make her plead for a second chance to live. But women like her didn't even deserve a second chance.I wanted nothing more than to slowly torture her in exchange for what she made my woman go through. My phone ringtone sliced through the air causing me to grunt as I pulled it out. An unknown number. My finger hovered over it as I contemplated between answering or ignoring and finally I slid the green button.“Yes.” I breathed out.“Mr Alaric. This is the police.” There was a pause then some sounds underneath. “We found a body, and we need you to come check if it is him.” My heart skipped a beat. A bead of sweat formed over my forehead.“Where?” My voice sounded distant.“Hallyway Bridge.” With that, the call dropped, and in the next minutes, I was steering the wheel with all my strength while my heart continued to bea

ALARIC’S POVMy jaw clenched over and over again as I awaited the door to open. My patience was standing on the edge of an ice, and it was taking all my willpower not to break down the door and have this over with. Finally, it was pulled open to reveal a young lady with dark hair, she looked too young to be the woman I was looking for. Her eyebrow arched a little as her eyes moved over me.“I’m looking for a Tessa Ray,” I announced, her brows furrowed in the middle.“That’s my mom. Is everything okay? Is she expecting you?” I bit on the inside of my mouth, telling myself to control myself from blurting out the type of monster her so-called mother was. “Yes.” I lied, and she stared at me for seconds before shutting the door.Anger rose in me, and I formed my palms into fists. By the time the door opened a few moments later, it was her. I could tell from how similar she looked to the younger one.She had a bright smile on. Her face filled with evidence of aging. Her once black hair w

ISABELLA’S POVThe cool air kissed my face as soon as I was led out of the jet. The blades from it still sending big waves all around. Beneath me was something solid.Floor? Soft palm wrapped around my right hand, and I could immediately tell it was Mother’s. She led me gently towards wherever this was. Deep down not being able to savor in the experience of visiting a new place was heartbreaking. As we proceeded, my nose caught sniff of a smell in the sky. Everywhere reeked of grass.“Where are we?” I asked, then quickly added. “Like right now?”“The field. We are close to the house.”’ I nodded, swallowing the lump of saliva in my throat. From behind me, I could hear Father shouting out an order to someone. “My baby?”“She is fine. She is with her grandfather.” That calmed the stir in me a little. I had no idea of how many minutes it took but I knew I counted my steps all through, as the only way to get my mind off reality. One hundred and twenty steps. One hundred and twenty one

THIRD PERSON’S POVHazel had held Isabella’s hand throughout their walk to where the private jet was. While their grandchild was wrapped in Alexander’s arms. Seeing her about to leave made Alaric’s chest beat so fast. Giving in to his urge, he pulled her close in a tight embrace, sniffing in her smell one more time.“I will miss you.” He whispered, and her heart gave a tiny squeeze as her eyes watered.Saying she was sacred would be an understatement in this case. She was terrified of what being with strangers could do to her. Yes, they were her parents, but she had never stayed with them. What if they changed towards her? Or ship her somewhere far?“Why can't you come with us?” Isabella let out the second they separated.Alaric sent a smile that she couldn't see.“I have something to deal with this weekend, so that I will be there as early as Monday.”She pouted her lips, nodding.“You will be fine.” He added.Fine? She thought. He was supposed to be her eyes. How was she suppose

THIRD PERSON’S POVWas it sane that since her confession Alaric had men out there gathering information on all the women who once worked with The Crawford? Especially those who got married when she was eight. It was barely twenty minutes ago so there was no information yet.Isabella was still in bed with her parents now sitting with her, her mother slowly stroking her hair.“Why didn’t you tell us?” She questioned, her voice almost extinct.Isabella lowered her head. “I didn't want to bother you.” “Nonsense, my child. Nonsense. You are allowed to bother us all our lives.” Alexander cut in, holding her palm in his.Her mother picked up her second palm, now rubbing at it gently.“We have lost you once, Ruby. Please don’t make us go through that again.” Hazel pleaded, the ache in her heart lessening a bit. “We will make sure we hire the best doctor for you. We will do anything.”Isabella’s lips cracked in a smile. There was a big relief within Alaric seeing her face lit up a little wit
