Mag-log in(Travis’s POV)
The morning air still clung to my skin, cool and sharp, as I pushed open the door to my villa after a quick run around the neighborhood. I wasn’t usually a morning person—especially after a night of heavy drinking—but something about this morning had me restless.
Or maybe… someone.
My pace quickened as I headed upstairs. Part of me was curious, part concerned. Mostly, I just wanted to see if she was awake.
Little canary.
I didn’t expect her to stay the night. Honestly, I didn’t expect the night to go the way it did. But it had.
And now… I couldn’t get her out of my damn head.
I reached the bedroom door, nudged it open—and stopped.
The bed was empty.
Her wrinkled dress was gone from the armrest. The scent of her skin lingered in the air, subtle and teasing.
But Adeline? She was gone.
A slow smirk tugged at my lips.
“She ran away,” I murmured, amused. “Cute.”
I leaned against the doorframe for a moment, picturing the way she must’ve crept down the stairs in that too-short dress, probably trying not to step on anyone still unconscious in the living room.
Classic Adeline.
I pulled out my phone, thumbing over the screen for a second before grinning to myself. I had her number—stolen straight from Juan’s phone last night, which he’d stupidly left unattended on the table while disappearing into one of the guest rooms with some redhead in heels.
I opened a new message and typed quickly:
"Running away, little canary?"
Sent.
No response.
I waited.
Still nothing.
Hmm. Playing hard to get, were we?
I tossed my phone onto the bed and headed back downstairs.
The place was a disaster. Empty beer bottles, reeking alpha pheromones, and at least two of my teammates still passed out by the kitchen counter.
Typical.
A muffled curse echoed from one of the bedrooms. Then another, louder this time.
The door flung open, and out stormed Juan—shirtless, hair wild, eyes red and blinking under the morning light.
He nearly slipped on a discarded bra on the floor.
“Where is she?” he barked.
I raised a brow, biting back a grin. “Who?”
“My sister. Adeline,” he growled, “She was with me last night, and now she’s not answering her damn phone.”
I picked up a bottle of water and took a long drink before replying.
“Relax. I dropped her off last night,” I said.
He squinted at me like he didn’t buy it.
“Why the hell would you—? No. You were wasted.”
“Not that wasted.” I set the bottle down and shrugged. “She wanted to go home. I had a car waiting, so I took care of it.”
“Bullshit.”
I tilted my head. “Call her. Ask her yourself.”
Juan cursed again, running a hand down his face.
“Did you—” He stopped himself, eyes narrowing dangerously. “If you touched her, I swear—”
“Dude.” I took a step closer, lowering my voice to a warning. “You left your sister at a party full of horny fucking men. Be grateful she ended up in my care.”
“I trusted you—”
“No, you didn’t,” I smirked, “you warned me. Remember?”
“Then why the hell didn’t you stay away from her?”
I stared at him. “You know damn well that girl is impossible to stay away from.”
“Fuck you!”
Juan looked like he was ready to punch a wall. He turned toward the door, muttering more curses under his breath.
“Hey!” I called out, grabbing his phone off the counter. “You forgot this.”
I tossed it to him.
He caught it mid-air, barely, and glared.
“If I find out you touched her—”
“You’ll kill me,” I said, finishing his sentence with a smirk. “Yeah, yeah. Noted.”
He stormed out without another word.
The door slammed behind him.
I waited until the echo faded before pulling my phone out again.
Still no reply from Adeline.
She’d read it, I was sure of it. But she hadn’t said anything back.
The little Canary that makes me even more intrigued.
She wasn’t just some drunk girl who made a mistake. She knew what she was doing. She looked me in the eye and dared me to cross the line—and when I did, she didn’t flinch.
And now she was hiding?
No, not hiding. Retreating.
Waiting to see if I would chase.
I chuckled, running my thumb along the edge of my phone.
That little canary thought she’d flown away clean.
She didn’t realize, I already had a piece of her.
By noon, I returned from the circuit only because I had received a call from Heather, the caretaker of my villa. He told me that he had found something in one of the rooms on the second floor.
Curiosity got the better of me when he sent a picture of it—it caught my attention immediately. I rushed back without hesitation.
When I arrived, the villa was already spotless, free of the mess we had left behind. It looked as clean as before. Heather stood in the living room, waiting to greet me.
“Where is it?” I asked as I walked toward him.
Heather pulled something from his pocket—a small brown cloth pouch tied with a string. He handed it to me.
“I found it under the bed,” Heather explained.
Inside was a silver bracelet with tiny diamonds embedded in delicate charms, each one centered with a small heart-shaped pendant.
Adeline’s.
It must have slipped off during our wild night together.
A mischievous thought crossed my mind, one that made my pulse quicken. A reason to see her again.
“Thanks, Heather,” I said with a satisfied smile. “Good work.”
“Are you sure it’s all right? The bracelet is broken,” he pointed out.
“Nope,” I replied, my grin widening. “This is even better than I expected.”
Let’s see how she reacts when I show up in front of her with this.
I swear I'll tie her up if she dares to run away from me again. Because I never mess around with my prey.
(Adeline’s POV)Travis finally pulled away from my lips, but his arm remained wrapped around my waist, as if he had no intention of letting me move away. His gaze made my heart pound wildly while my mind struggled to process what had just happened.I had just kissed him.No. He had kissed me. But I had kissed him back, too.Damn it!What the hell was wrong with me?I had come to this bar because I was upset after seeing him with another woman.I should have been angry, demanded an explanation, and walked away. Instead, I was standing right in front of him with my lips still warm from our kiss.Maybe it was the alcohol. Yes, it had to be the alcohol.I'd drunk too much tonight to think clearly. Before I could come up with another excuse to justify my actions, Travis grabbed my hand and pulled me away from the table.“Hey… where are we going?”He didn't answer. His jaw was still clenched as he led me through the crowd, ignoring the curious stares of the other patrons.I struggled to kee
(Travis’s POV)“Travis, are you really not going to spend some time with us?”A woman in an excessively tight black dress rested her hand on my shoulder, followed by the giggles of two other women who had been trying to get my attention for a while. One of them had even deliberately sat so close to me that her thigh almost brushed against my leg.I held my breath, trying to ignore them.Tonight was supposed to be fun. My friends had gathered in the VIP room of my own bar, the drinks were flowing freely, and the music from the floor below was loud enough to drown out any pointless conversations. However, the presence of several women who kept flirting with me was giving me a headache.
(Adeline’s POV)I placed the pink lipstick on the table, only to pick it up again a few seconds later.I had lost count of how many times I had done the same thing since arriving home. That little object shouldn't have meant anything to me, but the longer I stared at it, the more frustration built up in my chest. Was Travis really pursuing another woman besides me? Had he been seeing her even before coming to pick me up?Damn it!I hated the possibilities my own mind kept conjuring up.I didn't even know why I felt entitled to be angry. Travis had never promised to be mine.We weren't dating, we didn't have an official relationship, and we had never even discussed what was actually happening between us. Yet, given the way he treated me, I had already started hoping that there was something different about what we shared. And that hope was what made me feel like an idiot.“Playboy,” I muttered, tossing the lipstick onto the table.Juan had been right. I should have listened to his warn
(Adeline’s POV)I had just walked out of the campus building with Jasmine when she gently nudged my arm.“Look.”I followed her gaze and immediately spotted the familiar black car parked not far from the main entrance.Travis stood beside it, wearing a dark shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His gaze immediately found us, as if he had been waiting for only one person all this time.Me.There was no doubt about it. I was definitely the one he had been waiting for. Especially since he flashed me that subtle, teasing smile of his.Jasmine held back a grin. She clearly knew why Travis was here.Unfortunately, my heart started racing just at the sight of him. I shouldn't have felt this way. I hated feeling nervous, especially when someone's mere presence could make my heart beat so ridiculously fast.“Looks like someone really keeps his promises,” Jasmine remarked.I let out a quiet snort. “I never told him to come.”“But he came anyway. You know, when someone is serious about
(Travis’ POV)I had just gotten into my car when my phone vibrated on the center console. Marcus’s name appeared on the screen. He was the manager in charge of one of my sports bars.I answered the call while starting the engine.“Travis, we need to discuss the construction of the new branch in the West District. The contractor has sent over several revisions, and—”“Reschedule the meeting.”I leaned my head against the headrest for a moment, still thinking about Adeline’s face from a few minutes ago.My jacket was still wrapped around her when she got out of the car. I could even imagine how she had tried to hide her flushed face after I teased her.“To what day?” Marcus asked.“Tomorrow or the day after. Pick a time that works with my schedule.”“Are you sure? They want the final decision this week.”“I said reschedule it.”Marcus fell silent for a few seconds before finally agreeing.I ended the call and placed my phone beside the gearshift. The truth was, I wasn’t short on work. I
(Adeline’s POV)I stood in front of the mirror in Jasmine’s bedroom, staring at my reflection with an uncertain expression. The clothes I was wearing weren’t mine. In fact, I could hardly believe Jasmine actually owned something that, by my standards, could be considered reasonably modest. Most of her wardrobe consisted of low-cut tops, short skirts, or dresses that made me wonder how she could walk around in public without constantly feeling the need to pull the fabric down.“Why does she like these kinds of outfits?”After nearly fifteen minutes of rummaging through her closet, I finally found a black short-sleeved top and a pair of high-waisted jeans. The top still showed a little bit of my neckline, but at least it didn’t make me feel as if I were wearing an outfit that had lost half of its fabric.“This is safe,” I muttered to myself.I fixed my long hair, which had become slightly messy from sleeping, then picked up my bag from the chair.I should have felt relieved that I had m
